HNewsWire-British police are pushing for more powers to enforce the coronavirus lockdown regulations, including the ability to enter private premises suspected of holding prohibited meetings.

Under present legislation, police may only enter a private house with a warrant, with the agreement of the resident, in active pursuit of a suspected criminal, to investigate a disturbance, or if they hear screams for aid. However, the Police Federation of England and Wales is asking the government for harsh, unprecedented powers to enable police to enter individuals' houses without a warrant in order to prohibit suspected house parties during the coronavirus epidemic.

"We have requested that they consider granting us authority over private meetings or gatherings in a private house." "We have no jurisdiction to enter a residence and say, 'Stop holding a party,'" a source from the police union told The Telegraph.

France has become the first government in the world to publicly call on Silicon Valley digital behemoths to eliminate privacy safeguards during the Chinese coronavirus outbreak in order to implement a "sovereign European health solution" that would monitor residents' movements.

Despite other competing global issues such as war, starvation, floods, inflation, and increasing energy costs, the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) is adamant that coronavirus must stay at the forefront of public attention.

The French government hopes to release a contact tracking app by May 11th, when the country is set to relax national lockdown restrictions imposed in March.

France and the European Union as a whole have advocated for a centralized approach to citizen tracking, with data held on government computers and monitored by state health services.

Apple's operating system now prevents such a method since its Bluetooth feature prohibits continual background monitoring if the data is to be transported off the device. According to France, this privacy safeguard would prohibit the government from building its contact tracking software.

"We're asking Apple to remove the technological barrier so that we can establish a sovereign European health solution that will be linked to our health system," Cédric O, France's digital minister, told Bloomberg News.

The Google and Apple system, which will be accessible globally next month, will adopt a decentralized approach to tracking, with data staying on a user's phone rather than being gathered in a central server.

The European Union has insisted that contact tracking applications be optional, safeguard individual privacy, and be dismantled once epidemic limitations are relaxed. A group of almost 300 privacy experts, however, warns that the applications might be used to establish a surveillance state.

"We are afraid that solution's' to the crisis may end in systems that enable unprecedented monitoring of society at large," the group stated in an open letter.

"Some Bluetooth-based approaches respect the individual's right to privacy, while others would permit a kind of government or private sector monitoring that would severely undermine faith in and adoption of such an application by society at large," the group noted.

"We advise all nations to depend solely on systems that are available to public inspection and are privacy-preserving by design (rather than expecting them to be maintained by a trustworthy party) to guarantee that citizens' data protection rights are respected," the group said.

Later this month, France's parliament will examine the contact tracking app, and European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services Thierry Breton assured the French Senate that he will discuss the issue with Apple CEO Tim Cook.
