Watchman: Daily Devotional, God Knows We Require the Tests and Hardships That the Wicked Throw at Us. Their Challenges Teach Us Patience and Compassion, but Most Importantly, They Cause Us to Trust in God’s Sovereignty
Matthew 13:28-30 (NIV) 28"'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' 29"'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'"
Jesus told a parable about weeds being discovered in a wheat field. The field's owner suspected that an opponent had spread the weed seeds. People who worked in the field inquired if they should pluck the weeds. Because the owner was concerned that the wheat may be destroyed during the procedure, he told them to wait until harvest. They would then be able to distinguish between the good and the bad.
This is one of the parables that Jesus clarified later. We understand exactly what he meant. The field represents the entire world. God's children are the wheat. Weeds are the children of the devil. Taking away the wicked now will harm the wheat. We are to grow together till the harvest. Angels will sort out the good from the bad. According to Jesus, the angels will root out not just people who do evil, but also everything that generates evil. It is a fantastic promise! The products will shine like the sun in the Father's kingdom.
We sometimes ask why God does not punish evil right now. In this tale, Jesus has given us the reason. Farming was not done in rows in ancient times. Stepping into that field would harm part of the wheat. Digging up the weed roots would cause damage to the wheat roots. God knows we require the tests and hardships that the wicked throw at us. Their challenges teach us patience and compassion, but most importantly, they cause us to trust in God's sovereignty. Our natural mind believes that removing them would greatly improve our performance. Allow God to utilize the difficulties in your life to pull you closer to Him. Understand that they were not removed for no reason.
Remember, your father is the expert.

The Watchman
In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
