BY NATURE CHILDREN OF WRATH–THE AUGUSTINIAN CULT EXPLAINS WHY THESE WERE BY NATURE CHILDREN OF WRATH BY TEACHING THAT THIS MEANS IT IS REFERRING TO ALL MEN

The Augustinian cult explains why these were by nature children of wrath by teaching that this means it is referring to all men because they have a sin nature that all men inherit from Adam. But, since this is a doctrine that is never taught anywhere in the Bible. By nature children of wrath is most certainly NOT referring to a sin nature. By nature in this passage refers to their being Jews who were under the law. And in this message I intend to prove it to you.

When Luther rejected Johann Agricola's statement that "The Decalog belongs in the courthouse, not in the pulpit. So to the gallows with Moses" calling it antinomianism. It begs the question, isn't this what Paul wrote in 1Tim.1 when he said, "Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man"? Doesn't this mean that the righteous who are the assembly of God's people have no need to hear the law from the pulpits as if it is for them to keep?

Here is the context found in 1Tim.1 in which Paul did indeed write this:

"3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust."? Yes indeed he did. Here Paul says that the law is for those who will not be led by the Spirit of God. By love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned.

Isn't this what Johann was teaching? Isn't what Paul says here a message regarding the law that brings it into context by showing it is indeed for civil gov't, “for the courthouse and not for the pulpit”?

A law that Deut.5:1-3 shows us was only ever given to Israel to be Israel's covenant with God as God Himself says it was when He gave it? So that if anyone else were to use it it would be used only for civil gov't? I contend that this is precisely what Paul was teaching.

And since the law was only for Israel. And Israelites were immersed in the law from day one continuing throughout their entire lives. And Paul tells us in Rom.4:15 that the law works wrath. It should be obvious then that those who by nature were children of wrath can only be Israelites while they remained under the law.

So here in 1Tim.1:3-11 Paul is telling Timothy that the law has no place in the believer's life. Because the believer is led by the Holy Spirit through love. While the Israelite was led by the law that works wrath.

The reason the New Testament believer has no need for the law is that when he is born again he becomes a spiritual being. Having become a child of God through a spiritual birth. While the Old Covenant had no such provision.

Therefore, because the Israelite was only natural flesh and blood just as Adam was when he was made, he had no spiritual part in him by which he could be led in love by the Holy Spirit. So as Paul says in Gal.3:19 the Jew needed the law to keep him from transgression until Jesus came. To insure that Jesus would be fully human without spot or blemish by the taint of other than human DNA.

Paul also tells us in 1Cor.2:14 the natural man can not perceive the things of the Spirit. And in Rom.8:1,2 that while under the law the Israelite was a "wretched man" who lived under condemnation and wrath. Because the law works wrath(Rom.4:15) by giving sin it's power(1Cor.15:56).

This is why in Eph.2 Paul wrote, "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."

This is a reference to Israelites when they were under the law. They are the children of disobedience by birth when they remain under the law. They walked according the the flesh by living under the law as natural men and not apart from the law as spiritual. They walk in the flesh fulfilling it's desires. This is what made them "by nature children of wrath".

As I said before this is in no way a reference to the false sin nature doctrine taught by the Augustinian cultists. Also known as the church. It is not a reference to the "depravity of man" or original sin. Using a message Paul wrote to those who were under the law to show them how to be delivered from it, to put all men under the law as if this is what God intended by sending Jesus.

In Rom.7 we see Paul telling Israelites who were once under the law, “For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”

This is why those who were by nature children of wrath were Israelites under the law. This is why Paul wrote in Rom.7:5,6 that they are delivered from the law by faith in Jesus. So that being delivered from the law they will no longer be "by nature children of wrath".

This is what happens when we learn to rightly divide the word of truth.

Rightly dividing the word of truth is the only way we will ever understand Paul's gospel. He wrote to assemblies of believers that were made up of both Jews and Gentiles. Sometimes speaking to Jews. And other times speaking to Gentiles.

Only rightly dividing will enable us to hear what he wrote as it was intended so that we will know when he is speaking of and to Israelites. And when he is speaking of and to Gentiles. And when he is speaking of and to both Je and Gentile.

Gentiles have never been, nor will they ever be, under or accountable to keep the law. Only Israel has ever been accountable to keep the law. This is why we know that when Paul writes about those who by nature were children of wrath he is referring to those who were under the law.

Because in Rom.4:15 Paul said it is the law that works wrath. And it is only where there is the law that there is transgression. Because even though sin is in the world. Sin is only imputed, or counted against someone, when they are under and accountable to keep the law. This has never been true for Gentiles. But, only for Israelites.

So Luther's rejection of anti-nomianism  was really a disregarding of Paul's admonition to rightly divide the word of truth. Because when we do this we will see that Paul was telling Israel they are children of wrath by nature when they are under the law. And is in no way referring to any other peoples or nations.

And now that you know that only Jews could ever be by nature children of wrath, because only Jews could be dead in trespasses and sins. You can rest in the knowledge that God does not ever hold anyone accountable for what he does not know. But, only for who he does not know. That is, whether or not he has come to know and trust in Jesus.
