Psalms 56:2-4 Psalms 56:2-4 2My slanderers pursue me all day long; many are attacking me in their pride. 3When I am afraid, I will trust in you. 4In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?
There are moments in life when it feels as if everyone is unfairly united against you. Slander can destroy a good reputation, as others accept lies and believe they are acting righteously by bringing you down. Their pride convinces them they are more deserving than you, so they seek to discredit what your hard work has achieved.
During such times, it may feel like chaos and evil are winning, and justice is out of reach. That feeling can be frightening. But in those moments of fear, we must remember where real power lies—not in slanderers, not in those who seem to have control, but in God alone. When we trust in His promises, our faith lifts us above our circumstances and anchors us in hope.
This perspective helps us, as David did, to boldly say, “What can mere humans do to me?” People can lie, slander, and cause harm, but only God holds true power. Our trust in Him ensures an eternal reward. Eventually, all will acknowledge His truth—either by joining in faith or by facing the consequence of rejecting His love. In the end, righteousness and truth will triumph, just as God’s Word always has and always will.
Consider:
Whenever you are afraid, set your trust in God—He never fails, and no person’s actions can thwart His ultimate plan.
Prayer: Lord,
When I feel surrounded by difficulties and unkind words, remind me that true strength and justice come from You. Help me to trust in Your promises, even when fear arises. Let Your word fill my heart with peace, and keep my focus on Your unfailing love. Thank You for being my refuge and never failing me. Amen.
