Plagues Regardless of Its Origin Not Going Anywhere GOD Doesn’t Want It to Go
That Should Comfort You Unless You’re One of God’s Enemies (Bill Gates and Co) Then You Should Take Cover…
Brandon Ward of World Events and the Bible posted a nifty little synopsis of the 10 plagues of Egypt this morning. If you missed it, click the link and take a look.
Since part of the world is already engulfed in a plague of locusts, and the rest of the world is possibly (and I emphasize “possibly”) on the verge of an unusual new plague (i.e., coronavirus), it might be a good time to take a quick and calming breath, and review a few basic Biblical facts about plagues:
- Bible Fact #1: God’s in charge of everything. He’s even in charge of plagues, as the Old Testament Egyptians are well aware.
That doesn’t mean He causes every plague. Sometimes we cause our own plagues and problems by our tampering with nature, or by failing to obey the Bible health laws the way we should.
But the Lord is never-the-less in charge. A plague, regardless of its origin, isn’t going anywhere He doesn’t want it to go. That should comfort you, unless you’re one of God’s enemies (see Bible Fact #3, below).
- Bible Fact #2: During times of trouble (and yes, plagues are definitely trouble), God provides both comfort and protection for His People who draw near to Him (Exodus 8:22; Exodus 9:26; Exodus 11:6-7; Exodus 12:13; Exodus 12:23).
Yes, God takes good care of His own.
And He’s repeatedly told us not to worry, because He’s in charge. So, in light of the potential plagues to come, let’s agree to relax, remain rationale and not let anyone stampede us into fear and sensationalism when we have God Himself to lean on.
Regarding the plagues of Egypt, in Exodus 9:26 the Bible tells us that “Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.”
In other words, the plague of hail, and each of the other ten plagues, skipped over the land of Goshen where the people of Israel lived, and only afflicted the Egyptians who lived throughout the greater portion of Egypt.
Yes, the Israelites of old received miracle protection from God above. Are you any less one of His servants, than they?
According to the Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon, the name “Goshen” means “drawing near.” So you see, it’s those who draw near to the Lord who are protected during plagues. As it’s written:
Psa 73:27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
Psa 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
As you can see, “drawing near” to the Lord does not mean to merely believe in Him. It means doing things His way, in your life. It means actually living for the Lord. It means serving Him, and taking His Word seriously, and declaring His works to others.
Draw near to Father like that, and Father will draw near to you, as well. And when Father’s near, you know things are going to be alright, regardless of what’s happening in the world.
As it’s written in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
So put everything into His hands, and, if necessary, make sober and prudent preparations, such as food and water storage, extra medications if needed, etc. in case there are ever mandatory quarantines and lockdowns in this country, as we now see taking place in other countries.
My own personal motto is “Panic now, and avoid the rush.” In other words, make prudent preparations before the fact, and you’ll sleep well at night while everyone else is in turmoil. All Christians should be prepared in advance.
And then relax. Let the heathen indulge in their orgy of the worry and fear. And if the opportunity arises always be prepared to witness to the unbelievers about the reason for your supreme calmness and confidence, in the face of potential plagues to come.
- Bible Fact #3: God uses plagues against our enemies in order to make Himself known to them, so they too can believe in Him and ultimately be cleansed of their sins. (Exodus 9:29; Exodus 10:3; Exodus 10:16-17; Exodus 14:4)
Throughout the Bible, plagues are usually directed towards God’s enemies, and away from His precious servants.
That’s done to let God’s enemies know three things: a.) the plague is from Him; b.) their own gods were impotent against it, and c.) if they truly want to live they need to repent of their idolatry and draw near to Him and to His People, instead of fighting against them.
You saw this in the ten plagues on Egypt, which Brandon covered so well yesterday. None of the children of Israel were stricken by these plagues. Only the idolatrous Egyptians, whose attention God was trying to get, were stricken by the plagues.
I find it quite interesting that the coronavirus plague, which is now unfolding, struck first in China — the land of the people who utilize the dragon as their national symbol. And the vast majority of the deaths from that plague, without exception, have been Chinese.
I’m not saying anything here against the Chinese people. Many of them are Christian, in a land where it’s very tough to be a Christian. So please pray for them daily.
I’m just pointing out that, if we don’t allow ourselves to be distracted by the mainstream media sensationalism and scare-mongering, we can easily see where the plague was directed, and where the vast majority of the devastation from it is striking, even now. It’s not here. It’s in China.
(See the official updated figures for confirmed cases, total numbers of deaths, total number of recovered patients, and where the vast majority of the deaths are taking place, at the Johns-Hopkins Medical University website, here.)
God Sends Some Plagues on His Own People
I believe it’s important to grasp the fact that there are a few plagues discussed in the Bible that were directed towards God’s People when they were operating in blatant opposition to Him.
For example, the Lord was not too pleased at all with those who delivered the “evil report” about the land of Canaan, when Moses had sent the spies into the land to search it out. As it’s written, God didn’t like their lies one bit:
Num 14:35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
Num 14:36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
Num 14:37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
Num 14:38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh both lived, because they didn’t lie about the land when they returned with the spies. They didn’t rebel against the Lord’s Plan to give them the Holy Land.
The remainder of the spies, each of which had lied, were stricken with the plague and died, right then and there.
You might think about that. If you’re not operating in blatant opposition to the Lord, you’re most likely going to be alright in the face of any plague.
