They formed two additional groups once the first one reached 500 members, the maximum number permitted for a WeChat group. Following that, the boy's blood glucose levels spiked to 306 mg/dL, a hazardous level that might have put him in a coma, according to doctors. The mother, who had stopped her work after learning of her son's condition, raced to give him an insulin injection. She kept an eye on his blood sugar levels after that and scarcely closed her eyes all night.

Wang, a delivery driver, considered purchasing a glucose monitor to help his kid, but the cost—450 yuan ($67) every half month—was too expensive for the family, considering that Wang is the only earner and they had auto loans and a house to pay off.

Because of the regime's decades-long one-child policy, which was finally repealed in 2016, most Chinese families, including Wang's, have only one kid. In the letter, the parents said that their children are "everything we live for and all we have."

He claims that the majority of them are associated with Sinopharm and Sinovac, two of the leading Chinese COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers. A small number of the patients had received a vaccination from Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical, which has been licensed for use in Colombia, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan in addition to China. The first two are inactivated vaccines, which contain destroyed copies of the virus, while the latter is a protein subunit vaccine created using isolated viral proteins.

Wei found that almost two-thirds of the samples she examined were between the ages of 3 and 12. The Chinese authorities did neither confirm or deny if the vaccination caused any negative effects.

"We are constantly learning about unusual vaccination responses and how to diagnose them." Despite such guarantees, local vaccination officials have consistently dismissed parents' concerns, informing them in "nearly similarly written" assessment reports that the diabetes was "coincidental" or "unrelated" to the immunizations, according to the letter. Authorities had suggested the same thing to parents whose children had been diagnosed with leukemia after immunization.

In a May 30 response to a case report in which a child developed Type 1 diabetes three days after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine in 2021, Guangdong provincial health officials stated that the case "doesn't preclude a causal relationship with vaccination," but that it was "unlikely to be an adverse reaction to preventative inoculation." They noticed the youngster had elevated blood sugar levels prior to inoculation.

"To be honest, we don't believe local governments should jump to such conclusions," the diabetic children's parents wrote. "Clinical research leads to medical progress." Because our children developed Type 1 diabetes after receiving a vaccination, and they belong to a certain demographic, even if there is no previous proof linking the two, what happened to them should be taken seriously."

Dong Yuhong, a former senior medical specialist for antiviral medication research at the multinational pharmaceutical corporation Novartis, also opposed to the authorities' indiscriminate dismissal.

"It is irresponsible to assert that 'COVID-19 vaccinations have nothing to do with leukemia and Type 1 diabetes' without proper medical investigation," Dong, who is now the chief scientific officer for a Swiss biotech business, told The Epoch Times. The issue with such declarations, she claims, is that they are "too absolute."

According to a 2018 population-based BMJ research, China has one of the lowest rates of Type 1 diabetes in the world, with an average of 1.01 individuals per 100,000 people, and roughly 1.93 in the 0-14 age range.

Dong cited clinical and case studies that warned of the danger of heart inflammation from mRNA and protein-based COVID-19 vaccines, as well as those that warned of the risk of acute hepatitis from mRNA vaccinations. She claims that the vaccine's spike protein is to blame for both of these autoimmune disorders.

Using the same example, she said that "in principle, the vaccination may elicit an immune response targeting the insulin-producing beta cells." "This is not inconceivable."

While China declared that the vaccine was not required, parents were under intense pressure to vaccinate their children. Soon later, Yang saw the youngster eating and drinking much more than normal, despite the fact that he was losing weight. In March, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

"No one in our family has ever had diabetes," she said. Yang thinks that many individuals have kept their diabetes diagnosis private. Despite widespread worry on social media, nothing has been said about the possible negative effects of homemade vaccinations in Chinese news channels. However, earlier research has connected various COVID-19 vaccinations to diabetes. At least two women in Japan, aged 51 and 73, acquired Type 1 diabetes after receiving the Moderna mRNA vaccinations. According to the case studies, none of the women's family had an autoimmune condition.

Even in those with a family history of diabetes, an outside cause such as immunization may hasten the disease's progression, according to Dong, but it's difficult to determine how much of an impact each component plays.

Like other parents who communicated with The Epoch Times, Wu Ming (alias) from Fujian Province on China's southeastern coast feels that the diabetes instances are not unique events. Her 3-year-old, who is now insulin-dependent, started urinating often at night in March, a month after receiving his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. In March, he had another Sinovac vaccination shot, followed by a meningococcal vaccine injection, and was sent to the hospital for two weeks for diabetic ketoacidosis, a dangerous accumulation of blood acids known as ketones.

"When we went to get blood sugar testing equipment, a salesperson surprised us and inquired, 'Are you obtaining it for your child?'" Is it related to the vaccine?' "Even they were aware of [the problem]," she claimed.
