Numbers 23:19 19 Is God a person who would lie? Is God a son of a person who would change his mind? Does he talk and then do nothing? Does he say things he won’t do?
The evil king who wants to curse Israel hears Balaam and says, “Look, I told you before, and God doesn’t change His mind.” Israel is blessed! I can’t curse them if God blesses them!” We wish God would change His mind sometimes. We might change our minds if we knew all of His reasons. We make a mistake when we think of God like we think of people. “Unstable as water” is what Jacob said about people. Like a liquid, we fit into the container that our lives give us. God doesn’t change, though!
He doesn’t need to lie. He was never in the dark about anything because He knows everything. He was always able to carry out His plans because He was all-powerful. Since they were everyplace, nothing ever got away. They got His attention or snuck up on Him. He’s not going to change His mind. We are happy about that because we know He will always accept what Christ did for us. He will never decide that it wasn’t enough. He will never ask for more than what Jesus did for you. He spoke, and now He will do something. Devil can’t hit Him by surprise. God has made a promise, and He will keep it.
Balaam later tried to make money by getting Israel to give in, but he forgot what he had said. He may have thought that they would lose God’s favor if they gave in. We can think about things other than what we know to be true. God doesn’t change! It is as He said it is. Don’t try to get around it.
Ask yourself, “Why would I want God to change what He said?”
