Watchman: Daily Devotional, The Further a Society Drifts From the Truth, the Stronger the Delusion Will Take Its Place. “It Is Better to Be Divided by Truth Than to Be United in Error. It Is Better to Speak the Truth That Hurts and Then Heals, Than Falsehood That Comforts and Then Kills

As U.S. Founding Father Benjamin Franklin said, “Man will ultimately be governed by God or by tyrants.” When a culture abuses its democratic power, the result is chaos and ruin. Either a democracy, guided by self-control and morality, keeps itself in check, or it crashes.

So we've demonstrated that the Bible commands Christians to submit to the government and pay their taxes. But what does the Bible teach about defying authority?

The general premise is simple: we disobey the government when it orders evil. Christians obey God rather than the government when the government orders what God condemns or condemns what God commands.

There is a significant difference between a government that allows evil and one that demands it. It's one thing for the state to authorize abortion, but it's quite another when it orders my wife to kill our unborn kid because we've surpassed the government's family size limit.

There are numerous scriptural examples of this concept in operation, to name a few:

Refusal to murder—the Hebrew midwives refused to murder babies under Pharaoh's mandate and were rewarded by God as a result (Ex. 1:15-21).
Refusal to turn in others: Obadiah shielded 100 prophets from Jezebel, who was assassinating all of God's messengers (1 Kings 18:4, 13–15).
Breaking dietary laws: Daniel graciously declined the king's food (Dan. 1).
Refusal to worship idols: Daniel's companions refused to worship the gold statue of Nebuchadnezzar (Dan. 3).
Refusal to pray to the king vs. God: Daniel is cast into the lion's den for defying the king's command to pray only to him (Dan. 6).
Refusal to stop preaching the gospel: The apostles defied the pleas of the state religious leaders to stop proclaiming Christ (Acts 4).
Refusal to submit to unlawful punishment—Paul averted the attempted physical punishment of a Roman official by citing existing rules (Acts 22:25–29).
Refusal to worship the Antichrist: During the tribulation period, Christians will break the law by refusing to worship the Antichrist (Rev. 12:11).

A Christian who defies the government has three alternatives for dealing with the state's reaction: (1) Work peacefully within the state's regulations to challenge the government's reaction in the hopes of changing current laws or proving that the state acted incorrectly; (2) flee an abusive state, as God's people did in both the Old and New Testaments; and (3) accept whatever punishment is handed out.

In the end, all we can expect from government is the protection of life and property, which, tragically, appears to be fading in America as elected officials increasingly operate as political activists rather than as unbiased defenders of our Constitution and laws. Nonetheless, God instructs us to submit to the government and pay our taxes, and to quietly rebel only when the state dictates evil. ( mRNA Vaccines ) Etc.

“Can wicked rulers be allied with You, those who frame injustice by statute? They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge. He will bring back on them their iniquity and wipe them out for their wickedness; the Lord our God will wipe them out.” (Ps 94:20-23 ESV)

  • Father, as we stand in the gap concerning the evil perpetuated by legislation that kills our children, we thank you for Your justice which is sure and Your verdict which is right. We stand in confident faith of Your will and purpose to wipe out every law and every statute in this nation that has come against Your decree of life. We thank You for your righteous judgments and pray that all evil would be overturned and Your righteousness firmly established in this land. For Your glory, alone!

We can pray for mercy on these leaders who oppose God, but we can also stand on God’s Word against the spiritual rulers in high places. The Lord WILL execute justice as we stand on His Word.

The Great Tribulation

It is our belief that the Great Tribulation referred to in the New Testament Book of Revelation (chapters 6-11) is unfolding before our eyes. In the near future, we will devote the "Tribulation" tab on our "Trending" menu to this emerging reality. As people continue to unplug from mainstream media, our commitment is to present the truth and encourage our audience to understand current events from a Biblical perspective. The Watchman

In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of potential danger or impending judgment. The role is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, particularly in the book of Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 33:6, God says to the prophet Ezekiel, "But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand."
