The Parental Rights in Education bill has advanced to the Senate floor for a full vote this week after passing its final committee hearing.
The Parental Rights in Education bill passed a House committee by a vote of 69 to 47, and the state Senate Appropriations Committee approved it by a vote of 12-to-8.
If Gov. Ron DeSantis signs the bill, it will prohibit Florida educators from speaking to primary-school pupils about some LGBTQ+ themes that are not “age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.”
On March 4, the Republican governor of Florida defended the bill, stating it is about providing “no sexual training” to young pupils.
“When you look at the bill, it says ‘no sexual instruction to children in grades pre-K through three,’ how many parents want transgenderism or whatever injected into classroom curriculum for their children?” According to DeSantis, he told reporters. “It’s simply asking if you really want our younger students to be taught about sex?” And this isn’t only about sexual matters. But I believe we are seeing a concentration on transgenderism right now, with children being told they may be able to choose their genders and other such things.”
In addition, parents would have more legal authority to sue school districts.
According to Equality Florida, Republican State Senator Jeffrey Brandes filed an amendment on March 4 to substitute “sexual orientation and gender identity” in the bill with “human sexuality and sexual activity” to make it more related to sex education, which is already strictly regulated in Florida. The amendment was defeated on a party-line vote.
State Senator Dennis Baxley, a Republican who sponsored the counterpart bill in the Senate, said in committee on February 28 that he is “a guy who doesn’t hate anyone.”
“I’m really shocked at how something so easy developed into this,” he added, adding that the anti-LGBTQ+ tone in the measure was “manufactured by the media.”
“It just decides who’s in command,” Baxley concluded. “I’m not trying to malign anyone, and I’m not trying to dismiss teachers’ principles.” I’m simply trying to get back to the center. These decisions must be made by parents.”
Democratic lawmakers disagreed, calling the bill unfair and a “solution looking for a problem.”
Democrat state Sen. Lauren Book, a former schoolteacher, said at the Feb. 28 committee hearings, “I don’t recall ever telling my young pupils, ‘Don’t worry, you don’t have to pick a gender.” “I don’t recall ever using hidden lesson plans to preach LGBTQ propaganda.” And I don’t recall breaching any Florida laws when I told a parent they couldn’t look over my lesson plans.”
“It didn’t happen,” says the narrator. She said, “It didn’t happen then, and it doesn’t happen now.” “Educators in Florida are not indoctrinating young children with developmentally unsuitable or age-inappropriate content.” These are experts in their field.”
On the legislative steps in Tallahassee, students from across the state assembled. Some were present to testify in opposition to the bill.
On Feb. 28, LGBTQ+ rights organizations came out against the bill’s passage by a Senate committee.
In a written statement, Amit Paley, CEO and Executive Director of The Trevor Project, said, “Removing LGBTQ persons and themes from public schools will only serve to further shame a group of young people who already endure disproportionate rates of harassment, bullying, and suicide attempts.” “LGBTQ youth and their families have the right to see themselves reflected in the classroom.” What they don’t deserve is the government’s shame and censorship.”
Generation Z has been in a constant state of activism since they realized that they had voices as well. But their lack of perspective and scope of the circumstances are clear. The youth haven’t endured war or adversity, they are reaping the benefits off of the backs of those who laid down their lives for their freedom. This lack of respect calls for a brief lesson on history. Gen-Z wants no part in educating themselves to the views of their predecessors. This is where your ideologies become unsafe to society. If you cannot keep an open mind and take heed to sacred spiritual text, then why would you then attack it when we simply don’t want humanity to move in this direction.
Our guiding doctrine tells us not to do the exact things that much of our youth does on a regular basis. The solution to the mass miscommunication is communication. Well spoken, well thought out education. When I proclaim my Christian faith, I sometimes am scrutinized for being some sort of bigot. Instead of lashing out, I simply state that i’m open to any questions they might have as long as they don’t ask with a hateful heart. In which case, you’re talking to someone who only wants to dismantle your faith & doesn’t care to hear the gospel. If knowledge is power, why are the activists shying away from it? Because it’s clear that the blind are destined to lead the blind. There are smart kids out there, and they’re receptive to the word of God. Because they know that their thoughts aren’t original, and that history repeats itself. Stay inquisitive in the word of God, and the world around you.
Guada, a mother of two young children and a mother-to-be, weeps herself to sleep at night, fearful that Hong Kong’s strict COVID-19 regulations may remove her from her children or compel her to give birth alone.
As part of Hong Kong’s “dynamic zero” COVID policy, everyone who tests positive for COVID-19, including newborns and children, is placed in isolation facilities with no family contact allowed.
The government aims to roll out mandatory mass testing for the city’s 7.4 million people in March, heightening worries of separation among many local and expatriate families as coronavirus cases reach new daily highs.
“Imagine how stressed I am right now… “I’m afraid of having to give birth alone, of them taking my daughters, my babies, of them taking me away if I’m positive,” Guada, an Argentinian who has resided in Hong Kong for 3.5 years and has two daughters aged 3 and 5, said. Due to the sensitivity of the circumstance, she declined to reveal her last name.
Parents’ concerns have grown when officials placed an infected 11-month-old in isolation in a hospital.
Authorities have documented the deaths of many infants infected with coronavirus in the last two weeks, the youngest of whom was an 11-month-old.
Diplomats in the global financial center say they have frequently expressed their concerns to the authorities about parents being separated from their children in a city with some of the strictest coronavirus controls in the world.
In response to media inquiries, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority said it “understands the worry of parents and carers,” but added that public hospital kid isolation facilities are severely overburdened.
A hospital would strive to keep parents or carers in the same ward as their infected child if they were also COVID-19 positive.
Authorities have stated that they are overburdened and are unable to accommodate parents who choose to stay with infected infants because hospitals are at or near capacity, with close to 10,000 new infections per day, up from almost zero at the beginning of the year.
Parents can schedule video conversations three times a day to keep in touch with their children, according to health officials.
“It’s pretty inhumane to me.” I’m terrified. “I have a 14-month-old kid who doesn’t speak and has no idea how our phone works,” said a university lecturer who did not want to be recognized.
Isolating infants, according to medical clinic Central Health, poses a “substantial risk” of child death “because parents may delay taking their children to the hospital at critical periods when intervention could save lives.”
Some families, notably those from the expatriate community, have decided to depart before the March coronavirus testing becomes necessary.
While the exact nature of the testing is unknown, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam has stated that persons who test positive will not be able to isolate at home and will instead be required to visit government locations. With roughly 60,000 residents waiting to be admitted, isolation and quarantine centers are currently at maximum capacity.
With the support of the Chinese regime, the government is creating tens of thousands of such isolation units, adding to fears that families may be separated.
Since 2020, Hong Kong has seen over 80,000 illnesses and 400 deaths, far lower than other big cities.
Veronica, a Spanish expat who has lived in Hong Kong for nine years and declined to disclose her last name, expressed concern about being separated from her 3-month-old child.
“I’m concerned about leaving him alone, but I’m not concerned about the virus because I’m protected.” “All I’m concerned about is the circumstance,” she explained.
It should come as no surprise to anyone who pays attention to global politics that this is happening. However, one could speculate and say that tensions across the board are running higher than ever for the Chinese Communist Party. Something has got to give, America is no longer able to turn a blind eye from Xi’s power-trip due to the rapid spread of information in this digital age.
We’ve got a long road ahead of us but through faith in the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ we’re saved. 1 Peter 4:12-14 says: “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” Stay inquisitive in the word of God, and the world around you.
