There is no direct mention of pedophilia in the Bible. But, there are numerous biblical principles that definitely apply to this sin. One such principle is the Bible’s view of the sin of fornication. The word translated “fornication” has the same idea in both the Hebrew and the Greek. The Greek word is porneia, from which we get the English words porno and pornography. The word in Scripture refers to any illicit sexual activity, and this would have to include the abhorrent acts of a pedophile—including the gathering and trading of obscene or indecent pictures of young children. People who use this type of pornography usually graduate from looking to actually doing, bringing great harm to children. Fornication is among the “lusts of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16–21) and among the evil things that come from the heart of a man apart from God (Mark 7:21–23).
Pedophiles share the characteristic of being “without natural affection” (Romans 1:31; 2 Timothy 3:2). The phrase “without natural affection” is translated from one Greek word, which means “inhuman, unloving, and unsociable.” One without natural affection acts in ways that are against the social norm. This would certainly describe a pedophile.
Victim of Hillsong Church founder’s father says childhood was destroyed by sexual abuse
to influence the world with good. It was founded by the telegenic and usually talkative Brian Houston. But he didn’t want anything to do with this story reported by Liz Hayes, and that’s because it’s about evil – the most un-Christian behaviour imaginable, and his own father, Frank Houston. He too was a high-profile church leader, one who used his position and influence to abuse children. One of his victims was Brett Sengstock, who because of Houston’s depravity has endured a life of misery, hiding in the shadows. But not any longer.

A former teacher at The Southport School on the Gold Coast claims that when she and other parents complained about a teacher interfering sexually with their children, they were dismissed.
Mary, not her real name, told Australia’s number one podcast The Lady Vanishes she was stunned when, in 1988, her six-year-old son told her that Mr Houston, a teacher at TSS, had touched him.
“Mr Houston would sit them on his knee and put his hand down their pants and fiddle with them,” Mary said.
“There were about eight boys and the school denied it when parents put their names forward.”
Brian George Houston – not to be confused with Pastor Brian Houston, the founder of Hillsong Church – was a registered teacher in Queensland from 1978 to 1997.
Following complaints from a group of parents who accused him of inappropriately touching their children, he left the school.
“My son was one of the boys who was, I suppose, molested… indecently touched by Mr Houston,” Mary said.
“I complained to the school and they did nothing.
“I made complaints about it and wanted counselling for my son and asked the school to pay for it.
“But the school wouldn’t pay because that would be admitting something on their part.
“I had to have him counselled because he wouldn’t leave my side for quite a long time.”
‘I made complaints about it and wanted counselling for my son…’
Mary said she was horrified when, six months after her initial complaint, Houston reappeared at TSS assisting with classes.
He was never reported to the police and has since died.
Mary says she and the other parents initially told the Chaplain at TSS, Reverend Jim Stonier.
“There was a group of parents, I think there were about four or five boys, they decided they didn’t want to put the school into disrepute, so they didn’t take it any further so it was wiped under the carpet,” Mary said.
This is one of several claims of child sex abuse which have emerged involving students and teachers at the prestigious boy’s school, where missing woman Marion Barter worked as a teacher up until her disappearance in 1997.
Marion ran the reception class at The Southport School on the Gold Coast and was universally lauded before she abruptly quit, giving just four days’ notice, before embarking on a European holiday.
Mary believes there was a problem with paedophile teachers at TSS.
“I really loved working there – loved the boys – I loved working at the junior school, it was great, but it did have a few problems,” Mary said.
“The school denied it when parents put their names forward.
“I indirectly thought I would lose my job if I did anything else about it.”
Mary, who is still teaching, says she regrets not having done more at the time.
“If I knew what I know now and had my life experience behind me, I would’ve definitely done something about it,” she said.
Episode 7 of The Lady Vanishes podcast also names another teacher at The Southport School accused of paedophilia by his son.
Andrew Morse says his father Ron, who is now dead, confessed to him in the early 1990s that he and other teachers had molested boys at the Southport School.
Ron Morse was a respected leader at TSS who served as Master of Grade 8 and was at the school for 38 years.
His son Andrew claims he also reported his allegations to Queensland Police and Reverend Stonier but, like Mary, says he was fobbed off and the claims were never investigated.
Greg Wain, the principal of The Southport School, did not respond to questions put to him by the investigative team at The Lady Vanishes.
The Southport School is one of Queensland’s most prestigious boys’ schools, with alumni including former world number one golfer Adam Scott and Rugby League and Union star Mat Rogers.
In response to the new historical child sex abuse allegations, the Anglican Church of Southern Queensland issued a statement.
“The Anglican Church urged anyone who suffered sexual abuse in any Anglican school or parish to report the matter to the police and/or to contact the Anglican Church Southern Queensland Office of Professional Standards to receive the assistance, support and care that they require,” the statement said.
“We regard any professional misconduct or claims of sex abuse as a serious matter and in recent years we have strengthened considerably the policies and procedures that are followed when misconduct is reported.
“Student protection is a key responsibility of each Anglican School in Southern Queensland.
“Schools, working together with the Diocese, have in recent years achieved a consistent student protection policy and framework which exceeds community standards and expectations.
“Anyone with claims of sexual abuse can seek redress – through the National Redress Scheme – from the Anglican Church Southern Queensland, which is a registered scheme participant.”
‘Anyone with claims of sexual abuse can seek redress … from the Anglican Church Southern Queensland.’
The Lady Vanishes is a 7NEWS podcast investigating the disappearance of Marion Barter, the ex-wife of Socceroo great Johnny Warren.
Marion vanished in 1997 at the age of 51 after selling her home and flying to the UK for a year-long holiday.
The circumstances of her disappearance and the bizarre and conflicting evidence about her movements and actions have baffled police and her family for more than two decades.
How to help

In addition, there is a principle found in Jesus’ words about children. Jesus used a child to teach His disciples that childlike faith is necessary for entrance into the kingdom of heaven. At the same time, He said that the Father has concern for all of His “little ones” (Matthew 18:1–14). In that passage, Jesus says, “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:6, KJV). The word offend in the Greek means “to cause one to stumble, to put a stumbling block or impediment in the way, upon which another may trip and fall, to entice to sin, or to cause a person to begin to distrust and desert one whom he ought to trust and obey.”
These definitions of the word offend can easily be applied to the actions of a pedophile. Of course, the principle of not harming a child can be applied to a wide range of child-abusive actions, and Matthew 18:10makes the case against anyone who would bring any type of harm to a child.
It is impossible to find anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies and was not hated.
