Watchman’s Daily Devotional: Walking In The Spirit Is What It Means To Be Truly Free, And Love Is The First Fruit Of The Spirit

Walking in the Spirit is the only way to be truly free, and the first fruit of the Spirit is love. “All of us have knowledge” must have been another term that the Corinthian church used a lot to explain why they ate meat that had been given to idols. It was hard to get meat unless you went to a pagan temple. The Corinthians thought that because they knew there was only one true God, they could buy the meat that was presented to idols that were really just stones. Paul is telling them that “knowledge” may make us feel good about ourselves. If we think we know more than our brother and do something that hurts his feelings, then that knowledge is a reason to act out of pride. Love makes our fellow Christians stronger. Love will do […]

Watchman’s daily Devotional: Jesus Spoke of “All These Things” That Included His Return. The Greek Word for “Generation” Means “A Period of Time, or a Generation of People, or a Nation

Matthew 24:34 34 “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.” Biblical inspiration believers have struggled with this verse. Some believe end-time prophecy was fulfilled during the AD 70 conquest of Jerusalem. Others believe Jesus was mistaken. I think Scripture’s inspiration is astounding if we look at the query and Jesus’ partial answer. Be aware that the disciples asked two questions. When will these things happen, and what will indicate your arrival (Matthew 24:3)? Jesus had recently mentioned temple destruction. That would happen before that generation died. Jesus’ prediction of those gorgeous stones being overturned came true 40 years later. Jesus also mentioned “all these things”—including His return. Greek “generation” denotes “a period of time, or a generation of people, or a nation.” In Matthew 24:36, Jesus reminds the disciples that

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: If There Is Jealousy or Strife in Your Life, Take Another Look at the Gospel and Humble Yourself Before the Lord and Others

The church in Corinth had split into different groups, and each one said it was the best and best of all. Paul got to the bottom of what was wrong. They weren’t following the Spirit. Jest and fights are sure signs of a sexual life. Both come from nature’s old ways. The Corinthians were envious of those who were pious. It was a competitive energy that comes from being proud. The students talked about how great their teacher was and said that teacher’s teaching was better than other teachers’. When people are spiritually proud, they fight over small beliefs and forget about the big ones. The result is splitting up. It was like the rest of the world, Paul wrote. They did not have any of the fruit of the Spirit in their lives. Paul knew that he couldn’t teach

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: Fellowship Focuses on the Things We Have In Common Regarding Our Love for Jesus and Appreciation for What He Has Done for Us. It Is the Humble Soul Who Will Not Insist on Arguing About Minor Doctrines and Nonessential Convictions

Paul may have understood grace better than anyone else who ever lived. Christians were killed because God called him to be an evangelist. He wrote a lot of the New Testament. He made clear to the church many of the core beliefs of our faith, but he also left room for people with different beliefs about small aspects of living out our faith. People in the early church didn’t always agree on things like which day to pray and whether Christians could eat food that may have been given to idols. Paul told people to follow their feelings when it came to how they lived out their faith in these areas. Don’t do something if you think it’s wrong. Don’t make a big deal out of someone who doesn’t share your beliefs, though. And don’t use your freedom in front

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: Torment Is Often Our Own Unforgiveness. We Play the Offending Scenario Over and Over in Our Minds as It Eats at Our Soul

It’s hard to forgive, but it’s very important to do so. After that, Jesus told a story that showed us why we need to forgive. The story was about a servant who forgot to forgive a huge debt and then refused to forgive a much smaller debt for another servant. When his master heard about it, he changed his mind about forgiving the huge debt. He sent the first helper to be tortured until the debt was paid. Christ forgives us for more than we could ever pay. That’s the point of the story. Since God has shown us so much grace, we should certainly show others grace and forgiveness. God will stop being so kind to us if we aren’t. He said the same thing about the prayer He taught His servants (Matthew 6:14–15). When God deals with us,

Watchman’s Daily Devotional:

How God addresses humanity’s sin is what distinguishes Christianity from every other belief system. Paul teaches us that our core issue is sin. Even those who strive earnestly fall short of God’s standard of holiness. No individual, whether man or woman, is righteous enough to stand before God. God is holy, while we are sinful. Some other religions acknowledge this truth. The significant difference lies in how we can resolve this predicament. The Jews advocate for repentance and good deeds. The Muslims suggest dying as martyrs or doing their utmost while hoping for Allah’s mercy. The Buddhists and Hindus encourage continual effort through each life cycle. In contrast, Jesus proclaims, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus understands that we can never attain goodness sufficient

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: Loving the World Starts With the Belief That God Is Unaware of What Is Truly Best for You and Is Attempting to Deprive You of What You Rightfully Deserve

The love for the world traces back to the Garden of Eden and persists even today. In Genesis 3:6, it is written, “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.” What led them to believe that the fruit was beneficial or could grant wisdom? God had explicitly warned them against it, stating that eating the fruit would lead to death (Gen. 2:17). Yet, Eve chose to trust the serpent’s deception, and Adam followed her lead. Satan continues to spread his falsehoods, but you can resist them by nurturing your love for God and recognizing that the world stands in

TRIBULATION (Gr. “thlipsis”, “pressure”, “oppression”, also translated “affliction”, “persecution” and “anguish”). Tribulation is the general experience of those who want to live godly in Christ Jesus (cf. 2 Tim. 3:12). The first Christians were scattered because of persecution (Gk.: “thlipsis”, “tribulation”, Acts 11:19); It becomes a means by which God produces in the believer a more excellent weight of glory (2 Cor. 4:17), and is a means of communion with Christ (Col. 1:24). The Lord himself helps his people in all his tribulations (Ps. 46: 1), and they will finally be delivered from them (Prov. 12:13). Tribulation and distress will be the lot of the wicked (Rom. 2:9; 2 Thes. 1:6; Rev. 2:22) BETHEL,is the name of a Canaanite city in the ancient region of Samaria, located in the center of the land of Canaan, northwest of Ai on the

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: The World Had No Answer For Death. Let’s Share The Answer We Know Is True So That They Might Know The Joy Of Being Free From Bondage Of The Fear Of Death

Dr. Gary R. Habermas highlights three significant events that most scholars universally acknowledge. Our Savior laid down His life on the cross. (2) His followers had faith that He triumphed over death, and (3) even those who opposed Him acknowledged His resurrection. One of the commonly discussed perspectives regarding resurrection that seeks to clarify all three of these points is the swoon theory. A limited number of scholars find it credible. The belief posits that Jesus did not fully perish but was near death and subsequently regained life after a brief period in the tomb. One perspective on this theory suggests that He may have been administered a substance that led to the appearance of death. The challenge with this perspective is that complete crucifixion invariably resulted in death. Throughout the annals of time, there is but one individual noted

Watchman’s Daily Devotional: God May Lead You To Move To A Fellowship That Is Along The Lines Of Your Personal Convictions, But Be Careful Not To Draw Others Along With You To Prove Your Way Is Best. Confront False Teaching That Clearly Denies The Truth Of The Gospel, But Discuss Minor Doctrines With Gentleness And Respect

Everything about the Lord is summed up in His name. When the Bible talks about a person’s name, like “the name of Jesus,” it means what we can see about that person’s character. Jesus said in this line that God gave Him His name, YHWH, which is what God is like. Jesus shows us how God really looks like a person. Jesus cares about His disciples even though He is about to die on the cross. Asking the Father to keep them “in His name” means that they should stay close to the fruits of the Holy Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). If you keep them in the name of the Lord, they won’t fight over small things or give in to pride. They will be in perfect unity as
