Ukraine’s Capital, Kiev, Was Hit With a Missile Strike After Russia Warned Its Citizens to Leave the City

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States’ ambassador to the United Nations, replied to Putin’s remarks on Sunday during a CBS News interview.
“President Putin is continuing to escalate this conflict in an unacceptably reckless manner,” Thomas-Greenfield said early Sunday. “And we must continue to criticize his behavior in the clearest, most unequivocal terms imaginable.”
On the same day, Putin’s ally Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko cautioned the West against putting strong sanctions on Russia and Belarus, stating that such measures may force Russia into a “third world war.”

Russia conducted nuclear-weapons drills earlier this month, which included missile test launches.
The employment of nuclear and conventional weapons may be part of putting Russia’s nuclear deterrent on high alert. According to Russia’s military definition, deterrence is used to “deter aggression against Russia and its allies, as well as destroy the aggressor, even in a nuclear-weapons-based conflict.”
