Watchman: Daily Devotional, Do Not Be Afraid of Those Who Kill the Body but Cannot Kill the Soul. Rather, Be Afraid of the One Who Can Destroy Both Soul and Body in Hell

Matthew 10:24-25, 28 (NIV) 24" A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

If you identify with Jesus, prepare your heart to be treated like Jesus was treated. They referred to Him as the Lord of the Demons. That is, they regard His disciples as demons. One of Satan's (the accuser of the brethren) recurring practices is to accuse God's people of the identical things he is guilty of. It happens so frequently that you can bank on it. They will believe they are serving God by making the allegations. We should walk with God in a way that does not bring us into disrepute, but it does not mean the enemy will not accuse you of what he is doing. You're in great company. The saints who came before you were similarly accused.

About the fear of men, the Lord gave us a negative imperative. Do not attempt it! Men should not be feared! They can only kill your body. Eternity is much longer than our brief existence on Earth. Be afraid of God. Live in reverent awe of His will. He will pass judgment on all men. Live in such a way that you will be found innocent of betrayal and revolt. That may imply confronting evil in your culture, church, and home. Your stance may have negative effects. Don't be afraid of man's reaction. Dread God's disobedience.

The way we conduct ourselves reveals which reality we support. Man's fear tells us that this world is all there is. We believe in eternity because we fear God. Your life sends out one message or another. People who truly believe in a sovereign, eternal God are capable of facing anything that man may hurl at them. They have a divine bravery that demonstrates their focus is on everlasting realities. They gaze beyond the current hardship to the glory that is yet to be revealed. They have shared in Christ's sufferings.

Think about Eternity!

The Great Tribulation

It is our belief that the Great Tribulation referred to in the New Testament Book of Revelation (chapters 6-11) is unfolding before our eyes. In the near future, we will devote the "Tribulation" tab on our "Trending" menu to this emerging reality. As people continue to unplug from mainstream media, our commitment is to present the truth and encourage our audience to understand current events from a Biblical perspective. The Watchman

In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
