We have seen that from the time Adam was made sin as it is defined by law was in the world, but it was not imputed to anyone. Not Adam, and not his progeny. This was the message throughout Genesis about God’s dealings with man.
And as we move forward through the time of the exodus we see God establishing the foundation upon which He will create a nation for the purpose of bringing into the world a messiah. One who must be fully human in order to be able to join with man in mortality and death. And who was also fully God because only God can conquer death.
In Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy we see God working with this new Israelite nation through both the promise given through their patriarch Abraham. And now also through their leader Moses. And the law God gave to Israel through him.
The promise remained along side the law to ensure that they would always remember their salvation was by faith through trusting God, and not by works. Because the law was used by God as a preservative.
This was necessary because even though they knew God cared for and was good to them, they were not always good to and cared for each other. And in the case when an Israelite would have a problem against his Israelite brother the law was there to at least force them to live as if they did care for each other.
This is how the law acted as a preservative because much of the time it was the only thing that could keep them from destroying each other. In order for Israel to remain, and also so that their bloodline would not be infected with the other than human dna of beings like we saw in Gen.6.
This is what Paul was referring to in Gal.3:19 when he wrote, “Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.”
So we see that as the law came along side the promise God gave through Abraham. It was never to be understood as being a permanent covenant for Israel. But, only temporary until Jesus came.
But, the promise was to be understood as permanent. To show that Abraham’s being the father of many nations would come about by men believing God as Abraham did to be considered by God as righteous. As Paul teaches in Rom.4:1-6.
That righteousness being by faith and not by works places emphasis on the personal relationship a man has with God when he believes Him. And not on any works he may do that he can consider makes him worthy of God’s acceptance. Mt.7:21-27 speaks of such a man.
And this is why we see in the chart that the blood of bulls and goats being able to cleanse the sinner from his sin. Did not however purge his conscience from those dead works of law keeping. Making him to think of his righteousness as coming from how well he was keeping the law. Rather than his believing God.
Because as Gal.3:21 in the chart shows the law was never given to give life. But, only to preserve Israel as a people through whose purely human blood line messiah would come.
And now in the chart we see a convergence of the people who were not of Abraham. And those who were his progeny. And that convergence is found in Jesus.
A the only living Spiritual man that ever lived until then He represented the means by which God would bring to mankind the gift of eternal life. For those whose line was not a part of Abraham’s progeny. As well as for those whose lineage was.
Because as we see in 1Cor.15:45-48 the first Adam was not a living spirit. He was a living soul. A body made from the dust of the ground with air in it.
But, Jesus being Spirit because He is God. And that Spirit in-dwelt a natural body just like Adam’s and ours is in every way. “The same” flesh and blood that all men have as Heb.2:14 says.
This was to show that all men have available to them the same salvation that only comes by grace through faith in Jesus. And when we believe in Jesus as He believed the Father we are saved.
This is how we are born again. When God creates in us a spirit that that makes us His children. Without which we are His creation, but not His children. And only His children inherit His kingdom.
Paul says if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus. And believe in your heart that he has raised from the dead. You shall be saved. You will have eternal life now. And receive an immortal body later at the resurrection.
If you will do this then heaven will be yours eternal home. If you will do this then as God’s child you will live in peace, joy, and love for all eternity. If you will do this then as God’s child you will be joined forever with all of His children. And if you will do this… then I will see you there or in the air!
