Watchman’s Daily Devotional: How Appropriate That the One, Whose Name in English Is Jesus, Should Lead Them Into the Promised Land. Jesus Leads Us to Inherit All That God Has for Us. There in the Wilderness, Moses Was Telling the People That Joshua Was Going to Need Their Encouragement

How fitting that they should be led into the Promised Land by the one whose name is Jesus in English. Jesus shows us how to inherit everything that God has planned for us. Moses was informing the people in the wilderness that Joshua would require their support.

Romans 12:8 lists leadership as one of the gifts. If it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is helping others, let him give liberally; if it is leadership, let him govern faithfully; if it is giving mercy, let him do it cheerfully. The fact that some people possess and utilize this gift does not imply that they are capable of doing it independently. They also require other people to use their gifts. In the Romans chapter, encouragement is the first gift mentioned.

Although we consider the gifts to be exclusively New Testament, they were somewhat present in the Old Testament as well. Because they see more of the issues than most people do, leaders struggle with discouragement. When things are not going well, they are also criticized. Some people express their dissatisfaction to the leader since their own preferences are not taken into consideration. Moses had frequently encountered the discouragement that results from following God’s instructions. He was aware of the need for encouragement.

Motivate your leaders. They can, of course, become conceited and arrogant like everyone else, but the majority of them require a sincere word of support. Seek out what you perceive to be the Holy Spirit’s guidance in the ministry of the elders in your immediate vicinity, and give them encouragement by sharing your own experience of its ministry. They require sincere encouragement rather than praise.

Think about calling them or leaving them a note. An encouraging person might be anyone.

Deuteronomy 1:38 38But your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will enter it. Encourage him, because he will lead Israel to inherit it.
