It is critical to acknowledge the significance of individual liberty; many individuals have made the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard this priceless asset.

With this in mind, I argue that it is every citizen's right and obligation to challenge their government's conduct. Are governments worldwide today looking out for their citizens' interests or are they leveraging the current crisis to seize power at the cost of the people? If this is the intention of people in power in America, they stand to benefit in a number of ways by exacerbating this crisis in order to exert their dominance.

To begin, they teach the people to obey their commands and execute their bidding.
Second, they devastate the economy by killing small enterprises and increasing our reliance on their bigger, government-controlled counterparts.
Thirdly, and perhaps most significantly, they increase the number of individuals who depend on government subsidies.

Additionally, this enables the government to increase monitoring for the "greater good." Fear and propaganda are very effective strategies for manipulating public opinion. This is one of the fundamental weaknesses of democracy; it enables a simple majority to impose its will on a minority. This is why our forebears included checks and balances into the Constitution; but, even these safeguards do not ensure that liberty will continue to exist. Today, not everyone bears the same amount of risk and has equal skin in the game. Over time, crony capitalism and a political system that panders to the public by swapping favors for trinkets have poisoned our financial system and institutions.

One may argue that people in authority do not have to take our freedom away violently if we are prepared to give it up or swap it for a few paid weeks off work.

Nor are they required to be fair in their approach if a majority of the people agrees to their strategy. Whatever you choose to call it, a stay-at-home order or a nationwide quarantine, the end result is the same: government control over your mobility.

Perhaps the most frightening element of this whole affair is the ease with which Americans have succumbed to fear and misinformation.

Neighbors are reporting neighbors who leave their homes, go for a stroll, clear their throats, or engage in other previously permitted behavior (they would still be legal if the Constitution had any remaining relevance). Apps have been created to track and report on people's whereabouts, coughs, sneezes, sniffles, and runny noses.

These Digital Brownshirts are only the most visible and forward-thinking elements of a much larger effort to establish the logic of the algorithm as the cornerstone of our human interactions and cognitive processes—a providential and vertically imposed concept of truth that vitiates traditional fact-finding and admits neither human intelligence nor scientific debate. This paradigm presents a linear connection between power and truth as entirely natural.

Tyrants emerged out the woodwork under the garb of care for our health and well-being. Our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and our lives are being systematically destroyed as the left consolidates and increases its repressive control. We've been herded like livestock, intimidated, segregated, restricted, silenced, and detained. Whatever you want to call it, it's occurring.

We've been informed who may and cannot work, using terminology that categorizes us according to who is and who is not "important," as the all-powerful State trumps individual rights and the family unit.

We have been harassed physically and verbally, fined, detained, arrested, imprisoned, and/or put in forced quarantine. Licenses to do business have been revoked. Working without the government's authorization is now a felony. As is visiting a park or a beach. Additionally, children playing together defies the authority. Similarly, putting flags on soldiers' graves is acceptable. The list of offenses continues indefinitely. Examples read like a crazy madman's manifesto.

Recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) decisions to monitor trucker protests and link domestic terrorism to disinformation have sparked outrage among some conservatives and civil libertarians, but DHS Counter-terrorism Coordinator John Cohen defended his department's actions during a Feb. 15 online forum.

The Department of Homeland Security's February 7 alert warned of an increased terrorist danger due to "false and misleading narratives," disinformation, and "conspiracy theories."

"The United States continues to be in a high-risk environment exacerbated by a number of factors, including an online environment saturated with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, as well as other forms of dis- and mal-information introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors," the bulletin stated.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) b. 15 letter, while the Center to Advance Security (CASA) allegedly accused the DHS of "policing" speech in a Ferity in America (CASA) is investigating the agency over its methods for creating the bulletin, the Washington Times said.

Cohen defended the message at an online forum held by George Washington University's Program on Extremism on February 15. He said that the DHS now has "concrete evidence" connecting violence to narratives about the government's reaction to COVID-19, the 2020 presidential election, immigration, and race.

"We have connected those themes to the vast majority of domestic violent extremism instances," he said.
