Hong Kong COVID-19 Contact Tracing App ‘LeaveHomeSafe’ Had Hidden Facial Recognition Technology Similar To Mainland China’s “Social Credit System”.

The Hong Kong government has acknowledged that their contact tracing smartphone app LeaveHomeSafe includes a facial recognition feature. The authorities, on the other hand, maintained that they were unaware of the function and had never utilized it.

Since the implementation of LeaveHomeSafe, Hong Kong citizens have expressed worry. Many individuals are concerned that it will be used by the government to impose greater social controls or infringe on people’s privacy.

To alleviate public worries, Wong Ho-wa, a Hong Kong data scientist and pro-democracy activist, believes the government should make the app’s source code available to the public.

The contact tracing app pushed by Hong Kong’s government resembled mainland China’s “social credit system,” which uses artificial intelligence and facial recognition to conduct mass surveillance and assign points based on citizens’ behavior, according to Antony Leung, a senior media professional in Hong Kong.

LeaveHomeSafe was created to track the user’s whereabouts throughout the pandemic, among other things. According to the Hong Kong authorities, the app is exclusively used to prevent COVID-19. Beginning November 1, 2021, all private people and public officials will be required to download the app in order to visit specific government facilities, public hospitals, and supermarkets.

On Dec. 9, 2021, the app mandate was expanded to include restaurants and movie theaters, forcing users to display QR codes while entering most public locations.

The Hong Kong Free Press (HKFP) reported on May 5 that FactWire, a non-profit investigative news organization based in Hong Kong, discovered a built-in facial detection module in the LeaveHomeSafe app after examining the source code of the app’s latest Android release, version 3.2.0, as well as six previous versions.

There are 20 directories in the converted source file. According to the study, one of those, labeled org, has a subfolder named reactnative, which contains three files labelled facedetector, camera, and maskedview.

One of the java files, initially called “FaceDetectorUtils.java” but renamed “a.java” in LeaveHomeSafe, may be used to identify a person’s mouth, nose, left and right cheeks, eyes, ears, and earlobes. It can also determine the likelihood of someone smiling or having both eyes open based on the degree of a head tilt.

“The face detection module is included in all versions of the LeaveHomeSafe app evaluated by FactWire, implying that it has been there since the software’s early introduction in 2020.” “However, neither the app’s official website nor the app store descriptions disclose this,” according to the story.

A Hong Kong IT official responded to the FactWire article by saying the department had not previously been aware of the function, nor had it undertaken facial recognition or gathered associated data. The department had also urged the app’s developer to look into deleting the face recognition source code without disrupting the app’s “regular operation,” according to the official.

However, according to Wong, a Hong Kong-based data scientist, it is hard to tell whether the face recognition function was employed only based on the source code. Furthermore, the source code deconstructed and inspected by FactWire was only a small percentage of the whole program.

Wong believes the Hong Kong government should provide the pertinent source code from the contact tracking app so that third parties may do a transparent study to enhance the app’s safety factor and, most crucially, to allay public concerns.

Take note people, this is the end goal for utopian globalists. A track and trace program with facial recognition is nothing more than software that could be obtained at any point by our nation. If you know anything about artificial intelligence, you’d know that as time goes on it becomes more effective. That all seeing eye, technocratic dystopian society is visible on the horizon. All that’s needed at this point is international compliance and well, time for the either our software engineers in America to create this software themselves or for time so the AI can develop for our globalist sell outs to propose similar measures state side.

After a cease and desist letter was dismissed by the firm, Purolator courier employees are planning to sue their employer over its required COVID-19 immunization policy.

According to a statement acquired by The Epoch Times on May 6, a group of hundreds of unionized and non-unionized employees will demand hundreds of millions of dollars in punitive damages from Purolator.

Purolator’s vaccination policy required staff to be completely vaccinated by Nov. 1 and legally allows medical and conscience exemptions, but the group of employees claims that all accommodation requests have so far been denied.

After a grace period during which testing may be utilized as an option, non-compliant staff were placed on unpaid leave on Jan. 10, according to the statement, which led to some choosing early retirements or finding work elsewhere.

According to the May 6 statement, “the harm and disruption of life has been disastrous for hundreds,” noting that some employees had to remortgage their houses or spend their life savings to live.

“To guarantee the supply chain didn’t collapse, employees worked long hours to fulfill the medical community and customer demands.” All of this was accomplished while battling the pandemic. These brave individuals are now unpaid while doing a profession they enjoy.”

On April 25, lawyer Leighton Grey of Grew Wowk Spencer LLP sent a cease and desist letter to Purolator, claiming that the current vaccines are experimental with no long-term safety data, are known to cause side effects such as heart inflammation and blood clots, and do not stop the virus from spreading.

It mentions how the Ontario government discontinued advising the Moderna vaccination for young men with myocarditis and pericarditis concerns, and how the AstraZeneca vaccine is no longer widely available due to thrombosis risks.

“You continue to enforce these divisive, deceptive, and immoral vaccination requirements despite the fact that the notion that only the unvaccinated spread COVID-19 is obviously inaccurate and dishonest,” Grey said.

The Epoch Times received a copy of Purolator’s supposed response from the potential litigants.

In a letter dated April 26, Purolator attorney Simon-Pierre Paquette replied, “The assertions in your letter are factually erroneous and have no legal validity,” adding that the business will not amend its policy.

“Purolator is committed to its employees’ health and safety, and its COVID-19 Safer Workplaces Policy was adopted in accordance with all applicable laws.”

The Epoch Times got a copy of the company’s “COVID-19 Safer Workplaces Policy” with an issue date of Oct. 13, 2021.

The policy is “consistent with existing medical advise and the Federal government’s recently declared direction,” according to the document.

Purolator is a private firm, yet as a postal and courier service, it comes under the government regulated industries and workplaces. Other courier businesses, such as UPS and FedEx, do not appear to have a vaccine requirement.

Both were approached for comment on forced vaccination, but neither responded before the deadline.

Canada Post, a Crown business with a 91 percent ownership in Purolator, has a required immunization policy.

The Purolator policy for October 2021 states, “Vaccination has been demonstrated to be very successful in limiting COVID-19 viral transmission and protecting persons from serious repercussions of COVID-19 and variants, including the Delta strain presently circulating in Canada.”

In Canada, the Delta variant has all but vanished. According to a brief provided on May 6, the Omicron variety took control in early winter, and its sub-lineage BA.2 accounted for over 90% of samples examined by Public Health Ontario in April.

Dr. Theresa Tam, the chief public health officer, has highly advocated immunization against COVID-19 to prevent serious sickness and death, but she has also stated that two doses give minimal protection against Omicron infection, and boosters only function for a limited time. Individuals who had a booster dosage are now contracting COVID-19 at two to three times the rate of the unvaccinated, according to recent Ontario and Quebec statistics.

COVID-19 has been contracted by a tenth of the 281,210 government employees, according to Blacklock’s. That workforce has a 99 percent immunization rate.

Grey, the employee’s lawyer, told The Epoch Times that he expects to file the lawsuit against Purolator before the end of June, and that he is also pursuing similar actions against railway companies Canadian National and Canadian Pacific, as well as oil and gas company Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNRL).

According to Fort McMurray Today, CNRL was the only oil and gas company in Alberta’s oilsands that required employees to get vaccinated, but the company abandoned the requirement in April.
