McDonald’s, Pepsi-Co and Coca Cola Retain Their Presence in Russia Among the Food and Beverage Companies Urged by Political Figures to Abandon Russia and Exit, But the Bottom Line Is Critical!

HNewsWire- McDonald's and PepsiCo and Coca Cola among others, are being pushed to withdraw from Russia.

According to Reuters, New York state's comptroller wrote to many corporations urging them to take action.

John Mann, a British politician, made a similar request.

McDonald's and PepsiCo are among the food and beverage industries under increasing pressure to terminate connections with Russia in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

According to Reuters, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli advised businesses to reconsider their Russian commercial activities in a letter Friday, citing "significant and escalating legal, compliance, operational, human rights and workforce, and reputational concerns."

Suspending or terminating operations in Russia, DiNapoli said, would "address different investment risks connected with the Russian market," as well as play a critical part in "condemning Russia's involvement in fundamentally weakening the international order."

McDonald's and PepsiCo did not react promptly to Insider's request for comment made outside of regular business hours.

According to Reuters, the letter also urged other firms to boycott Russia, including Estee Lauder, Kimberly-Clark Corp, Coty Inc, Mondelez International Inc, Fortinet Inc, Bunge Ltd, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc, and Trimble Inc.

Since Russian President Vladamir Putin invaded Ukraine in an unjustified invasion, a number of businesses have ended or limited their economic ties with Russia.

Ikea, Spotify, and Nike are just a few of the large firms that have lately terminated connections with Russia. Several retail chains, like Publix and Kroger, also shown their support for Ukraine by pulling Russian vodka off their shelves.

British lawmaker John Mann urged DiNapoli to take similar steps. He said in a tweet, "If McDonald's and Starbucks continue to operate in Russia, a worldwide boycott of their goods should be initiated."

Additionally, social media users have advocated for business boycotts, with McDonald's coming under particular fire.

"Guess who is continuing business as usual in #Russia no surprise #BoycottMcDonalds," one person captioned a picture of open McDonald's restaurants in Russia.

Another individual stated: "@McDonalds Choose to leave #Russia or risk losing loyal consumers. #BoycottMcDonalds."

The original story may be seen on Business Insider.

This “#BoycottMcDonalds” that has cropped up on Twitter recently appears to stem from a Reuters article where it was noted that New York state’s pension fund chief urged the likes of McDonald’s and Pepsi (among a few other major global brands) to cease operations in Russia.

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli sent letters to a myriad of companies who have a presence in Russia explaining that if they stopped offering their products/services to the Russian population then they’d be playing an “important role in condemning Russia’s” actions in Ukraine.

And it’s not just people mad about McDonald’s hamburgers or some Pepsi being served or sold in Russia – you’ve got folks also screaming online about Coke products and Burger King being available in Russia.

Putin: You Hooligans, Leave My Pepsi Alone, It Taste Good With My McDonald's.
