By SRH, “Inside Edition” recently conducted an investigation into the issue of tax-exempt parsonages. The news report showcased aerial footage captured by drones and photographs of some of the largest mansions owned by churches in America. Lisa Guerrero, the investigative reporter, made an attempt to interview televangelist Jesse Duplantis about his residence, but he declined to answer any questions.

Ryan Burge, an Associate Pastor and Political Scientist, shared his insights with “Inside Edition”: “If you own a multi-million-dollar house, your property tax bill could amount to $30,000, $40,000, or even $50,000 per year. However, if the property is classified as a parsonage, you are exempted from paying property taxes on that home. The $50,000 saved could instead be used to pay the salary of an elementary school teacher in your local public school.”

The exemption from property taxes on homes owned by churches and ministries is regulated by state laws. It should not be confused with the parsonage housing allowance, which was established by Congress and provides a tax exemption from federal income tax.

It is important to note that Jesus did not dress in a suit and tie or wear a Rolex watch. He did not possess a house, car, horse, or camel. However, certain pastors are preaching the “prosperity gospel,” which distorts the true essence of the gospel.
