Godless China's Post-Zero-COVID Surge Is Infecting 37 Million People Per Day
HNewsWire: In a stunning admission, according to estimates from the government’s top health authority, nearly 37 million people in China may have been infected with Covid-19 on a single day this week.
This is a shockingly stark divergence from the extremely low 'official' case count (which reported just 62,592 symptomatic) and utterly dwarfs the previous global daily record of about 4 million, set in January 2022, as Omicron spread...
The new data was provided in a closed-door meeting by Sun Yang, a deputy director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, on Wednesday.
According to two people familiar with the matter, The FT reports that Chinese officials estimate about 250mn people or 18 per cent of the population were infected with Covid-19 in the first 20 days of December as Beijing abruptly abandons its Zero-COVID strategy that for almost three years has crushed economic growth (and citizens' freedoms).
As @MrSeanHaines noted on Twitter, it's amazing the 180 Chinese state media have done on their Covid messaging of late.
Bloomberg notes that it is unclear how the Chinese health regulator came up with its estimate, as the country shut down its once ubiquitous network of PCR testing booths earlier this month. Precise infection rates have been difficult to establish in other countries during the pandemic, as hard-to-get laboratory tests were supplanted by home testing with results that weren’t centrally collected.
Sun said the rate of Covid’s spread in the country was still rising and estimated that more than half of the population in Beijing and Sichuan were already infected, the people briefed on the meeting said.
And, of course, 99.9% of those people will be just fine.
This is extremely notable obviously as while China is experiencing its first real wave of infection, it is massive and will likely mean almost the entire nation will have natural immunity in two to three months... which will allow the economy to restart fully.
Chen Qin, chief economist at data consultancy MetroDataTech, forecasts China’s current wave will peak between mid-December and late January in most cities, based on an analysis of online keyword searches.
The lack of information made public by China on its Covid wave has led Washington and the World Health Organization to push Beijing to be more transparent on case counts, disease severity, hospital admission figures and other health statistics that have been made widely available by other countries.
“It is very important for all countries, including China, to focus on people getting vaccinated, making testing and treatment available and, importantly, sharing information with the world about what they’re experiencing,” U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a Dec. 22 press briefing.
“It has implications not just for China, but for the entire world. So we would like to see that happen,” he added.
Finally, we note that The Epoch Times reports ten famous Chinese medical experts passed away soon after Beijing lifted its zero-COVID policy. Most of them were members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and two were allegedly involved in the live organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience.
While the Chinese media reported the deaths resulting from “illness,” they didn’t provide additional information, causing Chinese netizens to speculate.

HNewsWire: According to leaked minutes from a meeting of the country's top health authority, as many as 37 million individuals in China develop COVID-19 in a single day, as reported by numerous news sites.
Officials indicated during the National Health Commission's internal meeting on Dec. 21 that 248 million people—roughly 18 percent of the population—were likely to have been infected with the illness in the first 20 days of December. The amount is orders of magnitude larger than the regime's official viral total, and if correct, would make China's epidemic the world's greatest.
The Chinese populace has limited natural protection to COVID-19's extremely infectious Omicron strain, which looks to be spreading out of control in the nation after almost three years under the regime's draconian zero-COVID policy.
According to a snapshot of the conference notes circulating on Chinese social media, the virus has infected more than half of the population in the country's capital of Beijing and Sichuan Province in southern China. According to the estimations, Sichuan is one of three provinces with more than 20 million illnesses, while six other provinces and cities, including Beijing, have between 10 million and 20 million sick people. Bloomberg and other news organizations validated the notes after speaking with unidentified sources participating in the conversations.

In recent days, more than a half-dozen funeral companies have verified a similar scenario to The Epoch Times.
According to a Beijing resident, he lost five family members in ten days, at least two of them were COVID-positive. They had all been immunized with domestic vaccines from Sinovac, which has previously come under fire for suspected adverse effects ranging from diabetes to leukemia.
"These phony vaccinations actually haven't offered any protection," he said in an interview on Wednesday, asking anonymity for his own safety. "Commoners who contract COVID have no defense other than their own immunity."

