Evangelicals Have Themselves to Blame for the Political Divide in the U.S.

Satan generally uses stealth and deception. The success of his plans depends on Christians not waking up to what is happening until it is too late to respond.

Who’s to blame for these Divided States of America? Let’s explore,

No matter what generational age group you talk to, the consensus from all respondents suggests this country is dangerously divided along political lines and hot-button issues.

“The United States is not so united. A growing body of research points to deep disunity between Democrats and Republicans in policy preferences, values, and tolerance of the other side’s views. As early as 2010, social scientists conducted surveys that revealed that nearly half of all Republicans would be “somewhat or very unhappy” if their child married a Democrat and nearly one-third of surveyed Democrats had a similar response. These results represented an approximately 1,000 percent increase from the level of people reporting this view in the 1960s. It seems that Americans feel more politically divided today than at any other time in recent history.” (Harvard Political Review, 2019)

As sourced, there is “a 1000% percent increase” in people having disdain for political opposites, this is truly a staggering figure. It suggests hate has compounded in 50 years and would explain all of the political aggression across the country. If this stat doesn’t pierce your conscience, then you can simply ask Rand Paul who had a piece of his lung removed due to an attack by a politically deranged individual in his neighborhood.

Rand as a Constitutional and independent voice has unfortunately found himself in the literal crosshairs of political hate multiple times, if you recall his dramatic testimony during a congressional baseball team practice in Alexandria, VA, Rand Paul recounted the scene saying,

“Capitol Police were at the scene because of the presence of Scalise, the third-ranking Republican in GOP leadership.

If Scalise wouldn’t have been on the team — unfortunately, he was hit and I hope he does well — but also by him being there it probably saved everybody else’s life because if you don’t have a leadership person there, there would have been no security there,” Paul said.” (The Hill)

This is a vivid picture of political division in this country is it not? People are erratic, violent and there are many places we could place the blame, but what we have to realize is prior to the 1960s this wasn’t the case. Back then it was very common for Americans to vote laterally among the parties seeing there weren’t insurmountable walls of division over political issues. Any preference was over the use of tax money and growth of government typically in this bygone era.

So, What Changed?

Something happened to politics many decades ago that forever created walls of partition between the political “right” and “left.”

First off, as a disclaimer, I am sure leaders of the Moral Majority like Rev. Jerry Falwell may have had good intentions in terms of getting America back on track morally during that time, but all they achieved was a political divide that forever changed the America body politic. Remember, it was the Religious Right that mastered the use of, “Wedge Issue.”

/defined
Wedge Issue: A wedge issue is an issue that a politician might raise in order to drive a wedge between different groups within his opponent’s supporter base. (Source)

To illustrate this point I have sourced an article from the New York Times dated 1989, which quotes Rev. Jerry Falwell resigning his efforts towards the Moral Majority. In this article, Falwell makes it plain that the plan was never to win the culture war, but to forever chain Christian conservatives to the Republican plantation, and earn a spot at the king’s table.

“Proclaiming that ”our mission is accomplished,” the Rev. Jerry Falwell announced today that Moral Majority would close its doors this summer.

The announcement of the end of the best-known institution of the religious right came after a troubled year and a half in which the movement suffered seriously from financial and sexual scandals involving television evangelists and had seen a Presidential candidate from its ranks, the Rev. Pat Robertson, win only a handful of Republican delegates in 1988.

Mr. Falwell conceded that ”we have not solved the problems” his organization was founded to combat, with such issues as abortion, school prayer, divorce, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and pornography still unresolved. But he said Moral Majority had played an important role in energizing religious conservatives and had helped change the terms of political debate in the country.

Mr. Falwell, here to address evangelists attending the annual Southern Baptist Convention, said Moral Majority had been ”the agent to train, mobilize and electrify the Religious Right.”

Get what you need to know to start your day, delivered to your inbox.

He said, ”I feel that I have performed the task to which I was called in 1979. The religious right is solidly in place and, like the galvanizing of the black church as a political force a generation ago, the religious conservatives in America are now in for the duration.” Efforts on Church and School”  (New York Times, June 12, 1989)

Mission accomplished is right, and sadly he being deceased will never fully realize the effects and consequences of politicizing Jesus. But man, his Trump-supporting toady of a son, Jerry Farwell Jr. sure seems to enjoy the status he inherited.

If you want to go into politics and leverage the system, fine, then run for office, but being a minister and cozying up to politicians and manipulating them along religious lines for votes is frankly disgusting. It is little wonder the efforts of Falwell failed.

Hindsight what it is, the leaders of the Moral Majority were greedy for airtime with the political elite, callously tore at the social fabric with wedge issues to garner votes, and being distracted with these things failed to properly rebuke with wisdom and Truth the attacks of the secular left. As a result, we are in a worse place because of their efforts.

