According to his father, puncture marks cover every finger on both of the boy's hands as a result of the repeated finger pricking required to check his blood sugar level. Every day, he has four insulin injections, and every meal is weighed and measured for carbohydrates.
According to an open letter signed by parents in this cohort, the youngster is one of 600 to 1,000 Chinese children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes between last October and May. In late October, Beijing launched a statewide program to immunize children aged 3 to 11—the age range that includes the majority of diabetes patients.
On the eve of International Children's Day, May 31, their parents issued an open letter requesting public notice.
"We didn't initially link it to vaccines, but thinking back, our children didn't have any change in lifestyle or diet, the only change was getting the vaccine, and they got symptoms after the vaccination," they wrote in the letter, which was first published on a website managed by Wei Boxing, a Chinese health care activist.

On November 4, 2021, a youngster observes a nurse preparing a shot at a health clinic in Qingdao, Shandong province, east China. As of June 11, the letter has received over 300,000 views and 800 comments. Many commentators were worried parents who said they were in the same situation. They provided their phone numbers and sought to be invited to a WeChat group of persons who indicated they or a family member had had serious adverse effects after receiving Chinese COVID-19 vaccinations.
Type 1 diabetes develops when the immune system assaults and kills beta cells in the pancreas, which create insulin and control blood sugar levels. Excessive thirst, frequent urination, unintentional weight loss, irritation, hunger, exhaustion, and impaired vision are all warning indicators. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it often manifests in children and young adults, particularly those between the ages of 13 and 14, however it may manifest at any age. The illness might be caused by both genes and exposure to viruses and other environmental factors.
The letter was sent months after hundreds of parents claimed that the COVID-19 immunizations caused their children to develop leukemia. Many leukemia patients are between the ages of three and eleven.
As of mid-February, China has completely vaccinated around 86.4 percent of those aged 3 to 11 years old, and all those aged 12 to 17. Parents of newly diagnosed diabetic children claimed they first created a WeChat group to offer treatment suggestions. They formed two additional groups once the first one reached 500 members, the maximum number permitted for a WeChat group. According to the open letter, around 600 of them have registered their true names with the organisation. Childhood Is Gone
The kindergarten planned for the 5-year-old boy's first treatment on November 5, followed by a second dose one month later. He began suffering excessive thirst and frequent urination on January 15, according to his father. It was difficult to reconcile being denied tiny joys he and his friends had taken for granted, particularly on June 1, International Children's Day, when all the kindergarteners were celebrating with a buffet.
"He screamed so hard because we were continually bringing him home to feed," his father Wang Bin (alias), from the port city of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province in eastern China, told The Epoch Times the following day. Wang's wife gave their kid chicken wings and cake for supper to pacify him.
Following that, the boy's blood glucose levels spiked to 306 mg/dL, a hazardous level that might have put him in a coma, according to doctors. The mother, who had stopped her work after learning of her son's condition, raced to give him an insulin injection. She kept an eye on his blood sugar levels after that and scarcely closed her eyes all night.

Wang, a delivery driver, considered purchasing a glucose monitor to help his kid, but the cost—450 yuan ($67) every half month—was too expensive for the family, considering that Wang is the only earner and they had auto loans and a house to pay off.
Because of the regime's decades-long one-child policy, which was finally repealed in 2016, most Chinese families, including Wang's, have only one kid. In the letter, the parents said that their children are "everything we live for and all we have."
"Our heart skips a beat every time a new person joins [the WeChat group]," the parents stated. "Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition that lasts a lifetime." Our children have forgotten the delights of youth and childhood. They've devolved into a collection of patients." Wei, the health activist, said on his website that he has received information on over 300 diabetes cases in which symptoms arose after consuming homemade Chinese vaccinations.
He claims that the majority of them are associated with Sinopharm and Sinovac, two of the leading Chinese COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers. A small number of the patients had received a vaccination from Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical, which has been licensed for use in Colombia, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan in addition to China. The first two are inactivated vaccines, which contain destroyed copies of the virus, while the latter is a protein subunit vaccine created using isolated viral proteins.
Wei found that almost two-thirds of the samples she examined were between the ages of 3 and 12. The Chinese authorities did neither confirm or deny if the vaccination caused any negative effects.
"We are constantly learning about unusual vaccination responses and how to diagnose them." This necessitates continuous improvement," stated Wang Huaqing, top expert in charge of the national vaccination program at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, during a news briefing in late May. He said that anybody who feels they are experiencing vaccine-related adverse effects should notify health authorities, and that a multidisciplinary committee of specialists would investigate the cases before rendering an opinion.
"If you feel poorly following immunization, particularly if the symptoms are continuous and severe," he said.

