Jesus compared His Second Coming to the great flood in the days of Noah. Noah built that ark over a long period of time as he preached to the people (2 Peter 2:5). Yet the people did not listen or even consider that their world was about to end.

37. Matthew 24:37-39. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up until the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.

That is how it will be when the Son of Man appears.
Jesus predicted that His return would not be hidden. He predicted that it would be more like lightning in the east, visible even from the west. The prophet Zechariah describes some of the earth-shattering events that will occur at that time. Then Jesus warned that no one in heaven or on earth could predict when that would happen. He claimed that only the Father was aware of the situation. He provided us with indicators to look for (see yesterday's evening devotion). Nonetheless, he taught that it will come as a surprise to everyone.

Jesus compared His Second Coming to the great flood of Noah's day. Noah spent a long time building the ark while preaching to the people (2 Peter 2:5). However, no one listened or even considered that their world was about to end. They were going about their daily activities. You wouldn't stop eating, drinking, or marrying if you knew the world was about to end.

The final moments would be too valuable. Jesus said they had no idea what would happen until it happened. How could they hear Noah's sermon, see the great boat, and still be in the dark? None are as deafening as those who refuse to see.

Jesus has given us a list of signs to look for. Only the righteous will take them seriously and be ready when they occur. The great ark is Jesus. Only those who believe in Him will be prepared for the impending flood. Let any man who has ears to hear hear (Matthew 11:15). When destruction strikes, the world will be going about its business. Even if the message is preached and the warnings are issued, only those who are willing to listen will hear. Life's cares and pleasures can dull our ears to the truth that is preached to us.

One of the most explicit warnings is to be wary of false prophets and messiahs. He taught them that they would be able to deceive people by performing miraculous signs. He predicted that wars, famines, and earthquakes would continue throughout this age. Then he gives a few details that indicate the last generation has arrived.

There will be a significant increase in evil. This is referred to as apostasy or falling away in other passages. Many people will allow their agape love to cool. Only Christians truly demonstrate agape love. The kingdom will be preached throughout the entire world. The abomination that causes desolation, as described by Daniel, will be set up in the Temple. That implies that the Temple in Jerusalem must be rebuilt first. These are the signs given to us by the Lord. He predicted that this would be the beginning of the world's worst tribulation.

Many times in the years since Jesus' ascension, the church believed Christ's return was imminent, but the signs had not all been fulfilled. We do not need to be concerned about the end of the world until these signs appear, but we should always live in such a way that we are prepared to pass from this life into eternity. Jesus' prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem came true. This age of preaching the gospel to mankind will come to an end. The Gentiles' time is coming to an end.
Consider this: our life here is about preparing for the next age. Are you preparing?

The Great Tribulation

It is our belief that the Great Tribulation referred to in the New Testament Book of Revelation (chapters 6-11) is unfolding before our eyes. In the near future, we will devote the "Tribulation" tab on our "Trending" menu to this emerging reality. As people continue to unplug from mainstream media, our commitment is to present the truth and encourage our audience to understand current events from a Biblical perspective. The Watchman

In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
