Watchman’s Daily Devotional: The Trials and Temptations of Life Are Necessary to Help Us Grow in Dependence on the Lord and Faith in His Word

After Jesus began His ministry with His baptism by John, the Spirit of God guided Him into the wilderness to face temptation from the devil. It’s important to remember the cautionary note often seen in car commercials: “Professional driver – closed course. Do not attempt.” Similarly, while God permits trials and temptations to fortify us, we must recognize their purpose. A delicate plant moved abruptly into bright sunlight may wither, while a tree that withstands strong winds develops deep roots to endure ongoing storms.

Jesus demonstrated that He would not depend on His own understanding or seek shortcuts to His mission. Instead, He fully relied on the Word of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We, too, must cultivate this same trust in the Father to be effective in God’s kingdom. Our temptations will match our strength (1 Corinthians 10:13). If we turn to the LORD during these challenges, He will show us a way out.

Life’s trials and temptations are essential for fostering our dependence on the LORD and our faith in His Word. Rather than viewing them as burdens, we should see them as opportunities for growth. When we emerge victorious, we can share the insights we’ve gained to support others facing similar challenges. Whether dealing with a physical issue or a spiritual struggle, seek God’s guidance on how these experiences can strengthen your faith. Look for ways to uplift others who are navigating their own difficulties.
