Watchman: Daily Devotional, In Luke 18, Jesus Told a Parable to People Who Trusted in Their Own Self-Righteousness. He Said, “Two Men Went Up Into the Temple to Pray, One a Pharisee and the Other a Tax-Gatherer

The Pharisee (Elitist of Today) stood and was praying thus to himself, 'God, I thank Thee that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax-gatherer. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.' "But the tax-gatherer (True Christian of Today), standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'

Jesus recounted a story in Luke 18 directed at those who put their faith in their own moral deeds. His words were, "One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector, and they both ascended to the Temple Mount to pray. The Pharisee stood and said, "God, I thank Thee that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax-gatherer. I give God half of my income in tithes and fast twice a week.

But the tax collector, who stood a safe distance away, still refused to raise his eyes to heaven while thumping his chest and pleading, "God, be compassionate to me, the sinner!""

For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted, Jesus said. "I tell you, this man walked back to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted" (vv. 10–14).

We have no way into God's presence except from God's grace. The tax collector was aware of this, and he begged pardon. However, the Pharisee missed the message and left without being pardoned.

Taking a cue from the tax collector, Daniel humbly and humbly addressed God. It never occurred to him to thank God for his many years of service in Babylon. He was well aware of the fact that he could offer God nothing good from within himself. All he wanted was forgiveness, for himself and his people, so that God's plans could be accomplished.

As a follower of Christ, you have the amazing opportunity to approach God "with a sincere heart in full certainty of trust" (Heb. 10:22). There is no room for arrogance or self-righteousness in light of the fact that this privilege originates in God's favor via Christ's sacrifice. During praying, it's important to have a level head and not let a Pharisaic outlook creep in.

Remember Psalm 117:1–118:1 as a hymn of praise to the Lord and recite it often.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

The Great Tribulation

It is our belief that the Great Tribulation referred to in the New Testament Book of Revelation (chapters 6-11) is unfolding before our eyes. In the near future, we will devote the "Tribulation" tab on our "Trending" menu to this emerging reality. As people continue to unplug from mainstream media, our commitment is to present the truth and encourage our audience to understand current events from a Biblical perspective. The Watchman

In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
