Is this verse telling us that because the flesh is evil man must be punished with death because it makes him the enemy of God and that this is why men go to hell? Ummm…. not so much. Because first of all not only do we not see those words being used in Rom.8 or elsewhere. But, secondly when Paul tells us things like this, and things like the carnal mind is at enmity with God in Rom.8:7, he is referring to the mind that was made by God. Or only for “His people” as the verse says? The answer, of course, is that the message in this verse is only for “His people” Israel. Which I will now explain in this message. In the gospel that Jesus preached, we see that He told His people Israel that to have eternal life they must keep the commandments of Moses (Mt.19:16-21) and believe that He is the messiah (John5:24). The testing or trials we undergo come in various ways. Becoming a Christian will often require us to move out of our comfort zones and into the unknown.