Having told people to pay attention to the president’s policies and "not overly focus on moments in time" such as being filmed without a mask inside a Washington, D.C., restaurant, Psaki is now the highest-profile White House official to publicly disclose they contracted the virus, raising questions about how the presumably always-mask-wearing-and-always-socially-distanced-and-fully-vaccinated official could have got the virus given the 'science'.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern put the country under national lockdown after authorities detected a single case of the CCP virus, likely the Delta variant, in the city of Auckland.
The entire nation will go into “alert level 4” for at least three days, starting from 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 17, the ministry of health announced. The regions of Auckland, the country’s largest city, and Coromandel will be under strict rules for seven days.
“The best thing we can do to get out of this as quickly as we can is to go hard,” Ardern told reporters at a press briefing. “We have made the decision on the basis that it is better to start high and go down levels rather than to go low, not contain the virus, and see it move quickly.”
Under level four, the highest level of lockdown in the country, everyone is required to stay at home and are only allowed to make physical contact with those in their household bubble. Businesses and schools will be closed and only essential services will be operational. The Oceanian island nation has not been in a level 4 lockdown in more than a year.
Health officials said in a statement that they were assuming the 58-year-old man from Auckland, who has not been identified, contracted the Delta variant of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, although genome sequencing had yet to be completed.
The patient became symptomatic on Aug. 14 and had likely been infectious since Aug. 12, officials said. His movements are currently under investigation, including several locations of interest in Auckland and the Coromandel, which will be under the highest level lockdown for seven days.
“Both the case and his partner are currently self-isolating at home and will be transferred to an Auckland quarantine facility,” according to health officials. “The man is not vaccinated but was actively attempting to book a vaccine,” they said, noting that the test results of the patient’s partner came back as negative.
The Auckland Regional Public Health unit is interviewing the patient for contact-tracing purposes, and COVID-19 vaccinations are to be suspended for at least 48 hours.
In response to the rise in alert levels, Minister of Finance Grant Robertson announced that officials will provide government support for businesses and workers affected by the new restrictions.
“The Minister for Social Development and Employment Carmel Sepuloni and I have activated a number of business support measures to provide certainty to businesses and workers and ensure we get money out the door quickly to protect jobs and keep firms’ operating,” Robertson said in a statement.
The last reported community case in New Zealand was in February. Its citizens have been living without restrictions although international borders have largely remained closed.
Last week, Ardern announced that the border will remain shut for international travelers for the rest of the year, adding that she hopes for a cautious reopening in a phased manner starting after the New Year.
On a global level, the island nation has amongst the lowest infection and death rates. Only 1 in 1,675 citizens have had a confirmed case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP virus, according to an Aug. 12 government statement.

Update: 8/17/21 New South Wales, Australia's most populous state, suffered one of its darkest day yet over the weekend, as it reported 478 new cases, and 7 deaths, during a single 24-hour period. The worsening outbreak has raised concerns about the potential impact on Australia's mostly unvaccinated aboriginal population.
Elsewhere in Australia, public health officials have confirmed another 19 new cases in Canberra, which imposed its first lockdown in more than a year last week. That lockdown has already been extended by 2 weeks, as paranoia over the delta variant is amplified by Australia's relatively low vaccination rates.
Daniel Andrews, the Premier of Victoria, asserted Monday that authorities wouldn't hesitate to go "door-to-door" in their efforts to help carry out mandatory COVID tests on Australians.
Andrews made the comments during a press conference, where he doubled down on his commitment to pursue Australia's ludicrous "zero COVID" policy, which requires draconian, economy-crushing lockdowns in response to just a handful of new cases.
"We’re not at a point where we need to be going door to door,” said Andrews. “We’re not at a point where we need entire suburbs to come out and get tested. If we get to that stage, then we won’t hesitate. I think we’ve shown, in fact I know we’ve shown that we’re prepared to do what has to be done, popular or otherwise.”