Despite such guarantees, local vaccination officials have consistently dismissed parents' concerns, informing them in "nearly similarly written" assessment reports that the diabetes was "coincidental" or "unrelated" to the immunizations, according to the letter. Authorities had suggested the same thing to parents whose children had been diagnosed with leukemia after immunization.
In a May 30 response to a case report in which a child developed Type 1 diabetes three days after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine in 2021, Guangdong provincial health officials stated that the case "doesn't preclude a causal relationship with vaccination," but that it was "unlikely to be an adverse reaction to preventative inoculation." They noticed the youngster had elevated blood sugar levels prior to inoculation.
"To be honest, we don't believe local governments should jump to such conclusions," the diabetic children's parents wrote. "Clinical research leads to medical progress." Because our children developed Type 1 diabetes after receiving a vaccination, and they belong to a certain demographic, even if there is no previous proof linking the two, what happened to them should be taken seriously."
Dong Yuhong, a former senior medical specialist for antiviral medication research at the multinational pharmaceutical corporation Novartis, also opposed to the authorities' indiscriminate dismissal.
"It is irresponsible to assert that 'COVID-19 vaccinations have nothing to do with leukemia and Type 1 diabetes' without proper medical investigation," Dong, who is now the chief scientific officer for a Swiss biotech business, told The Epoch Times. The issue with such declarations, she claims, is that they are "too absolute."
According to a 2018 population-based BMJ research, China has one of the lowest rates of Type 1 diabetes in the world, with an average of 1.01 individuals per 100,000 people, and roughly 1.93 in the 0-14 age range.
Dong cited clinical and case studies that warned of the danger of heart inflammation from mRNA and protein-based COVID-19 vaccines, as well as those that warned of the risk of acute hepatitis from mRNA vaccinations. She claims that the vaccine's spike protein is to blame for both of these autoimmune disorders.
Using the same example, she said that "in principle, the vaccination may elicit an immune response targeting the insulin-producing beta cells." "This is not inconceivable."
She went on to say that this might apply to any kind of COVID-19 vaccination, including mRNA, inactivated, and protein-based vaccines. A March Lancet research of 181,280 COVID-19 patients found that those infected were 40% more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes. In a June 2021 blog post, Francis Collins, then-director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, highlighted the "troubling connection" between diabetes and acute COVID-19 infection, citing two NIH-funded studies that confirmed infection of pancreatic beta cells in people who died from COVID-19.
Dong believes that this should raise concerns about the vaccine's possible risks. "Whether it's the vaccination or the virus, both include the spike protein that may cause diabetes," she said. "Both infection and vaccination might result in autoimmune assaults and persistent inflammation, as well as damage to insulin cells."
'The Vaccine Is the Problem'
While China declared that the vaccine was not required, parents were under intense pressure to vaccinate their children. Yang Yi's (alias) 12-year-old son had just returned from an appendectomy when the instructor urged his class to receive another injection. The Sinovac immunizations were administered to both Yang and Wang's boys.
"The instructor stated they couldn't go to school until they were vaccinated," Yang said to The Epoch Times. She waited a month before giving in in mid-December. Soon later, Yang saw the youngster eating and drinking much more than normal, despite the fact that he was losing weight. In March, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
"No one in our family has ever had diabetes," she said. Yang thinks that many individuals have kept their diabetes diagnosis private. She is aware of at least 30 similar occurrences in her hometown of Hefei, the capital of the eastern Chinese province Anhui. "They [authorities] claim it's coincidence in writing. "No organization dares to imply that the vaccination is the reason, but they all know it in their hearts," she added. "The vaccination is the culprit."

Despite widespread worry on social media, nothing has been said about the possible negative effects of homemade vaccinations in Chinese news channels. However, earlier research has connected various COVID-19 vaccinations to diabetes. At least two women in Japan, aged 51 and 73, acquired Type 1 diabetes after receiving the Moderna mRNA vaccinations. According to the case studies, none of the women's family had an autoimmune condition.
Even in those with a family history of diabetes, an outside cause such as immunization may hasten the disease's progression, according to Dong, but it's difficult to determine how much of an impact each component plays.
Like other parents who communicated with The Epoch Times, Wu Ming (alias) from Fujian Province on China's southeastern coast feels that the diabetes instances are not unique events. Her 3-year-old, who is now insulin-dependent, started urinating often at night in March, a month after receiving his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. In March, he had another Sinovac vaccination shot, followed by a meningococcal vaccine injection, and was sent to the hospital for two weeks for diabetic ketoacidosis, a dangerous accumulation of blood acids known as ketones.
"When we went to get blood sugar testing equipment, a salesperson surprised us and inquired, 'Are you obtaining it for your child?'" Is it related to the vaccine?' "Even they were aware of [the problem]," she claimed.
The National Health Commission of China, as well as its provincial bureaus in Zhejiang, Henan, and Fujian, could not be contacted for comment. The Epoch Times has contacted Sinovac and Sinopharm on the parents' claims.
