The Memo: Trump’s Iran Deal Faces Growing Doubts

The agreement that President Trump made to stop the conflict with Iran is causing a huge storm.

Official signing of the two parties’ agreed-upon memorandum of understanding (MOU) is scheduled for Friday in Switzerland. Notable officials in both Washington and Tehran, including Trump, have already electronically signed it. A storm is brewing over President Trump’s agreement to end the conflict with Iran.

The memorandum of understanding reached between the two parties is due to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday. It has already been electronically signed by key officials in Tehran and Washington, including Trump. However, no official text has been made available. Fear, speculation, and, more recently, potentially inaccurate text leaks have filled the void.

Trump stated on Tuesday that he will go over the agreement “word for word” in public, but only in “the next couple of days.”

The ultimate line is that Republican lawmakers, especially those with a more aggressive outlook, are very concerned, some famous conservative commentators are enraged, and many around Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that demands to review the transaction have been denied, which they view as unprecedented and callous treatment of a friend.

Democrats and liberals are mainly content to watch the chaos on the right play out. Their stance is that Trump launched into a reckless and pointless war, from which he is now willing to pay nearly any price to get out.

None of this suggests that the agreement will fail or that Trump will reconsider. To the contrary, the president may maintain that stopping the war, restoring oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz, and alleviating the inflationary pressures that have led petrol prices to skyrocket at home are in his best interests.

If Trump believes that American voters in the midterm elections are more concerned with gas prices than the finer aspects of Iranian uranium enrichment, he is probably correct. However, this does not guarantee that the same voters will forgive him for beginning the conflict in the first place.
