Edward O’Hara Tue 12/31/2019 1:21 PM…

In our last study we left off with the question; But, what about the people that God destroyed in the flood? Or at Sodom and Gemorah? Weren’t these punished by God for their sins? Isn’t that the imputation of sin? The short answer is no. Because there are a couple of reasons given in the Bible for why this happened. And none of these is said to be because of imputed sin. In some instances, it was because those that God destroyed were not really human people at all. Like when God flooded the earth. Because in Gen.6 we see that God says the only people who were perfect in their generations/genealogy were Noah. And the rest had been affected by the DNA change because of the marriages that had been going on between the b’ nai elohim and the daughters of men. Which produced “giants”/nephilim. Gen.6:1-9. A human and fallen angel hybrid that if allowed to continue would have rid the world of all human flesh.

Was this always why God destroyed people or had them destroyed before the law came through Moses? No. But, when God did this to humans it was always to save mankind from being overtaken in the fulness of the iniquity of the nations around Israel. This is why when God sent Israel to destroy a nation around them they were not allowed by God to do so until their iniquity was full. Even telling Abraham “But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.”Gen.15:16. Making it plain that this threshold must be met for God before He would allow Israel to destroy them.

Covenant part 2 (Noahic)

So Sodom and Gemorah and the flood were not an imputation of penalty for sins that are only required under the law. It is rather to save the part of mankind that hasn’t come to the fullness of iniquity from being fully corrupted with those who were. Just as when God saved mankind from sure annihilation when He flooded the earth. So His destruction of those before the law came through Moses was to save mankind. Not to destroy them. This was necessary to keep mankind as a fully human race so that the Messiah could be fully human(Heb.2:14). This had to be done to provide the circumstances for the prophecy regarding the seed of the woman vs. the seed of the serpent in Gen.3:15 to be fulfilled.

And even under the law, the purpose of its penalties were to save Israel as a people so that 1. they would be an example for the world of who the true God is by His making His power known through them, and 2. so that they would be around to bring the promised Messiah through their bloodline.

So we see that even under the law the penalty that was applied because of imputed sin was for their deliverance. And not for their annihilation or punishment. This is true because God is love just as John said in 1John4:7,8. And because He is love He is always acting as a deliverer for mankind. To deliver them from those who would oppress them. Just as He said He appointed Judges in Israel to do in judges2:16. “Nevertheless the Lord raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.” This is also why Paul said, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”Rom.2:4.

This then is why Paul said there was no law until Moses and therefore no imputation of sin then either. This also means that the written law vs moral law argument that some make is moot according to Paul. Because when push comes to shove the moral law is exactly the same as the written law. And Paul says it only came into existence for mankind when God gave it to Moses. And that until it did sin was not imputed.

So we have seen now that the fact that the law was missing before Moses means that sin was not imputed, and what that really means in regard to the atonement. That because Adam’s sin was not imputed to anyone there is no need for the cleansing of that sin by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. Regardless of how some read into the scriptures their sin nature preconceived notions about a false inherent and imputed sin of Adam. It is so sad that so many who call themselves Christians not only believe those alive before Moses was punished for their sins. But, it is sadder still that they have also wrongly believed that all mankind has been punished with death for Adam’s sin. When the Bible plainly says they were not(Rom.5:13).

And if this key fact has managed to elude so many, the question must be asked, are there other things the scripture says was missing in those days that causes many to interpret the scriptures concerning the need for the atonement differently than they should? The answer is a resounding YES! And we will continue with this in my next article.

If you are reading this God is calling you. He loves you and wants you to know Him. Because knowing Him is eternal life.John17:3. So if you do not know Him please take the time right now to pray and confess Jesus as Lord of your life. And believe that He has raised from the dead. In doing this and really meaning it you will be saved from death to life. From sin to righteousness. And from the wrath to peace with God. Because when you trust in Jesus you leave the old life behind where you trusted in idols, and now trust in Jesus who Himself is the only WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE.

The light went out in the church, and that’s the reason the world got dark. Dark times were perpetuated by the “last one out, turn out the lights” “The church lights have gone OUT”.

The Lukewarm Christian
There are numerous pathetic souls who, though they have not severed formal fellowship ties with a local church, nonetheless are so spiritually apathetic as to be practical enemies of the Lord.

The Bible plainly states in the New Testament, in Jude 1:7…
“Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange (Greek: different, other) flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”

Amen Patrick. And Amen Dave. The Bible becomes so simple when we believe what it plainly says.
