Luke 2:11
11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
The heavenly messenger delivered these sacred words to the shepherds tending their flocks in the fields of Bethlehem.. These shepherds might have been caring for sheep that were destined for sacred offerings in the nearby temple of Jerusalem. The messenger could have been conveying to them the need to seek a new path in their work. To you is given the precious gift of the Lamb of God!
The phrase “In the city of David” evokes the profound promise of a Savior emerging from the lineage of David. He is our Redeemer, yet His purpose was not to free us from the burdens imposed by humanity. He arrived to free us from the bondage of sin and the looming consequences of judgment. He is the Savior, the chosen one, the one set apart for a divine purpose. And He reigns supreme! Not merely a leader, but the Sovereign. He is the Source of all that is and ever will be. This profound statement from the angel reveals the true essence of Jesus.
These celestial beings would share the same message with you and me. A gift has been bestowed upon us, the Chosen One who shall eternally sit upon the throne of David, our Redeemer from sin and death, the Sovereign of all creation. He arrived for our sake! He arrived to renew what transgression has deeply tarnished, the reflection of the Divine within us. We are called to embrace Him as our Savior and Lord in order to fully experience the profound transformation He offers. We are called to follow the example of the shepherds from ancient times, to earnestly seek Him and offer our heartfelt worship.
