After the “Horrible” Winter Storm That Killed More Than a Dozen New Yorkers, New Concerns Have Emerged

HNewsWire: In the meanwhile, suggest buying an electric vehicle while also reducing your heating and cooling needs...

Forecasters predict additional snow for this week, and local authorities in Western New York and Buffalo warn the death toll from the recent winter storm continues to rise.

At a press conference on Monday, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz claimed that "the Erie County Department of Health medical examiner's office has verified an additional 12 fatalities, bringing the total for the snowstorm to 25 deaths county-wide."

According to official forecasts, the Buffalo region might get as much as 12 inches of snow on Monday and Tuesday. Poloncarz advised people to remain in their homes on Monday.

According to the AFP news agency, he told reporters, "This is not the end yet." There is no "we" in "we are not there."

Poloncarz said that further fatalities had been recorded and that the Erie County Medical Examiner's office was investigating to see whether these deaths were weather-related.

Starting late on Friday, the greatest snowstorm to hit western New York in 45 years continued to lash the region over the Christmas holiday weekend. It was the culmination of many days of Arctic cold and a winter storm front that had blanketed the United States from the Canadian border to the southern tip of Mexico.

As of Monday morning, estimates indicated that at least 50 individuals have lost their lives in the United States due to weather-related accidents since late last week.

Gov. Kathy Hochul declared this storm, which brought record-breaking low temperatures, gale-force winds, and significant "lake-effect" snow (the consequence of precipitation picked up by cool air traveling over warmer lake waters), "the Blizzard of '22."

It was the worst winter storm to strike Buffalo, New York state's second-largest city, since a snowstorm that killed almost 30 people in 1977, prompting the governor to label it a "epic, once-in-a-lifetime" calamity. A lot of the city of Buffalo remains inaccessible as of Monday, he said, calling the situation "extremely precarious."

There have been more than 15,000 flight cancellations in the last several days, as reported by Flightaware.com. According to the website, almost 1,600 were canceled on Monday.

"We had to deploy specialist rescue workers to go fetch the rescuers," Poloncarz told CNN on Monday to further on the issue. He described the experience as "horrendous" and stated it lasted for 24 consecutive hours.

Poloncarz remarked, "We're accustomed to snow here, we can manage snow... but with the wind, the blinding views—it was total whiteouts—and the severe cold, it was some of the worst circumstances that any of us have ever seen."

"Consider staring at a blank white wall a few feet in front of you for more than 24 hours straight. In the worst weather, it was like that outdoors, he told CNN. It snowed constantly, and there were frequent whiteouts, making it impossible to see. There was complete confusion; no one knew what was going on.

Buffalo in the Winter
The streets and automobiles in Buffalo, New York, are blanketed with snow as strong winds blow across the city on December 25th, 2022.

Calling in the National Guard
Hochul stated over the weekend that hundreds of National Guard men were dispatched to New York to assist in rescue attempts. Meanwhile, she said that state troopers had assisted in 500 rescues as of Sunday, and that they had delivered a baby and aided a guy with just 4 percent remaining on his artificial heart.

Hochul stated at a Saturday news conference, "We're still in the midst of this extremely serious life-threatening crisis." He urged New Yorkers to remain off the roadways. Hochul stated that despite the hazardous conditions, state and county plow drivers had been out clearing roadways constantly during the storm.

Poloncarz stated on Sunday that hundreds of motorists were trapped over the weekend in Erie County despite the prohibition on road traffic that had been in place since Friday due to white-out conditions and drifting snow.

He told reporters that several snow plows and other pieces of equipment sent on Saturday and Sunday were trapped in the snow and that rescue missions had to be launched to free the rescuers.

If you "have a snow mobile and are eager to help," the Buffalo police have set up a hotline for you to contact so that they can give you specific instructions on how to participate in the search and recovery operation.

Christina Klaffka, 39, of North Buffalo, heard her windows rattling and saw her neighbor's shingles fly off their roof due to "hurricane-like gusts." On Saturday night, she and her whole neighborhood lost electricity, and it hadn't been restored by Sunday morning.

My TV kept cutting out when I was attempting to watch the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears game. She said, "I lost power sometime after the third quarter.

HNewsWire: I did this on purpose. Get some sleep, would you? In order to keep the New World Order in place, it was necessary to put everyone in the freezer. If you can manipulate the climate, you can dominate the masses.

