Update (1420ET): Former Navy Seal and Blackwater founder Erik Prince gave a detailed assessment of yesterday’s Secret Service debacle in the wake of a failed assassination attempt on former President Trump.

“Hopefully after the tragedy yesterday in Butler PA we can all recognize that unaccountable bloated bureaucracies continue to fail us as Americans,” Prince posted to X.

A nasty would-be assassin’s faulty wind calculation saved Donald J. Trump.

The visuals illustrate that a full value breeze of 5mph was adequate to shift the unverified but probable light 55 grain bullet two inches from DJT’s forehead to his ear.

USSS brilliance did not save DJT. USSS let a rifle-armed gunman within 150 yds of a scheduled event, demonstrating malice or incompetence. Clearly, there was enough uncontrolled empty area for a shooter to position and aim many bullets. The brief interval between the supersonic bullet crack and the muzzle blast shows how close the shooter is in the newsreel.

The law enforcement sniper (unclear if USSS) in newsreels was plainly overwhelmed as his face left his weapon instead of killing the shooter. They were watching the shooter but prohibit “first shot” An alleged 488 yd shot by one USSS sniper dispatched the assassin, although he fired at least five bullets, striking DJT and killing and badly injuring others in the crowd.

I used to provide diplomatic security in two active war zones and was expected to do the fundamentals or be fired. USSS failed to secure a perimeter, and their extraction was clumsy, leaving DJT vulnerable to follow-up attacks. It appeared they had never drilled together because those responses should be autonomic. Will responsibility exist? Not Washington style.

This near tragedy was caused by unworthy leaders. Hiring and leadership should be based on merit and performance, not social engineering. Sadly, Washington no longer reflects that. DJT is right to doubt his protectors’ competency after their near-total failure yesterday. Nature hates vacuums and offers alternatives.

The Biden campaign, which has been embroiled in scandal, has decided to cease all advertising against former President Donald Trump following an attempt on his life by a shooter on Saturday. A campaign official informed The Wall Street Journal on Sunday morning that Joe Biden is “temporarily halting all external communications and actively removing our television advertisements as swiftly as feasible.”
