Like David, We Ought to Be in Awe and Humility

David felt a deep sense of humility after Nathan shared God’s message with him. Why had God been so gracious to him and honored his house so greatly? He questioned. His mouth dried up at the thought of God’s mercy. He insisted God knew who he was, yet He was still lavishing him with blessings. After that, he says what you just read. It takes a great God to love me this much. He has dominion over everything. When compared to Him, nothing else comes near. With such absolute surety, who else could predict what’s to come? Only the Sovereign LORD can be worshipped. We are familiar with the unparalleled accounts of His deeds. An unparalleled God performs unparalleled deeds.

Get your head around the fact that David’s promises are yours to take. Isaiah 55:3 Just as good is God’s decision to shower you with His everlasting love. Even though He is aware of who you are, He has shown you more honor than you deserve. Joining His everlasting family is what He is doing with you. It will take a long time for me to process such a tremendous honor.

Who could love us more than God? It’s incredible! What a magnificent being He is! From the very start, he decides everything. Nobody compares to Him. Nobody will treat you with the same kindness, love, and respect that you deserve. All of this is being done to bring credit and honor to His name.

We ought to feel the same sense of wonder and humility as David did.

2 Samuel 7:22 22“How great you are, O Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
