State Dept Contradicts Biden, Says Vast Majority Of Interpreters & Visa-Eligible Afghans Were “Left Behind”

A stunning new exposé in The Wall Street Journal contradicts just about everything the American public has been told over the past week about the supposed “extraordinary success” of America’s “largest airlift in history”. 

“The US left behind the majority of Afghan interpreters and others who applied for visas to flee Afghanistan, a senior State Department official said on Wednesday,” according to the WSJ report, which emphasizes that “as many as 100,000 Afghans may be eligible for relocation” – but the vast majority of these were left behind.

Specifically the numbers relate to those local allies who qualified for the Special Immigrant Visa. The Pentagon as of last Friday said it up to that point it had been able to only get about 7,000 Special Immigrant Visa Afghans out.

But according to The Wall Street Journal: 

Over 20,000 Afghans who had applied for the Special Immigrant Visa program remained in Afghanistan when Kabul fell to the Taliban on Aug. 15, according to advocacy groups and congressional officials.

Including their family members, as many as 100,000 Afghans may be eligible for relocation.

The anonymous State Department official was asked to estimate how many remain trapped inside the country despite their eligibility based on a number of special visa programs: “I would say it’s the majority of them,” the official stated bluntly. “Just based on anecdotal information about the populations we were able to support.”

“Everybody who lived it is haunted by the choices we had to make and by the people we were not able to help,” the official added.

In the domino-effect of errors that plagued the last ten days of the evacuation operation, the thousands of Afghans crowding airport entrances often blocked the ability of others, including visa applicants and even Americans, from reaching US checkpoints. In other instances they were also blocked by the Taliban long before reaching the vicinity of the airport perimeter. 

This despite “every credential we tried to provide electronically was immediately disseminated to the widest possible pool” – according to the US official. But clearly the prospect of physically getting to within close distance of a US checkpoint amid the mass crush at the airport proved elusive and disastrous for most. ZeroHedge

“We Are F**king Abandoning American Citizens” Says Livid Army Colonel In Leaked Afghanistan Texts

Encrypted text messages between an Army colonel and a former Special Forces soldier working on a private effort to extricate stranded Americans from Afghanistan reveal that the US evacuation was anything but the ‘extraordinary success’ President Biden declared on Tuesday.

“We are fucking abandoning American citizens,” said an Army colonel assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in an encrypted Sunday text message to Michael Yon, who revealed the message to Just the News.

Yon told Just the News that a group of Americans were abandoned at the Kabul airport, pleading for help as military officials told them they were finished with evacuations.

“We had them out there waving their passport screaming, ‘I’m American,'” Yon said Tuesday while appearing on the John Solomon Reports podcast. -Just The News

“People were turned away from the gate by our own Army,” said Yon, the former Special Forces soldier and war correspondent.

Yon’s account, which he shared with JTN’s John Solomon, is backed by three dozen text and email exchanges with frontline Army officials in Afghanistan.

The stranded Americans eventually scattered to safe houses to avoid capture by the Taliban, after which Yon wrote a ‘stinging email’ to an Army major whose team abandoned the rescue effort.

“You guys left American citizens at the gate of the Kabul airport,” wrote Yon on Tuesday. “Three empty jets paid for by volunteers were waiting for them. You and I talked on the phone. I told you where they were. Gave you their passport images. And my email and phone number. And you left them behind.”

“Great job saving yourselves. Probably get a lot of medals,” he added.

While the helper group worked frantically to get the Americans through the gate, members texted one another to say they had seen National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on CNN saying that neither he nor U.S. Central Command chief Gen. Kenneth McKenzie were told that Americans were abandoned.

“Hey did they end up just taking off?” one correspondent texted the helper group. “Because the National Security Advisor just told Tapper that neither he nor McKenzie had heard anything about Americans being left at the gates.” 

The correspondent noted that the private group heard differently from a lieutenant colonel (O-5): “Given we had comms with an O-5 on the ground, that means CENTCOM C3 is s–t, or someone is lying.”

According to the private rescue effort, the US Army was told by the State Department not to rescue the Americans.

“We get them to the gate, and the U.S. Army completely fails this saying, ‘Oh, we can’t do it, because the Department of the State tells us we can’t do it,” Yon told Just the News.

Update: 8/29/21 The heartbroken mom of one of the 13 US servicemen who were killed in Thursday’s terrorist attack in Kabul called into a radio show to express her feelings about the “unnecessary debacle” and blast President Biden for his actions.

“This was an unnecessary debacle that could have been handled properly,” Kathy McCollum, mother of deceased US Marine Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, told radio host Andrew Wilkow on Friday. 

“They had months and months to remove everyone from Afghanistan, and they chose not to. And so they sent in . . . 6,000 troops, and my son, through the laws of statistics, my son was one of the ones who just got blown up in a freaking terrorist bomb yesterday.”

But, the Gold Star mother was not done and could not hold back her fury reflecting the thoughts of many who looked on as the events of the last few weeks have unfolded.

“20 years and six months old. Getting ready to come home from freaking’ Jordan to be with his wife to watch the birth of his son. And that dementia ridden piece of crap just sent my son to die. I woke up at 4’o’clock this morning to marines at my door telling me my son was dead.”

“My son is gone, and I just want all you Democrats who cheated in the election, or who voted for him legitimately, you just killed my son,” she said. “With a dementia ridden piece of crap who doesn’t even know he’s in the White House who still thinks he’s a senator.“

The Colorado mom said she chose to voice her reaction publicly, as “I couldn’t just sit by idly because I think I need to process through anger instead of tears.”

McCollum isn’t the only Gold Star parent who has spoken critically of the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan. As RT reports, Steve Nikoui, father of deceased Marine Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that Thursday’s tragedy could have been prevented if the Pentagon ran evacuations through Bagram Airbase rather than abandoning that massive installation in July.

The Kabul airport “looked like a turkey shoot,” with traffic funneled through a narrow entry point, Steve Nikoui said. 

“It was just basically so chaotic and not really planned out,” he added.

And this comes a day after Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller was fired after demanding accountability for the “ineptitude” of senior leadership.
