Watchman: Daily Devotional, “Our Father Who Art in Heaven” (Matt. 6:9).With God as Your Father, Your Life Has Eternal Significance

Poet Thomas Hardy said that prayer is useless because there's no one to pray to except "that dreaming, dark, dumb thing that turns the handle of this idle show." Voltaire described life as a bad joke. He added, "Bring down the curtain; the farce is done." Such is the blasphemy and despair of all who insist that God is uninvolved in human affairs.

The fatherhood of God was rejected by Greek and Roman intellectuals of Jesus' day because it violated their philosophical theories. According to the Stoic thinkers, all gods were apathetic and had no emotions. According to Epicurean philosophy, the greatest characteristic of the gods was full calm, or perfect tranquility. To retain their peace, they needed to be completely removed from the human condition.

All such errors are refuted by Scripture, which declares God to be an intimate, caring parent. That truth has enormous implications. He vanquishes your concerns and consoles you in your hour of need. He cleanses you of your sins and provides you eternal hope. He lavishes you with boundless resources and bestows upon you an imperishable legacy. Through His Spirit and His Word, He gives you insight and direction. He will never abandon or abandon you.

When you approach God humbly as your Father, you take on the role of a child anxious to obey his father's desire and reap the benefits of His grace. Allow that to move you beyond your current circumstances and inspire you to think about what is eternal.

In the near future, we will devote the "Tribulation" tab on our "Trending" menu to this emerging reality. As people continue to unplug from mainstream media, our commitment is to present the truth and encourage our audience to understand current events from a Biblical perspective. The Watchman

In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
