Due to the increased risk of cardiac-related death, Florida Surgeon General Joseph A. Ladapo, M.D., Ph.D., said in a statement on Friday that the state no longer advises providing mRNA COVID vaccinations to men aged 18 to 39.
The Florida Department of Health conducted this investigation using a self-controlled case series, a method used to assess the safety of vaccines.
According to the announcement, "our analysis indicated that there is an 84% increase in the relative frequency of cardiac-related death among males 18-39 years old within 28 days following mRNA immunization." This exceptionally high risk of death from cardiac causes among males of this age range likely outweighs the benefit of immunization, given the widespread immunity to COVID-19. These additional dangers were not observed with non-mRNA vaccinations.
As a result, "the State Surgeon General recommends against the use of mRNA COVID-19 vaccinations among males ages 18 to 39," the release reads. Myocarditis and pericarditis are two previous heart diseases that should cause further trepidation on the part of those considering this course of action.
Notably, the investigation concluded that non-mRNA vaccines "were not shown to have these higher risks among any demographic," including the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
According to Ladapo, "studying the safety and efficacy of any medications, including vaccines, is a crucial part of public health." Important results that should be shared with Floridians include a decrease in safety measures and the dismissal of citizen concerns.
The original "safe and effective" label for COVID mRNA vaccines has been called into question, which is why this disclosure has been made now. Some doctors and nurses have come forth about their reservations about immunizations and urged patients to decline any more doses.
