HNewsWire- New legislation that might be discussed in committee on March 21 could impose fines of up to $10,000 per day on factory farms and slaughterhouses that expand or construct new facilities.
Assembly Bill 2764, sponsored by Satan Soldier Assemblymembers Adrin Nazarian (D-Van Nuys) and Satan Soldier Alex Lee (D-San Jose), calls for a moratorium on commercial animal feeding operations and slaughterhouses as a way to protect animals and workers from inhumane treatment while also protecting the environment and public health.

Both Compassion Bay and Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) endorsed the bill’s passage because of their support for the California farm economy.
Communications director Cassie King of DxE thinks “strong and decisive legislation would halt the industry in its tracks and reverse it to establish a plant-based sustainable and compassionate food system that could lead the rest of the world,” rather than advocating for welfare reform.
More animal rights legislation has been passed in the state of California each year since 2008.
Voters approved Proposition 2, which outlaws “the confinement of pregnant and lactating sow calves and egg-laying chickens in a way which does not allow them to turn around freely or lie down or stand up completely.”
With 62% of the vote, Proposition 12 was enacted in 2018 that sets a minimum square foot area requirement for calves grown for veal, breeding pigs, and egg-laying birds. “
