DID YOU KNOW THERE’S ONLY ONE MIRACLE FOR WHICH JESUS CAME?- John3:1-17

If the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus wasn’t. And if His being born of a virgin wasn’t. Then what was it? Did you know that the most miraculous thing Jesus ever accomplished wasn’t until after He ascended to the clouds to sit at the Father’s right hand?

As miraculous as the things that happened to bring Him to earth as a man are the really big miracle about Jesus’ coming, the miracle for which God made everything that He has made, is the miracle that would create for the first time in all eternity a spiritual man. A miracle that only the power of His death could give power to in the creation of a New Covenant.

The fact that when a man trusts in Him and His resurrection he has created in him something that makes him different from all men that went before him in any other age or dispensation, is the greatest miracle Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection accomplished.

In John14:12 Jesus said greater miracles shall you do than I have done. And we are able to do this because through the indwelling Holy Spirit God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. A ministry that Paul tells us in 2Cor.5:19 in which believers tell the world that God is not imputing their trespasses to them.

Our ministry of reconciliation does not condemn men for their bad behavior. Any more than Jesus said He came to do in John3:17. Because it is not being bad that causes man’s need for Jesus to make them good. It is being made only flesh through our water birth from our mother’s womb that causes our need for His saving grace.

Because as Paul teaches in 1Cor.2:14 it’s the natural man, which is the man who is only flesh just like Adam was when he was made, that cannot perceive the things of the Spirit. And we must be able to perceive the things of the Spirit of God to be able to worship Him as Jesus said we must in spirit and in truth

This is why it’s no wonder that this was what Jesus intended to express in the first miracle He did. John 2 tells us about this saying in vs.11, “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.”

In this miracle He manifested forth His glory. Do you know what this means? It’s a reference to His glory as the first man who was also a spirit. And the only one who would be able to make men spiritual beings by trusting in Him and His resurrection because He is almighty God.

The first of many as men would believe in Him and His resurrection during this dispensation of the grace of God. An age when like no other that went before in which men would be made spiritual beings just like Jesus was when He came.

The difference being that because Jesus is God He has always been a spirit. And men being natural and not spiritual from the time Adam was made as Paul writes in 1Cor.15:45,46. We needed Jesus to come so that we could be born again of the Spirit of God to become God’s spiritual children.

This is why Paul writes that when a man puts his faith in Jesus he becomes what he refers to in 2Cor.5:17 as a “new creature”. He says “Old things have passed away behold all things are become new.” All things are new because by the creation of a spirit in us we become something that has never existed before.

And this is also why Jesus speaking of this “new creature” told Nicodemus that for him to enter the kingdom of God he must first be born again. Born not only of flesh that makes all men to be only flesh. But, also born of the Spirit so that he too would become spirit.

This is why the Bible makes it abundantly clear that if Adam had not eaten the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil God’s plan for mankind would never have been able to come to fruition. Because remaining in the garden would mean that Adam would remain only flesh. And not the spiritual being Jesus’ coming made possible. The kind of spiritual beings who alone can worship God in spirit and in truth.

So at this time when we reflect on why Jesus came, let’s really consider the awesomeness of the spiritual birth His coming made possible. And how by His coming fulfilling a whole series of other miracles that came to pass through the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. He made possible for many to experience the greatest miracle of all. The new creature. A natural man with a spirit created in him that joins him to God as His child.

And if you will trust in Him and His resurrection you will become a child of God too. And with the new year you too will be made something brand new.

In Rom.10:9,10 Paul said if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus. And believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead. You shall be saved.

Saved from natural to spiritual. Saved from mortal to immortal. And saved from unbelief that is the only sin Jesus said in John16:9 He would send the Holy Spirit to reprove unsaved man of.

You know why it’s the only sin the Holy Spirit reproves the world of? Because only the sin of unbelief can keep you from having eternal life and going to heaven.

Because in John17:3 Jesus said this about eternal life. He said, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

Believe in Jesus and His resurrection today and you will have eternal life now. And immortality at the resurrection. Do this and you will be made a child of God by the spirit He creates in you. Do this and you will receive an immortal body at the resurrection. Do this… and I will see you there or in the air!