Do we really want the American poor to go without heating this winter? And the nut nuts in the White House want everyone to switch to EVs.
An example of the green new deal in action. Winter kills everything and everyone. Heat stroke and death in the summer.

No recharging of electric cars or use of remote charging stations will be permitted during or soon after a power outage, since this will be a legal requirement in the near future. The fact that YOU WON'T BE PERMITTED TO DRIVE ANYWHERE means that they can save more power. Insanity at the wheel is imminent.

A warmer planet is something I really like...

Utilities in the United States issued pleas for consumers to reduce their energy use on Saturday and Sunday because of the extreme cold.

Con Edison, the utility company that services the New York City region, has issued a plea to its 1.1 million natural gas, 3.5 million electric, and other New York City customers to reduce their energy use. Lows of about 15 degrees Fahrenheit were recorded in Manhattan between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Con Edison issued a statement late Saturday night urging customers to save energy in order to secure sufficient supply of natural gas for the remainder of the weekend. The utility firm noted, "Owners of natural gas pipelines have indicated that equipment difficulties due to the cold weather and the strong demand for natural gas are affecting their capacity to deliver appropriate volumes of gas across the Northeast."

ISO New England, another regional grid operator, issued a warning on Saturday about "insufficient reserve supplies" and asked its members to "voluntarily limit electricity" to relieve system stress, as reported by Bloomberg.

ISO New England spokesperson Matthew Kakley told Bloomberg News, "We have issued a power caution for the area, and [are] relying upon reserve resources owing to the unexpected loss of generation and imports."

According to a press statement, Duke Energy, which serves consumers in numerous states, made a similar request to them earlier on Saturday. It blamed low temperatures and high demand for electricity for the shortage.

On December 22, 2022, as snow falls and temperatures plummet in St. Louis, traffic moves along Interstate 44. PJM member utilities will be able to continue providing reliable service during this period of significantly low temperatures across the region if their customers in Ohio and Kentucky voluntarily reduce their usage of all non-essential electricity until 10 a.m. on Christmas Day, according to the release.

After more people started using the grid, the company said later Saturday that rolling blackouts will be implemented in North and South Carolina on Christmas Eve. On Saturday about noon, 340,000 of Duke's customers lost power.

In a tweet, North Carolina's Democratic governor, Roy Cooper, said he had spoken with Duke Energy CEO Lynn Good "to offer help and to stress urgency about the need to restore power swiftly in this severe cold while keeping consumers correctly informed."

The governor expressed his appreciation for the hardworking individuals who endured the bitter weather to restore electricity.

Also On Saturday, PJM Interconnection, headquartered in Pennsylvania, issued a critical warning for conservation across 13 states. Customers were urged to turn their thermostats down and avoid using high-power devices like clothes dryers, stoves, and dishwashers.

Mike Bryson, PJM's senior vice president for operations, told local reporters, "It'll be short-lived, we'll do all we can to avoid it, but it is a genuine possibility."

On December 23, 2022 in Toronto, a guy braves the snow to cross the street. An area covering most of southern Ontario is under a winter storm warning.

Approximately 1.7 million homes and businesses lost electricity as a result of the blizzards, freezing rain, and subzero temperatures that blanketed most of the United States. PJM's service area includes all or portions of 13 states and the District of Columbia: DE, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, NJ, NC, OH, PA, TN, VA, WV, and DC.

Some power facilities are having trouble running in the high cold, which PJM officials say contributed to a simultaneous rise in demand throughout its electric system. They issued a statement advising people to be ready in the event of rolling blackouts. According to PJM, commercial and industrial customers have also been advised to reduce their electricity use.

According to FlightAware, more than 6,400 flights in the United States were delayed or canceled on Saturday. On Friday, more than 5,000 flights were canceled, according to FlightAware.

At least 16 people were killed and hundreds more were left stranded on icy and snow-covered roads as a result of weather-related automobile accidents, according to media sources.

According to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, the National Guard was summoned in to assist with rescues on Saturday morning after roughly 500 people were stuck in their cars on Friday night. One person's body was discovered in a vehicle, he added.

The high plains and central United States will return to normal by Tuesday, but the East Coast won't warm up until Thursday or Friday, according to forecasts.

Jesus chastised religious leaders in the first century for not knowing the time of His arrival. Will we make the same mistake today? Christ stated how His second coming would be preceded by global events signifying the end of our age. We may not know the day or the hour, but we can know the season!
