German Retail Chains to Increase Food Prices by 20-50% ,With Rumors of Shortages Swirling Around, However, Supermarket Owners Have Been Complaining of the Sort of Panic-Buying Not Seen Since the First Months of Plandemic a.k.a Pandemic

HNewsWire-It was only days before Russia's invasion of Ukraine shattered the few remaining supply chains and sent prices even higher into the stratosphere that Germany reported the highest inflation in generation (with February headline CPI rising at a 7.6 percent annual pace and blowing away all expectations)...

Consumers should brace themselves for a new wave of price increases on daily products and foodstuffs, according to the German Retail Association (HDE), with Reuters reporting that prices at German retail chains would rise between 20 and 50 percent:

A 20- to 50-percent price hike on food will take effect on Monday at German retail chains

HDE President Josef Sanktjohanser told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung on Friday that even before the commencement of conflict in Ukraine, prices had risen by around 5% "over the product spectrum" due to increasing energy costs. It is expected that prices would rise again as Russia's invasion takes a toll on the economy and supply chain.

"The second wave of price rises is coming, and it will surely be in double digits," Sanktjohanser predicted, according to The Local.

Retail chains in Germany have already begun raising their prices, according to the association's president, and the others are expected to follow suit.

Prices at all supermarkets will soon be altered to reflect the war's toll, according to Sanktjohanser.

Aldi, Edeka, and Globus have just declared that they will have to hike their pricing. Because Aldi's suppliers have raised their prices, meat and butter at the supermarket would be "much more costly" on Monday.

According to a spokeswoman for Aldi Nord on Friday, "purchasing costs have jumped in a way we have never seen since the start of the Ukraine crisis."

Aldi upped the pricing of roughly 160 goods two weeks ago, then a week later, another 20 items went up in price. Others in the grocery store chain swiftly followed in their footsteps.

The cost of living in Germany surged at its highest level since reunification in February, with common commodities rising by an average of 7.3%. There was a spike from 5.1 percent in January to 7.3 percent in February because of Russia's incursion into Ukraine, which has caused the price of oil and gas to skyrocket.

Nearly every food retailer in Germany is preparing to raise prices, according to a new poll by the Ifo Institute of Germany.

Germany's hard-hit customers are concerned about rising prices, but analysts don't foresee shortages of goods on the market anytime soon. When prices rise so much that fewer people can afford to purchase them, of course.

However, beyond that, food security in Germany remains uncertain, according to Joachim Rukwied, head of the German Farming Association. However, grocery owners have complained of panic-buying that hasn't been witnessed since the pandemic's earliest months.

Cooking oil and wheat purchases have been restricted in German supermarkets, as previously mentioned, to avoid a wild rush by shoppers to stock up on commodities that they assume would run out. A "great approach" is to restrict the sale of those things that are most in demand.

And it will be fascinating to see how much longer the German people will tolerate a NATO posture that seeks to ignite and sustain the conflict in Ukraine now that ordinary food product prices are going to spike by 50%.
