Conflict of Interest at the UN Prevents Liberation of Those Persecuted in China.

According to whistleblower Emma Reilly, the United Nations (UN) ignores the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) human rights violations because of Beijing’s diplomatic and financial might.

Reilly, a human rights lawyer and former United Nations staffer, said on Epoch TV’s “China Insider” show on Feb. 9.”There is an actual policy that the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the secretary general and various other senior officials, do not meet … with Uyghurs, Tibetans, Taiwanese, Falun Gong, anyone that might upset China, ” 

Reilly is a whistleblower who revealed that the United Nations’ Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) had given the Chinese authorities the names of dissidents and human rights advocates, in violation of the Human Rights Council’s regulations for their protection.

“This obviously led in the Chinese government sending police to people’s homes, arresting people’s family members, and being forced… to tell them… about their international activism,” Reilly added. “Some very horrifying torture accounts have surfaced.”

Reilly, who worked at the UN’s Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights, reported the practice to her supervisors and other UN departments in 2013, but to no avail. As a result, she alleged, she was subjected to retaliation and attempts to silence her at the United Nations, and she was eventually sacked in November 2021.

The incident arose amid growing fears about the CCP’s expanding power at the United Nations.

The United Nations, according to Reilly, has been dragging its feet on a report on China’s human rights violations against Uyghurs in Xinjiang’s far western province. The OHCHRC said in December that it wanted to release its report in the coming weeks and that long-running talks with Chinese officials over a proposed visit had made “no real progress.”

Reilly, on the other hand, argues that the visit is not required to complete the report.

“There is enough evidence outside of China to designate the Uyghur genocide a genocide.” The Uyghur tribunal as well as a number of parliaments declared genocide. “The evidence is quite obvious, especially when it comes to things like… forceful sterilization of large groups of people,” she remarked.

Human rights organizations and various countries have called the CCP’s campaign against Uyghurs in Xinjiang genocide. This contains the historical and present administrations of the United States, as well as the parliaments of Canada, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom.

The Uyghur Tribunal, an independent people’s court, declared in December that the Chinese authorities had perpetrated genocide against ethnic Muslim minority in Xinjiang, citing a slew of repressive measures including as mass detention, family separation, sterilization, and forced labor.

“I believe that the genocide is well underway… “If you’re the Secretary General of the United Nations, maybe beg for the genocide to end rather than just a guided tour of it,” Reilly suggested.

According to the whistleblower, the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights aim to avoid criticizing China. She said that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has not released any reports on China, nor has she condemned human rights violations against Uyghurs or Falun Gong, a spiritual practice whose practitioners have been punished by the CCP since 1999.

“If you look at a lot of the press publications that claim ‘the United Nations said this about China’s human rights record,’ it’s always an independent expert who said that.” So, it’s not a UN official; it’s a someone who is not affiliated with the UN but has been appointed as an expert in a certain field to look at it.” Reilly stated

The privileged treatment China receives from the international body, according to Reilly, is due to Beijing’s diplomatic and financial might.

According to the lawyer, Chinese diplomats often apply pressure on UN staff in an attempt to sway the content of their reports on human rights violations. She said that China will have advance access to the future Uyghur report before it was released.

In terms of financial clout, Reilly noted that nations that participate in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) prefer to speak out in favor of Beijing at the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, which has 47 members.

Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a vast infrastructure investment initiative aimed at increasing the CCP’s political and economic weight around the world. The strategy has drawn criticism in the West, with some describing it as “debt-trap diplomacy” that places unsustainable debt burdens on underdeveloped countries.

Reilly also questioned Bachelet’s neutrality when it came to China, pointing out that she was a regional representative for the Belt and Road Initiative when she was President of Chile. According to the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bachelet praised Beijing’s effort at a BRI forum in 2017.

“It’s not like she walked into the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and forgot about her past,” Reilly explained.

According to an article by Foreign Policy, senior United Nations officials have been pushing the BRI.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in particular, has praised BRI, noting the initiative’s “connection with the [UN] Sustainable Development Goals.”

