Principalities, Powers, Rulers of Darkness and Spiritual Wickedness in High places

First I would like to say I am not giving any homage to Lucifer and his followers. Christ defeated them at the Cross and when he said “it is finished” it was finished, done over with. So, what is the purpose for this writing you ask? You must know who your enemy is and how that enemy was/is defeated.

I must say here that We cannot defeat Satan in our own flesh. It can only be done through Jesus and what he did on the cross. If we try in the flesh, (as I have tried) we will be defeated! You may say I don’t want to know anything about evil. Well, then you are defeated already.

The problem today is preachers are afraid of the devil and figure if they leave him alone he, Satan, will leave them alone. That is true in part because if you are not doing anything to spread the True Gospel or you’re into false doctrine, you may already be headed to hell and he is content with that.

You could be in bondage struggling with sin and Satan will order his minions to step up the attack. You will either give into the onslaught of evil, or with the knowledge and power of GOD,  you will be able to stand against the onslaught of evil by putting on the full armor of GOD!! Ephesians 6:10-18. Start to preach and teach the true Gospel, teach how a person can be set free, and for a lack of better words “all hell will break loose”…as I expect will happen as soon as I make this live for folk to see!!!

Lucifer the Commander-in-Chief

Who is the leader of the Principalities, Powers and Spiritual wickedness in High places? Paul tells us in 2nd Corinthians 4:3-4. It is Satan, Lucifer, the god of this world (with a little g). Oh you did not know that?

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them”

Again if you do not know who the enemy is and where they came from you will not know how to defeat them. It will make this study too long adding in the information about the origin of Satan so you can study it here. He is on this earth trying to deceive and destroy as many as he can.

Job 1:6-7 “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. 7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

1st Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Ephesians 6:12 also speaks about the “rulers of the darkness of this world,” which is only found in this verse. “Rulers” is translated from the Greek noun “kosmokrator”, which Thayer’s Lexicon defines as lord of the world, the prince of this age . It is a compound word that is derived from (#2889) “kosmos” the present world order which includes the worldly affairs of mankind and (#2904) “kratos” dominion, power, ruler.

Lucifer is also called the “prince of the power of the air”

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

The word “prince” is translated from the Greek (#758) “archon” and refers to a ruler, a commander, chief or leader. Doesn’t a ruler or commander have an army that he rules over. Satan is the god that rules in the earth’s atmosphere, which is his kingdom…. for now. Right now, he has control and dominion over the fallen angels and demon spirits that oppress and torment man.

Jesus told of the authority of Lucifer/ Satan and his control of earth

John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you; for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

Also in Luke we see that there are more names for Lucifer/ Satan. Satan is called “Beelzebub” and is chief of “Devils”

Luke 11:15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils

The word Beelzebub is translated from the Greek (#954) Beelzeboul: meaning “lord of the house” and “the prince of evil spirits”
The Command Structure of the god of this world the Officers

Ephesians 6:12 describes the Command Structure of the god of this world, Yes Satan has his followers set up like the Military to carry out and oversee his evil plans for Man. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers , against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

In addition to Ephesians 6:12, these scriptures deal with the same word in the Greek

Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Ephesians 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

The Principalities could be considered Generals

The Greek Word for “principalities” arche (#746) means chief or ruler. Some scholars say this refers to the Fallen Angels that were cast out with Lucifer. (Rev 12:4,9) These are the most powerful and are most likely in the command structure the top generals over a country. Their objective would be to give orders to the next in command the powers. Understand that these fallen angels hate Man just as Lucifer does and are working to wreak havoc and destroy every human they can. The main objective as 2nd Corinthians 4:3-4 states is to keep as many as they can from the truth and accepting Christ as Lord and savior. Just as the leaders in human military, it is the duty of these principalities to plot strategies and position the Troops (powers and spiritual wickedness) in a particular area.

So if the Principalities are the chief rulers; they are first in a high order of evil spirits. Every place you see the word principality in relation to Evil in the word of God (KJV), it is the Greek noun (#746) “arche” which Vine’s Dictionary defines as that which is first in time, order, or place. It is used seven times in the scriptures to denote angelic or demonic rulers.

The Powers could be considered the lesser Officers

The word powers is the Greek noun (#1849) “exousia” and means one who possesses authority or influence. It is used in Ephesians 6:12 to represent the angelic or demonic authorities that operate in the spirit realm.

Using the phrase “principalities and powers,” Paul is telling us that there is a structure in satan’s kingdom (yes satan has a kingdom or thinks he does) where fallen angels, evil spirits, and demons are ranked one above the other, again just like human military, according to their power and authority. These fallen angels have influence over a State, Province, or Territory in a Country and must be dealt with to open up the Gospel in those areas. Daniel 10:12-13 tell us of the spiritual ruler that operated over the ancient nation of Persia, who’s power was broken by the prayers of Daniel.

“Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.“

Spiritual Wickedness in High Places – the enlisted menial officers and the grunts

The last group mentioned is “spiritual wickedness” (or could be translated wicked spirits) in high places. The High Places is translated from the Greek (#2032) “epouranios” and refers to the dwelling place of God as well as the abode of angels and evil spirits. Vine’s dictionary says “epouranios”, also translated “heavenly places”, refers to the sphere of activity or existence that is above, in contrast to that of the earth.

Most of the commentaries state that the Spiritual Wickedness is describing Demons, Devils or Evil Spirits.

