An angel revealed to Daniel a vision concerning the future of Israel and the events of the last days. Daniel found this vision perplexing, prompting the angel to instruct that the words should remain sealed until the appointed time. Many individuals intrigued by the concept of the end times have sought to interpret the messages found in Daniel and Revelation. The angel emphasized that the book would remain closed until that designated period. While speculation is possible, true understanding will only come to the wise when the time is fulfilled.
What is known is elaborated in the surrounding verses. A period of significant distress is foretold for the Jewish people (Daniel 12:1), which other prophecies refer to as “Jacob’s Trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7). God promises a remarkable deliverance for those whose names are inscribed in the book. The verse for today indicates that people will be moving about extensively. Never before in human history has travel reached such unprecedented levels.
Our skies are increasingly populated with larger aircraft, ferrying vast numbers of individuals across the globe. The rate of knowledge acquisition is accelerating dramatically. Educational institutions struggle to keep their curricula current amid this rapid expansion of information. In my relatively short lifetime, computers and mobile phones have become ubiquitous in households. Surgical procedures such as heart valve replacements and bypass surgeries have become commonplace. Joints like hips and knees are now routinely replaced with titanium components. Additionally, devices are implanted to maintain heart rhythms, and we have successfully mapped the human genome while deploying powerful telescopes into orbit to capture images of distant galaxies.
It’s it time for the book of Daniel to be opened? We should keep our eyes on Israel. The threat of their annihilation grows daily as the turmoil in the Middle East increases. We should be living as if every day was our last. Love wholeheartedly. Obey the leading of the Holy Spirit. Pray without ceasing. Live in expectation of the Master’s return (Luke 12:25-48).