In 2016, China struck an agreement with the United Nations, committing to invest $20 million yearly in the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund for the next ten years.

This pledge is a “slush fund, to promote the Belt and Road initiative, but as a jointly run [initiative] by Antonio Guterres office and the Chinese government.” according to Reilly.

“Now, they obviously think they’re getting something out of that. And I would suggest that that thing could be his silence,” she continued.

China’s international authority over impoverished nations has clouded the judgement of world leaders, and will no doubt result in economic asphyxiation. The only reason the west has anything to say about the matter is because of freedom loving individuals like us who aren’t so easily silenced by financial gain. The United Nations has never had the best interest of freedom loving citizens in mind. Clearly China doesn’t intend to stop its alarming economic developments, however one has to ask wether or not freedom loving individuals can make enough noise resulting in the end of persecution in China.

It should come as no surprise to anyone who pays attention to global politics that this is happening. However, one could speculate and say that tensions across the board are running higher than ever for the Chinese Communist Party. Something has got to give, America is no longer able to turn a blind eye from Xi’s power-trip due to the rapid spread of information in this digital age.

On Feb. 7, the Chinese authorities announced its first lockdown in the Chinese year of the Tiger as a means of containing a COVID-19 outbreak. Residents of the famed Communist base Baise in Guangxi Province have been warned not to leave their homes as of Monday.

The Baise city regime announced in a notice that the city was infected with the Omicron strain of the CCP virus.

“Nobody can leave or enter our city. We can’t leave home.”    On Feb. 7, Yun Fei, a resident of Baise’s Debao county, told the Chinese language Epoch Times that “all public transportation has stopped.”

“The atmosphere is intense [in Nanning]. Some roads are blocked, and the intercity buses have stopped,” said a resident called Zhao from Nanning, the province’s capital, which is 165 miles away from Baise. “Some residential compounds have started to test all residents [for COVID-19], and there are long lines in front of hospitals of people waiting for tests.”

“As an isolation tactic, the regime locks all citizens at home starting at 12:00 a.m. on February 7, 2022. The rule must be followed by all citizens. We will notify you when you can be unlocked, which will depend on the outbreak’s progress, ” the Baise city government said on Monday.

Starting in the early morning, no schools or training organizations are allowed to operate in the city, and all businesses are prohibited from operating except supermarkets, farmers’ markets, hospitals, and pharmacies.

Personnel working in pandemic control, health care, and medicine must apply for a special pass that allows them to travel throughout the city. These employees are unable to go from one county to another or from one township to another after acquiring the pass.

The notice made no indication of how trucks will be able to transport items from other counties and townships to Baise.

Following the lockdown, more residents were identified as COVID-19 patients’ close contacts and were taken to quarantine centers.

“Our hotel has been changed into a quarantine center, and will start to receive quarantined people tomorrow (Feb. 8),” a Kuaijie Hotel employee told the Chinese-language Epoch Times on Monday. “I have no idea how many people in our city have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or how many will be transferred here for quarantine tomorrow.”

In a phone interview, a representative from Baise’s Bama Airport announced that beginning February 8, all flights would be canceled.

According to the 2020 census, Baise has a population of 3.57 million people. The CCP staged successful riots in Baise in 1929, which aided the party’s takeover of the country in 1949. Since then, the city has served as a base for the CCP and is home to a number of tourism attractions.

As a result of COVID-19 outbreaks, the Chinese regime has shut down more areas.

Parts of Beijing, Tianjin, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou in southern China’s Guangdong Province, Heihe in northeastern China’s Heilongjiang Province, Hangzhou in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province, Yuzhou in central China’s Henan Province, and Hengshui in northern China’s Hebei Province were shut down on February 7. Guangxi, Guangdong, Beijing, and Tianjin have all detected local transmission.

We already know that Omicron is less virulent and more transmissible than the previous two variants outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. With that being said, herd immunity should be the objective of any politician that seeks to handle this situation without imposing tyranny on its citizens. However, as we know Xi Jinping is a totalitarian dictator that seeks to suppress dissidents and carry out the CCP’s agenda for world domination.