Devils is translated from Greek (#1140) daimonion: an evil spirit, a demon or devil.

Wicked – Wickedness from American Heritage Dictionary Thesaurus

Morally bad in nature or practice. adj.wrong, wicked, immoral, iniquitous, base, vile, evil, black-hearted, evil-minded, sinful, depraved, dissolute, debauched, pernicious, execrable, villainous, infamous, reprobate, nefarious, reprehensible, blameworthy.

Matthew 12:43-45  “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”

Luke 11:14-15 “And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils”

These are the spirits that possess a human or animal. These demons/evil spirits are the lesser minions, the grunts if you will that can inflict pain, cause diseases, mental problems etc. There are many instances of Jesus “casting out” spirits of people. He even allowed Legion to go into a herd of swine that ran off a cliff  Mark 5:1-13

A lot of people believe a person or animal cannot be possessed. They would rather term it “influencing or take control of”. Either way you look at it they are inflicted by these evil spirits, demons, devils or whatever term you choose to use. I personally believe an unsaved person can be demon possessed. When that person becomes truly saved I believe those evil spirits, demons, devils must flee but can still influence that person.

If someone who is possessed, gets those spirits cast out, does not accept Christ as Lord and savior and the Holy Spirit does not come to dwell within that person, then there is a problem. We see this in Matthew 12-43-45 above. Demons were cast out, they came back seeing the “House” the persons body, swept clean with no Holy Spirit or even another evil spirit, it goes out and finds some buddies more wicked them him, they take up residence and the person is worse off then he/she was before.

You must understand that we do not wrestle, battle, fight or whatever term you want to use with flesh and blood. (People who are evil), but we are in a spiritual battle with rulers and powers of the god of this world.

As stated in the introduction we cannot do battle with the wicked in the flesh. It must be done under the authority and within the word of GOD. The people who perpetrate evil are being controlled by these forces we cannot see. Most of them are ignorant to the fact they are being controlled and others know exactly what they are doing and embrace the wickedness! This is exactly we need to pray and break the stronghold Satan has over our fellow human beings.

We need to seek God and pray to break that satanic stronghold over our friends, family, co-workers and even the wicked rulers in government. But you must know how to identify what it is you’re praying against.

These Principalities, Powers and Spiritual wickedness in High places just laugh at most that call themselves Christians because;

1. they are not really saved and God does NOT hear their prayer.
2. they have no power because the Holy Spirit is not working through them and they are afraid of the devil.
3. they are in bondage themselves living in sin.
4. People adhering to false doctrine that is being preached and taught in the Church house.

These four problems are the biggest issue that hinders the Church today.

Here is how the hierarchy is set up. This is not set in stone and varies so use it as a guide. See a chart below

Lucifer is in control over the whole of earth and we know that according to scripture so that is not debatable. If you want to argue about it, argue with God and he can be contacted through prayer!!

Principalities are the generals over a specific Country and they give orders to the Powers. Look at a country and see what iniquity is prevalent in that country and you can tell what kind of fallen angel is in control. You can usually figure out its name too. It would be interesting to take a map of the world a gather information starting at the country and plot it right down to a city and to an exact point in that city. I am sure you would see a pattern develop. I am sure it exists somewhere and I am sure the Human Principalities are in control of that list.

Powers & Rulers of Darkness are over a specific State, Province, or Territory in a Country. Its getting easier to tell what fallen angel is in control by looking at what is going on in that particular State, Province, or Territory, and they give the orders to the Spiritual wickedness in High places. Lets take for instance the state of Nevada in the good ole USA. You can bet (pun intended) your last dollar that the fallen angel over that state is one that is associated with gambling, drug running, Mafia, prostitution, and all other forms of debauchery. That being true, then you also can bet that he has demons, devils, evil spirits under his control who are just like him.Spiritual wickedness in High places these are the main ones causing all the trouble, although the others including Lucifer himself is on the scene causing havoc. These are the easiest to identify by iniquity and by name. Within this group are the lowlife’s if you will of evil realm. One or more will be over a county in the state and then One or more will be over a City in that County. Then you will have a whole bunch of the demons/evil spirits who are controlled from there. These are the ones who possess people or animals.

These are the ones who are dealt with 99% of the time. Their main goal is to stifle Churches and stop revival. Its pretty easy most of the time, because pew setters are such willing subjects. Hatred, unforgiveness, drunkards, adulterers, homosexuality, idolatry, false doctrine etc., is so rampant in the church the demons just lounge around watching. If a move of the Holy Spirit starts it is quickly quenched. I have seen it happen many times. The Churches that they have a hard time with they will send in special followers such as witches or Satanists to disrupt and destroy.

You can Identify any demon and its name just by the Sin/Iniquity that is present in the area. The word of God lists them so lets take a look at some. Understand that all Sin comes from Lucifer as he was the progenitor of sin in the Garden of Eden.

1st Corinthians 6:9-10 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, Witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 envying, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.“

In the scripture above we can see what sin will keep a person out of heaven and cast into hell. Every one of those sins listed, and more, will have an evil spirit taking on its attributes. I personally believe all of those listed are actually Demons that manifest out of a person because I have had first hand experience with a number of them! There is a lot more that can be said here but it would take too long. Take what I have shared with you to God in prayer and ask him to help you understand the evil that is all around us.
