When You Are Discouraged and Downhearted, Know That God Is Sovereign Over All. Circumstances Will Change in His Perfect Time…

When Ahab told Jezebel of Elijah’s victory on Mt. Carmel, she promised to treat Elijah as he had treated the prophets of Baal. She made an oath that was typical at the period. She promised that if she couldn’t do it to him, the gods could. God took her up on it. We must exercise caution when making vows. God hears them.

It’s difficult to imagine her heart being so hard that, even after hearing of a magnificent miracle from God, she would attempt to murder the instrument of that miracle. Elijah took the danger seriously. He confronted the false prophets, but he feared Jezebel and her army. Going off into the desert, he found some shade to rest in and requested God to lead him home.

He must have expected things to shift dramatically following the tremendous victory. People knew Jehovah was God, so why didn’t they overthrow Ahab and Jezebel? Elijah had burned out. He had struggled for his life and the LORD’s cause and reached a turning point, but nothing appeared to have changed. Even great men of God lose hope in life. In God’s time, the nation will undergo change. Elijah had to train another disciple before he could enter his heavenly home. Despair strikes us at times, but do not give up. There are still things to be done.

When you are disheartened and downhearted, remember that God is in control of everything. Circumstances will change in His perfect time.
