As new gun control legislation moves from the United States House to the Senate, where enough Republican senators have indicated they would vote in favor of it, opponents argue that these regulations already exist and have not — and will not — prevent mass massacres.

On June 8, 2022, Lt. Col. Allen West spoke with NTD's Capitol Report.

Instead, history has proven that these laws would lead to Americans losing their right to carry guns, as well as making them submissive to the government and its tyranny, according to Lt. Col. Allen West.

During a recent interview with NTD's Capitol Report, West said that the Founding Fathers enacted the Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment because "they knew that an armed man may be a citizen, a disarmed one would be a subject."

With conversations over # GunRights reform heating up, how realistic are these # restrictions in reality, and where do the lines fall?

Lt. Col. Allen West provided NTD with his opinion.

"In every single case when the government, dictatorial, oppressive regimes, have banned private gun ownership, what do they end up doing?" West asked. He highlighted that Canada's progressive government has recently increased restrictions on the purchase of weapons, and he believes that the United States may follow suit.

According to West, the administrations of Adolf Hitler in Germany and Hugo Chávez in Venezuela took away gun rights before cracking down on residents, eliminating more of their rights, and murdering their own countrymen.

The Democrats' new package includes a contentious provision that would establish a universal background check system, although West claims that most states already have background check laws. So, except for the rights of those who lawfully possess weapons, writing them down would not alter anything.
