Watchman’s Daily Devotional: The Trials and Temptations of Life Are Necessary to Help Us Grow in Dependence on the Lord and Faith in His Word
After Jesus began His ministry with His baptism by John, the Spirit of God guided Him into the wilderness to face temptation from the devil. It’s important to remember the cautionary note often seen in car commercials: “Professional driver – closed course. Do not attempt.” Similarly, while God permits trials and temptations to fortify us, we must recognize their purpose. A delicate plant moved abruptly into bright sunlight may wither, while a tree that withstands strong winds develops deep roots to endure ongoing storms. Jesus demonstrated that He would not depend on His own understanding or seek shortcuts to His mission. Instead, He fully relied on the Word of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