Here we are, many decades removed, and the so-called “Christian Conservatives” have prostituted themselves to moral reprobates like Trump, and dogmatically support killing Muslims in wars of aggression on behalf of Zionist Israel. The hypocrisy is astounding, all in the name of the Republican Party and “Christian Politics.”

It is infuriating to think that so many ministries and churches supported the efforts of the Moral Majority knowing they wielded the Body of Christ’s gifted resources in vain. In fact, I wonder how much money was pilfered out of good Christians during these times towards these foolish efforts. Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 4:2-5 what ministers are charged with,

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:2-5

Preachers of the Gospel are there to exhort and preach the fiery Truths of all God’s word. There is no way they can fulfill that charge and associate themselves with the chicanery of the political world. You can’t cozy up to power, placate their evil, and expect to impact them for the Kingdom, that is not how it works. You have to preach the Word in boldness in truth, and refuse to compromise on anything pertaining to God’s Word. Hard preaching makes you an enemy of the political class, not a friend. That is the problem with Christianity today it is far too friendly with the evils of this world, and the impact is so far-reaching it is hard to calculate the damage that has been done to the American church as a result. Add in the controlling factor of the IRS on the 501c3 church and it becomes apparent this is all by design, put in motion by the evil one.

Conclusion

With this being said, fraternizing with the political elite isn’t anything new. Anyone watching the show called The Family on Netflix recently realizes that wayward ministries have been injecting themselves into the backdrop of politics in this country for a long time. “The Family” a T.V. show based off of Jeff Sharlet’s incredible book, talks about the secretive Christian group called the Fellowship, or the Family that runs the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C., and is a must-watch.

A few take always from the show,

  1. The group is over 80 years old started by Abraham Vereide 1935
  2. Prayer breakfast’s across the nation are recruiting grounds and talent scouts for the Family
  3. They are extremely secretive to the point of invisibility, most people aren’t even aware they exist
  4. The members are networked into the highest echelons of power across the world
  5. Their theology is striped to an elementary level and uses Jesus as a mascot, failing to address fundamental doctrines
  6. They become liaisons for despotic regimes bypassing the laws of nations as a networked ministry
  7. They have served as advisors to the political elite, helping to cover their infidelities, shielding them from the media with the guise of “spiritual recovery”

These are just a few takeaways from the show, and while it tried to present both sides it was obvious that this group’s infatuation with power is their driving motivation, all shrouded in the aura of Jesus, Jesus, Jesus whom they claim to serve.

Working with powerful people is not a sign of God’s blessing on an individual or ministry, any more than speaking in gibberish “tongues” and handling snakes is a sign of God’s blessing. In the economy of God, the only thing of value is the stripes on one’s back received for proclaiming the Truth of God. Paul said if you are to boast in anything boast in your tribulations and persecution for speaking the Truth, 2 Corinthians 11:16-31.

The only political burden a Christan should pick up and chain themselves to is the cross of Christ. Instead, they are chaining themselves to the messianic ambitions of Trump and the so-called “Christians” that would make him into a messianic figure like Wayne Allyn Root has done just recently much to Trump’s applause,

“Donald Trump has promoted a claim that Jewish people in Israel love him like he is the “king” of the country and “the second coming of God”.

“President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world…and the Jewish people in Israel love him like he’s the King of Israel,” tweeted Mr Trump, quoting Wayne Allyn Root, a conservative radio host known for promoting conspiracy theories.

“They love him like he is the second coming of God…But American Jews don’t know him or like him. They don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore. It makes no sense!”

“But that’s OK if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s good for all Jews, Blacks, Gays, everyone. And importantly, he’s good for everyone in America who wants a job.”

Mr. Trump added his own comment at the end: “Wow!” (The Independent)

So there you have it, the Moral Majority and Fellowship has failed us miserably, instead of rightly dividing the Word of Truth, and addressing these societal sins from positions of sound natural law reasoning, apologetics and cutting to the marrow with sound spiritual teaching, the goal was to divide our country from the beginning. I don’t want to hear any more Christians talking about the left as the source of the division in America, they are only responding to a 30-year campaign that pigeon-holed them into the labels and categories given them first by the Moral Majority. It is time to take a look in the mirror and see the evils institutionalized, politicized Christianity has become in this country and repent of that evil. Which means walking away from these institutionalized churches (HellSong) and organizations.

The Prophet appears throughout the history of the church. As early as the second century, Montanus and his disciples claimed to speak on behalf of the Holy Spirit. In the nineteenth century, Joseph Smith claimed to receive The Book of Mormon from the angel Moroni. Today the airwaves are chock-full of people claiming to speak in the name of God through the power of the Spirit. Personal prophecies are just a phone call away. Sarah Young, the author of the top Christian bestseller of the decade, boldly claims that her book contains the very words of Jesus. The Prophet continues to speak, to lead astray.