But if you’re operating in blatant opposition to the Word of God…well…it might be time to do an abrupt (and sincere) about-face in your life, and learn to cling to the Lord. Otherwise, plague-time.
God also sent “a very great plague” upon those Israelites who lusted to return to Egypt rather than following the Lord and His servants Moses and Aaron into the Promised Land. As it’s written
Num 11:33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.
The same thing happened during the time of Korah’s rebellion in the wilderness against Moses and the Lord:
Num 16:44 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Num 16:45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
Num 16:46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Num 16:47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
Num 16:48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
Num 16:49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
Num 16:50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
You can see the type of Christ played out in this incident.
Christ is the One that stands between the dead and the living, making atonement for those who love the Lord, that the plague not spread unto them.
That, too, should comfort you immensely, if you have Christ in your corner. Just don’t be a rebel against the Lord, His plan, and His faithful servants. The rebels got FUBAR (Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition). The Lord made sure of it.
One More Quick Example
In the wilderness, when the people of Israel dwelt at Shittim, many of them began to “commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab,” attending their sacrifices and bowing down to their gods.
This means they were having sex with the Moabite temple prostitutes, which, according to Moabite religious practices, brought you closer to their gods, resulting in rapturous delight.
How did our heavenly Father feel about that? Let’s take a quick look:
Num 25:1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
Num 25:2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
Num 25:3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.
Num 25:4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.
Num 25:5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.
Now, up to this point, the punishment has been strictly corporal. The Israelite men who had joined themselves to the false god Baalpeor were beheaded at Moses’ command, and their heads were stuck on posts in the sun, in sight of the rest of Israel.
But even that harsh punishment of the leaders of the idolatrous people didn’t stop the Israelites from continuing to engage in their spiritual whoredoms. As it’s further written:
Num 25:6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
This motley character — “one of the children of Israel” — brought a Midianitish temple prostitute right into the camp of Israel, right in front of Moses, and “in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel” who were crying out to the Lord in front of the tabernacle.
It was a direct slap in the face to God, and to Moses, and an arrogant challenge to their authority. So what happened next? Let’s see:
Num 25:7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
Num 25:8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
Num 25:9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
Yes, God took out the Israelite idolators with a massive plague. Twenty-four thousand of them.
He doesn’t appreciate in the least those who try to rebel against His authority, or rebel against the authority of His designated servants.
The Israelites who died in this plague had lust in their hearts that distracted them from obeying the Lord. They weren’t worthy of the Promised Land, nor of the Lord’s blessings and protection.
The question is, are you being distracted by the lusts of this world, away from the Lord? If so, you know the drill: REPENT and RETURN, while there’s still time. After all, the plagues are coming, either now, or later. But they are coming.
What I hope and pray you’ve gleaned from this Bible commentary is the fact that the plagues are directed at the enemies of God, not His friends and servants. And if one of us makes ourselves into an enemy of the Lord, then we should expect the same treatment as the heathen.
So don’t get too caught up with those who despise His Word. Keep your distance, except when trying to plant a seed or two.
And never allow yourself to get distracted from why you’re here, in the first place. Just as Moses was leading the children of Israel into the Promised Land, you’re supposed to be helping lead the servants of Christ into the Promised Land of the Millennium rest.
Not too very long from now, after we’ve seen the Biblical attack on Iran take place, the four winds start to blow, and the four stages of one-worldism begin to unfold on the world stage, with Satan rising out of the fourth stage (read Daniel chapters 7 and 8), God will once more send the plagues.
Not on you. Not on me. Not on any of His faithful servants. But instead, on those stubborn multitudes of this globe who disdained the Word of the Lord and have spent their time worshiping the antichrist, instead. It is they whose attention He seeks to get, at that time. And get it, He most certainly will.
As it’s written of these final plagues which come directly from the Lord:
Rev 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
Rev 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
Rev 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
Rev 16:4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
Rev 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
Rev 16:6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.
Rev 16:7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
Rev 16:8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
Rev 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
Rev 16:10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
Rev 16:11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.
Rev 16:12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
All six of these plagues take place just before Satan’s troops are gathered together for that great battles of Armageddon and Hamon-gog, which kicks off at the Lord’s Second Advent.
And now for the seventh and final plague — a plague of hailstones — which constitutes our heavenly Father’s warfare against those gathered together against Him and His servants (this plague of hailstones is the same as the hailstones in Ezekiel 38):
Rev 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
Rev 16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
Rev 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
Rev 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
Rev 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
That particular plague brings about an ignoble end to Satan’s attempt to seat himself as “God” on this earth, and cause all of the people of this earth to worship him.
You’d better believe these plagues will get the undivided attention of those folks who God is trying to reach, just as all of His other plagues have.
The plagues are not directed at you, if you truly love and serve the Lord. They’re directed at the enemy and those who follow him.
They’re directed at Satan’s entire “Mystery Babylon” religio-political world order. It’s all going down. And ultimately, it will all be replaced by Father’s truly peaceable and eternal kingdom.
The plagues are the Lord’s work. Even those plagues caused by our own idiocy are in the Lord’s hands, in the end.
So let’s never allow the sensationalistic news media to stampede us into forgetting that. Stick with God, and He’ll stick with you through thick and thin. Turn against him, and yes, it’s plague-time.
Matthew 24:7 – For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
