GEARING UP WITH RIFLES, RIOT SHIELDS AT THE CAPITOL…

Update (1550 ET): Following the pipe bombs that were placed at Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee headquarters last week and the emerging threat that armed extremists could attack the US Capitol ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20, Politico reports National Guard units have been briefed to prepare for the very real possibility that extremists could use improvised explosive devices.

Update (1521 ET): Images are pouring in on social media of a huge presence of National Guard members on Capitol grounds. 

As we noted earlier, many of these guardsmen are being armed with M4 carbines and riot shields – preparing for the worst.

Update (1232 ET): Buzz Feed’s Paul McLeod reports, “about 3,000 total national guard troops sheltering in the Capitol right now.”

This is nothing less than a logistical nightmare as thousands of guardsmen had no folding cots to sleep on.

Update (1208 ET): Moments ago, Acting Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee said the National Guard is boosting the numbers of guardsmen around the Capitol complex to more than 20,000. 

“With respect to the National Guard, those numbers, the final numbers – because this has been designated as a national special security event, the final numbers will be provided from the United States Secret Service,” Contee told reporters. “I think you can expect to see somewhere upwards beyond 20,000 members of the National Guard that will be here in the footprint of the District of Columbia.” he said.

This is a substantial increase from over the weekend when 6,000 were deployed. The number was increased to a total of 15,000 on Monday. 

Now, more than 20,000 guardsmen are expected to be armed and patrolling the Capitol grounds. It makes us wonder how large is the threat ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.

Last week, the Associated Press, citing the Secretary of the Army, said National Guard troops in the Washington Metropolitan Area, especially around the Capitol complex, could carry assault rifles and pistols though the decision was under review. 

Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The AP Friday that the military could let guardsmen carry M-4 rifles or 9 mm Berettas in a few days.

Dozens of pictures of guardsmen sleeping inside the Capitol were armed with what appears to be M-4 rifles by their sides. This comes after days of unarmed guardsmen seen around the Capitol earlier this week. 

Some of the pictures are stunning – with lawmakers walking halls of the Capitol with guardsmen asleep on the floor next to their assault rifles.

This means that the military has given the orders to arm guardsmen ahead of what could be chaos during President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.

We noted this morning that the FBI is racing to track down hardcore insurrectionists that could be preparing for a fight next week. 

With one week to go until America’s political elite gather at the Capitol grounds for Joe Biden’s inauguration, federal agents are racing to track hardcore insurrectionists, according to Financial Times. 

Still, the FBI has no idea who planted two pipe bombs outside the Washington headquarters of the Republican and Democratic parties during the day Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building.

The feds fear hardcore insurrectionists remain at large within the Washington Metropolitan Area that may incite violence ahead or during President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.

“Many of Us will return on Jan 19, 2021, carrying Our weapons, in support of Our nation’s resolve, to which [sic] the world will never forget!!! We will come in numbers that no standing army or police agency can match,” wrote NBC, who was quoting a popular Parler (Paler is now extinct) account that frequently posts about QAnon.

Joanna Mendelson, associate director at the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism, told FT that “calls for violence against law enforcement and encouragement to armed struggle . . . and warnings to get ready because this is only a taste of what’s to come.”

The Feds have opened more than 170 cases on pro-Trump supporters who were caught on camera raiding the Capitol. Many of them have been arrested and charged with trespassing to sedition.

In response, the National Guard has deployed thousands of guardsmen in the metro area, especially around the Capitol complex. A metal perimeter fence has been erected around the entire facility to deter violent protesters from entering. 

On Tuesday, Gen. Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, significantly upped the number of guardsmen to the Capitol from 6,000 to 15,000. A move that would only suggest credible threats lingered ahead of Joe Biden’s Inauguration.

“There is growing concern that violent extremists are emboldened by the breach of the Capitol, which means the clock is ticking on taking down the most influential incites of violence before they act again,” said Frank Figliuzzi, former FBI assistant director and NBC News security analyst.

The National Park Service, which processes permits for the metro area, told NBC that multiple First Amendment rallies overlap the inauguration date. 

Megan Squire, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center who studies online extremism, told FT that extremists would be focused on Biden next week. 

“On Jan 6, their energy was focused on Congress. On the 20th, their energy will be focused on Biden. That’s concerning, especially since they’re not remorseful or ashamed. Right now it looks not great,” Squire said.

“They would love to disrupt the inauguration – they’re violent revolutionaries who wish to kill their enemies,” warned Mike Rains, who operates Adventures in HellwQrld, a podcast centered around QAnon.

“They’d love it if the coup had gone better.”

Days after the presidential election, Oath Keepers militia leader Stewart Rhodes told Infowar’s Alex Jones and Owen Shroyer that armed members of his militia are positioned around the metro area.
