Some people are confused about what is God’s sovereign will. So much so that some think that it means He forces His will upon us so that we are saved because He willed it. And that we are also not saved because He willed it. Even going so far as to believe that everything we do or say has already been predetermined by God that we would say and do it.
But, if this is true then God can not be love as 1John4:7,8 tells us He is. And He can not have given His only begotten Son in sacrifice because of His love for the world as John3:16 says He did. And Joshua must have gotten it wrong when he spoke to Israel in Joshua24:15 saying they must themselves choose the true God or false god they will believe in and serve. So this position is and always has been untenable in relation to what the Bible actually says.
What we do know about God’s sovereign will from the writings of the apostles and prophets, and even Jesus Himself, is that it is God’s sovereign will that none should perish, as we see in 2Peter3:9. But, that all men will be saved. Now to me that seems like it should be enough to make even the most ardent Calvinist, which is in actuality an Augustinian, turn from his folly to the truth of free will.
And since it is true that God’s sovereign will is that none should perish. And we know from what Jesus tells us that it is also true that most men will not be saved as He said “narrow is the way that leads to life and few there be that find it. And wide is the road that leads to destruction and many there be that go in there at”. Then we must conclude that there is another mechanism at work here that these Calvinists in their Gnosticism have foolishly rejected.
Because in God’s sovereign will He wills that no one should perish. And yet we see Jesus saying most will. Which means God’s sovereign will must be that He has decided that it would be by man’s free will he receives the gift of salvation God provided in Jesus. And not only by God’s sovereign will that all men will be saved.
This is antithetical to the teachings of Augustine, Luther, and Calvin. And all who follow their strong delusion. Whose belief in original sin and sin nature causes them to reject sound doctrine. Because everything they come to believe about God and Jesus and the atonement proceeds out of their belief in original sin and sin nature doctrine. That are doctrines that are therefore themselves antithetical to God’s sovereign will.
Antithetical because these false doctrines state plainly that because God’s sovereign will predetermines who will and who will not be saved. There are babies in hell on account of God predetermining that they end up there. And this through no fault or choice of their own. And that men sin through no fault or choice of their own, and suffer the fires of hell as punishment for being and doing what God made them to be and do. Based upon their working assumptions regarding what is the sovereignty of God.
And all this they say is good because God is good. And as the determiner of what is good, determined that sending people to hell through no fault or choosing of their own, is good.
So ignoring the fact that it is God’s will that none should perish. They myopically focus on their definition of the words sovereign and predestined. And in doing so make a mockery of all the Biblical teaching that tells us that God is love. And what that love looks like.
Because they make God’s unconditional love subordinate to His sovereignty. Rather than bringing His sovereignty and His love together as one in a cohesive way as the Bible does by expressing the role both play in man’s salvation. A role both must take part in because without love there can be no salvation as it is defined in the Bible.
A salvation that is defined by a relationship that is based on God’s love for man. And man’s response of faith toward God. So that sovereignly God’s love provides salvation for man through man’s trust in that love. The love that Paul said never fails. The love that John said is who God is. And not just something He does in subordination to their perverted idea of His sovereignty.
As Roger Olson says in his article “Why Calvinism’s Logic About God’s Goodness Fails”, “Calvinism can only be possible IF it relies on what is called theistic voluntarism—the belief that WHATEVER GOD DOES IS GOOD JUST BECAUSE GOD DOES IT. In other words, “good” means something entirely different in God than in humans. In fact, there is no analogy. The word “good” becomes equivocal, when applied to God.”
How can God tell man that the good he should do is a good that does what is best for the other person as in do unto others? When according to the Calvinist when good is applied to God it more often than not has the opposite definition? So that good when God does it is doing what is the worst possible thing for the other person. By making him for and sending him to hell.
For example, In the Bible God tells man that the good he is to do is that he love God and others even as he is loved by God. But, if God has predetermined for the man to go to hell then for him wouldn’t the good he has been shown by God cause him to actually do harm to the other person?
He also tells Israel do unto others as you would have men do to you. These are the good God would have men do in regard to their relationships with one another. Jesus even telling Israel that this shows that you are children of your Father which is in heaven.
So how is it possible for God to be good in this context when He does not Himself do the things He says are good for most of the people He created? It’s not. And this is why Calvinism, a teaching derived from the gnostic pagan doctrine of original sin and sin nature, can not either be true, or good in any Biblical sense of the word.
Therefore Calvinism, which as I have shown in many of my messages is actually a derivation of Augustine’s teachings, teaches men to believe in a god that is not the God of the Bible. But, is in fact more akin to the false god Moloch. Who hates his followers so much that he demands the bloody and torturous sacrifice of the innocent to appease his wrath against them. Destroying the innocent at a whim because in reality he hates all men.
Calvinism’s teaching therefore is of a different god, and different Jesus, and a different atonement from that which is found in the writings of the prophets, the apostles, and Jesus. So different in fact that it leaves one wondering why anyone who actually reads the Bible would trust in this capricious and indifferent being the Calvinist calls god.
By believing his message they can not even know they are saved. Because there is no objective means by which to know one is saved because your free will is not involved. And because the Calvinist is taught that this god may be tricking them into believing they are saved. Only to pull the rug out from under them on judgment day. They actually believe this.
This is why those who have been exposed to Calvinism must reject its premise and everything that comes after. Because only by trusting in the God whose sovereign will is that none should perish, and all men would be saved. A sovereign will that has made a way for man’s free will to complete the circuit that brings us into a loving relationship with our Creator. A loving relationship the scripture calls righteousness. Will we have the gift of eternal life that Jesus came to provide for every man that has ever lived.
And if you want this life that comes because of God’s love for every man He has ever created. The kind of love that Jesus showed by His sacrifice of joining with all men in mortality. So that we can by our free will join with Him in immortality and eternal life.
To have this life that Jesus has for you Paul says you must confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus. And believe in your heart that He has raised from the dead. Because it is with the heart man believes and is righteous. And through confession he is saved.
If you will do this then you will have eternal life. If you will do this then a spirit will be created in you that makes you God’s child and heir to His kingdom just as Jesus said in John3:1-8. If you will do this… then I will see you there or in the air!
