So, I’m watching a ‘Christian’ program where the people on it, all supposedly scholars by seminary standards, were discussing why Adam’s flesh when God made him was somehow different from what his flesh became after he ate the fruit. The agreed upon conclusion in their conversation went something like this.
“Because Adam was able to see God, was able to name the animals, and was formed by God’s own hand from the dust of the ground, his flesh was different from the rest of mankind.”
As I considered what was being said it occurred to me that the Genesis account shows us that Adam was still able to see God after he ate the fruit as well. He spoke with God, and God with Him, both before and afterward, right? Read Gen.3,4 and you will see this. So the first part of their statement of faith here is false.
It also occurred to me that men name things all the time still today. So that one is gone too. But, no man except Adam was made from the dust of the ground by God’s own hand. So I thought, could they have something here? Could this be a real difference between Adam’s flesh and the flesh of the rest of mankind? This led me to look at what Paul taught in 1Cor.15 in regard to Adam’s flesh.
In 1Cor.15:45-50, actually the whole chapter but for the sake of brevity we will focus on these verses, we see Paul’s teaching regarding what Adam was when he was made from God’s own hand from the dust of the ground. And what Paul says all men are who come into existence through procreation. He says,
“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.”
So we see here from Paul’s teaching that Adam was a living soul, not spiritual but natural, and of the earth earthy when God made him from the dust of the ground by His own hand. Then we see in the next few verses that according to Paul the rest of mankind are the same as Adam was when God made him. He says that just as Adam was of the earth earthy, so are the rest of mankind of the earth earthy. And that we who are Adam’s progeny bear the same image of the earthy that Adam did when God made him.
Does this sound like Paul is saying that the rest of mankind has different flesh than Adam had? No. In fact, Paul says here that all men have the same flesh Adam had when God made him from the dust of the ground by His own hand, right? Well then why the statement from these people that Adam’s flesh was different than ours is? It is because this is one of the ways they could make Jesus’ flesh different from ours. While still seeming to acknowledge that Jesus came in the flesh.
But, why would they think this is necessary? It is because if Jesus’ flesh is the same as all men then the sin nature doctrine they have believed would either make Him a sinner by nature, or it must be a lie. Otherwise A- Jesus could not have come in the flesh, or B- if His flesh was the same flesh all men have He would have had a sin nature too. And they know this it is not possible that Jesus had a sin nature because Heb.4:15 says “He was tempted in all points just as we are yet without sin.” But, if Jesus’ flesh was the same as all men’s flesh is. And all men have a sin nature. Then Jesus must also have had a sin nature. So those who believe the doctrine of original sin have painted themselves into a pagan corner.
This is why to them it is so important that Adam’s flesh was different when God made him than ours is now. Because then they could say that it was only Adam’s flesh that Jesus had. And that because Adam’s was different, Jesus’ was different from ours too. Making a way for them to hold onto their belief in the pagan doctrine of original sin with it’s sin nature teaching.
There is another problem they encounter in believing the doctrine of original sin. The fact that Heb.2:14-18 says,
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.”
Here we see the writer of Hebrews saying that Jesus’ flesh was “the same” flesh all men have. And that His flesh was that of “the seed of Abraham”. This passage does not say Jesus took on the seed of Adam as if to say Adam and Jesus alone had the same flesh. It says Jesus’ flesh was the same flesh as Abraham’s because He was of Abraham’s seed. We also see that “in all things” Jesus “was made like unto His brethren”. In how many things? In all things. This passage says this needed to be true because only then could Jesus die a man’s death that would deliver us who live in the fear of death from it, by destroying him who had the power of death, the devil. This is what makes Jesus the merciful and faithful high priest who can identify completely with those He came to deliver.
So the reasoning that tries to prove that Jesus’ and Adam’s flesh were different from the rest of mankind has no basis in the truth we read in the Bible. But, is only used as a means to prop up the pagan doctrine of original sin with it’s equally pagan sin nature teaching. And this propping up of this pagan doctrine exposes another truth. And that is that these who believe and teach it have not known the Jesus of the Bible. But, are instead relating to a pagan false god. One they call Jesus. But, one who is not the Jesus of the Bible.
John shows this by telling us in 2John1:7-11,
“For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”
The “doctrine of Christ” John is referring to here is the same doctrine John shared in 1John4:1-3 where he wrote,
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”
This doctrine of Christ John speaks of in his epistles is the same doctrine of Christ we read in Heb.2:14-18. That Jesus not only came in the flesh as John says in his epistles. But, that Jesus came in the same flesh all men have. When we believe these truths they will keep us from being deceived by the spirit of antichrist John said leads to believing in a “deceiver and antichrist”. The truth will keep us from being deceived so that we are led into the strong delusion Paul spoke of in 2Thes.2:8-14 where he warns,
“And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
If you have been deceived by this pagan false doctrine of original sin so that you too have believed that the flesh all men have is evil, and that this is why Jesus’ and Adam’s flesh had to be different, and that this is why Jesus had to come. It is my hope and prayer that this message has helped you to see the real Biblical truth.
So that now you can turn from the pagan false god that this belief has joined you to, to the true and living God who had to come as a man in the same flesh all men have for the sole purpose of joining with mankind in our death. So that by conquering the devil that had the power of death by His resurrection we could join with Him in His eternal life by faith in Him and His resurrection.
Pray for God’s deliverance and He will do it. And believe what the Bible plainly says.
See you there or in the air!