PJW warned that going from door-to-door testing to door-to-door testing might be too big of a step.

There will come a time though when I think restrictions will apply to those who have not been vaccinated, rather than restrictions applying to all of us."

A new study in The Lancet entitled, “Real estimates of mortality following COVID-19 infection” (source), finds that the global death rate from the coronavirus is settling in at around 5.7%, which is 57 times higher than the seasonal flu. The study warns that “mortality rate of COVID-19 could be as high as 20% in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.”
This is consistent with what we already know about what happens when local hospital beds get overrun and patients no longer have access to critical care. The death rate skyrockets to 10-20%.
As the following chart shows from the study, the calculated case fatality rate appears to be settling at around 5%, with 5.7% the current best calculation:
This means that for every 1 million Americans who get infected, we should expect around 50,000 deaths, maybe more. According to our pandemic projection models, there are right now far fewer than 1 million Americans infected, but the number is doubling about every four days, so it won’t take long to get there unless a national lockdown happens first.

Update: President Trump started tonight's press conference by celebrating the Fed's QE5. It was perhaps the first time he said something about the central bank (but notably not Powell by name) in more than a year.

COVID-19 mortality rate could be as high as 20% when hospitals are overrun
The same study also shows a mortality rate of nearly 20% in areas where hospitals get overrun (such as Wuhan, where it all began). The study specifically warns, “These findings show that the current figures might underestimate the potential threat of COVID-19 in symptomatic patients.”
The study also warns that “the median time from onset of symptoms to intensive care unit (ICU) admission is around 10 days.”
Since symptoms don’t appear for a few days in newly infected people, what this really means is that by the time 100 people need hospitalization, there is probably something like 1,000 additional people who have already been infected but aren’t yet requiring hospitalization.
Stated another way, if NYC doesn’t lock down the entire city before the hospitals start to surge, it’s already too late, and the subsequent 3 weeks are going to be absolute hell, with dead and dying patients flooding the system.
As we have stated before, the danger in all this is not “fear” itself but is not being fearful enough early enough and thereby becoming complacent until it’s too late.
The analysis finds that California, Oregon, and Washington will see its hospitals collapse as the pandemic spreads
Although USA Today is, of course, left-wing propaganda, their analysis of the hospital situation in liberal cities is not some twisted effort to hurt Trump. It’s actually an indictment of liberal cities and their total lack of preparedness to handle a pandemic.
“No state is prepared,” says this USA Today analysis, which then goes on to show that in particular, California, Oregon, and Washington are the worst prepared.
“US hospitals will run out of beds if coronavirus cases spike,” warns the article, and the analysis is correct. “Places like Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, and California might need eight times as many beds, according to the USA Today analysis.”

Notably, this analysis assumes all hospital beds are empty right now, which they aren’t. According to sources we’ve cited before, hospital beds across America are roughly 70-75% occupied on any given day.
That same USA Today article goes on to mention:
The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security estimates that 38 million Americans will need medical care for COVID-19, including as many as 9.6 million who will need to be hospitalized – about a third of whom might need ICU-level care. In a February presentation to the American Hospital Association, Lawler estimated that as many as 96 million Americans could be infected.
Conclusion: The US health care system is on track to absolutely CRATER in the next 8 weeks or so
There’s no getting around it. There are probably already enough infections circulating across America to crater the hospital capacities in cities like Seattle, NYC, and San Francisco. (Rural America will fare much better, thankfully.)
The Mayor of NYC has just announced that literally everyone in the city has likely been exposed. With everyone exposed, it’s not difficult to see that one-third of the city could become infected. That means out of a city of 8 million people, it’s not out of bounds to estimate that 2.5 million could become infected in NYC.
With even just a 5% case fatality rate, that translates into 125,000 dead in NYC alone. But of course, the hospitals would be very quickly overrun, so the actual case fatality rate might double that.
