A "privilege" list released on Thursday by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity (DEI) at Johns Hopkins Medicine sparked outrage and was swiftly retracted.

An unearthed newsletter from Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Sherita H. Golden on the January 2024 issue of Monthly Diversity Digest was made public by the @EndWokeness X account. The message featured a number of descriptions deemed "privileged" along with "privilege" as the "Diversity Word of the Month."

"An undeserved favor bestowed upon members of a certain social group is known as privilege. Members of dominant groups receive benefits and privileges at the expense of members of other groups on a personal, interpersonal, cultural, and institutional level, according to the newsletter. ‘People in dominant groups sometimes believe they have earned the rights they enjoy or that everyone could have access to these privileges if only they worked to obtain them.

"In actuality, privileges are bestowed upon members of dominant groups without their consent or expressed desire," as the saying goes.

Elon Musk was among those who denounced the comments, tweeting, "This has to stop!"

At Harvard, MIT, and Penn (my alma college), Donald Trump Jr. declared, "The rot and racism in higher education goes so much further. It has taken over virtually every institution and needs to end now."

Staff members received an apology from Golden this morning after the tweet went viral on Twitter.
