Watchman: Daily Devotional, When Jesus Told Them They Were Bad Trees, He Didn’t Hold Back. He Referred to Them as a Swarm of Baby Snakes. Their Statements Confound and Distort Reality, Leading the Seeking Spirit Astray. It Is What Their Hearts Desire. Have You Paid Attention to the Words That Leave Your Mouth?
Matthew 12:32-34 (NIV) 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. 33" Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speak.
On the Sabbath, Jesus had just healed a man's withered hand. According to religious elders, it was because the prince of demons assisted him. The crowd was taken aback and pondered if Jesus was "the Son of David." That was a reference to God's promise that David's son would reign forever.
Jesus was walking under the authority and guidance of the Holy Spirit. God spoke through him. He didn't do anything on his own. He added that speaking against me will be forgiven, but speaking against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. He mentioned fruit once more as the tree's unique feature. Under the control of the Prince of Devils, Jesus cannot go about doing good all the time. A person who exhibits the Holy Spirit's power by doing good and speaking the truth is linked to the wellspring of goodness. Reject his efforts, and you are condemning God's kindness as evidenced by the Holy Spirit's work.
When Jesus told them they were bad trees, he didn't hold back. He referred to them as a swarm of baby snakes. Their statements confound and distort reality, leading the seeking spirit astray. It is what their hearts desire. Have you paid attention to the words that leave your mouth? Are they truthful, loving, and in accordance with God's word and Spirit? Do they lead people to or away from Jesus? Do they nourish the seeking soul or draw the seeker away from Christ? Check your heart condition if your words bother you. Fill it with God's Word and a determination to surrender to the Holy Spirit. Our lips will then be overflowing with goodness.
Take this into account: your mouth is the bucket through which the wellspring of your emotions flows.

The Watchman
In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
