Is there a mistake that I do all the time that needs to be killed?
These days, a common effort stresses that Jesus’ main focus was on love, so they play down any talk of hell. That’s how some Christians act: “I’ll have some wisdom and a lot of love, but please don’t give me any judgment.” We have to agree with everything the Bible says if we want to use it as a guide. Christ talked more about hell than about heaven. His whole point in coming was to save us from hell. He went through pain and death for us so that we could have a fair way to avoid going to hell because we deserve to be punished.
In today’s reading, Jesus tells us to deal with sin in our lives in a very different way. He doesn’t mean that we should cut off our hands, but He is telling us that we need to deal with sin in our lives right away. Anything that tempts you needs to go. That which allows you to keep doing a certain sin must be dealt with. Can you get to porn on the computer? Either get a filter or give the computer away. Does the way you get home pass that bar where you drink too much? Change the way you’re going home. Does TV take up too much of your time and keep you from reading the Bible? Call and stop your paid TV or give your TV away.
The most important thing is how you will spend all time. Anything that keeps you from committing your whole life to Christ will kill your life in the end if you don’t deal with it. Jesus told us very strongly that we need to do something about the sin in our lives right away. That’s because He loves us so much. Even if we say we are in Jesus, what we do shows where our hearts really are. Psalm 97:10 says that if you love the Lord, you will hate bad things.
Think about this: Is there a sin that I do all the time that needs to be killed?
