LGBTQ folks who lean liberal Explore the Second Amendment amidst concerns about being placed in ‘camps’ by Trump.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, it seems that some LGBTQ liberals are purchasing firearms because they’re worried about the possibility of being rounded up and put in “concentration camps” with the new Trump administration coming in.
So, it turns out that some new gun-toting groups, like the Liberal Gun Club, the Socialist Rifle Association, and Pink Pistols, are saying they’ve gotten “thousands” of requests for firearm training since Trump won the 2024 election.
“Three months before the election, that’s when the alarm bells started to ring,” a 24-year-old transgender activist shared with the outlet, mentioning that armed leftists will now be ready to respond “in the event of hate crimes or terrorist attacks.”
The activist mentioned that minorities ought to take their Second Amendment rights seriously, pointing out that “armed minorities are harder to legally oppress.”
Matthew Thompson, who leans left, shared that he bought his first gun back in 2016, right after Trump got elected for the first time. He mentioned that the tragic mass shooting at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, had a bigger impact on his decision.
“You know, the folks I’ve noticed on the Left, along with the LGBTQ community, are buying guns for the first time. It really seems to be driven by self-defense and a bit of fear,” he said. “We’re not planning to gear up and charge the [U.S. Capitol]. We really just don’t want to end up in concentration camps.
Trump hasn’t indicated at any point that he’s against the LGBTQ community.
Interestingly, Trump was the first Republican nominee to bring up LGBTQ issues during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention back in 2016, right after the Pulse nightclub shooting.
“Thanks a lot to the LGBT community!” “I’ll fight for you,” Trump said back then. It seems like LGBT leftists aren’t the only ones with some pretty wild ideas about being rounded up in Trump’s scenarios.
Rep. Debbie Dingell from Michigan made a pretty strange claim last year, suggesting that she could find herself locked up in one of Trump’s supposed “internment camps.” “I get pretty anxious when he starts discussing what he plans to do to his political foes, and he’s mentioned them in front of various groups,” she said.