False Churches, a Convenience for the Soft Christian

The true church is defined in the Bible as a called-out assembly of those who are true followers of Jesus Christ. Of his true disciples, Jesus said, “For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matt. 12:50) The corollary would then mean that a false belief does not do the will of the Father. We know the will of the Father by what His Word says. It follows that false disciples must deny what scripture teaches:

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed, they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. (2 Peter 2:1-3)

Therefore, it can be said that a “false church” is one that does not proclaim the plain things of the Bible. I like this definition:

The false church: The body of self-identified Christians who may, or may not, have begun the process of sanctification through belief upon…Christ. The false church either rejects the infallibility of scripture outright or seeks to rationalize and radically “reform,” revise or reinterpret scripture to justify sin.

False churches exist because of false believers or false converts. They do not want to hear the truth of the Bible, so these false brethren join together and create a church of their liking, complete with a false teacher:

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. (2 Tim. 4:3-4)

If all the preaching and teaching at a false church suddenly became good and Biblically sound, do you think the people that attend would also become true disciples? Perhaps a few would, but for the most part, they would no longer attend that particular church. They would either go elsewhere or stop going anywhere. French political philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859) said: “In a democracy, we get the government we deserve.” With the freedom to choose one’s government, comes the responsibility for that government. The same is true in countries with religious freedom, where a group can easily set-up a church of their liking. It could be said, “With religious liberty, we get the church we deserve.” Source

The Prophet

The Prophet claims to be gifted by God to speak fresh revelation outside of Scripture—new, authoritative words of prediction, teaching, rebuke, or encouragement. In reality, though, he is commissioned and empowered by Satan for the purpose of misleading and disrupting Christ’s church. John offered an urgent warning about him. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Christians must “test the spirits” to determine if they originate with the Holy Spirit or with a demonic spirit. Later, John declared that God has spoken fully and finally in Scripture and offered the most solemn warning against anyone who claims to bring revelation equal or contrary to Scripture. “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book” (Revelation 22:18-19).

“For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs
and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.”
Mark 13:22

THE BEST PLACE TO HIDE A LIE IS BETWEEN TWO TRUTHS!

Since its earliest days, the church has been plagued by false teachers and deadly doctrine. Never has there been a period of rest, a time when Christians could relax their guard. Satan has opposed the church since the day of its founding, and he will continue to oppose her until the day of his destruction.

Naturally, then, Paul was seriously concerned about false teachers and deadly doctrine, warning of them in almost every one of his letters. As he comes to the end of his letter to the Romans, he reminds the church to be on guard, since false teachers are skilled at using flattery and smooth words to deceive even believers. Paul loves this church and wants them to be aware of the challenges they will face from predatory teachers. But his solution may strike us as surprising. He tells these Christians “to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil” (Romans 16:19b).

Paul seems to be echoing Jesus here. In the book of Matthew, we read of Jesus sending out his disciples and warning them of impending persecution from enemies of the gospel. He tells them how to behave in the midst of such trials: “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16). Jesus and Paul both call for wisdom and innocence. Let’s see how these two passages instruct us on protecting ourselves and our churches from false teachers and their deadly doctrine.

HNewsWire Logo top Menu

Serpents and Doves

Jesus had taught and mentored his disciples, and he was now ready to send them on a short-term mission. They would go to their fellow Jews to tell them of the Messiah. They were like sheep being dispatched into a pack of dangerous wolves. Wolves are vicious, and sheep are helpless. Wolves are crafty, and sheep are dumb. How could these sheep survive? They would need to learn from two other creatures—snakes and doves.

Snakes are shrewd animals, able to make astute judgments. They are able to evaluate circumstances and behave in a fitting manner. When they see the danger, they slither out of sight without hesitation. Doves, meanwhile, are innocent animals. Doves are simple, pure creatures who cause no trouble. Yet their simplicity is prone to lead them into danger, for they may not take flight when a predator draws near. Their purity is associated with their gullibility.

We are to be godly but not gullible—snake smart, but not snake sneaky.

Where Christians are prone to be as innocent as snakes and as shrewd as doves, God calls us to something far more noble and far more effective. Douglas Sean O’Donnell puts it this way: “We are to be godly but not gullible—snake smart, but not snake sneaky. For our character commends Christ; our godliness proclaims the gospel.” We are to behave in a way that draws attention to the gospel, not to ourselves. We are to ensure that any offense we give is the offense of the gospel, not the offense of our own depravity. We are to preach the gospel wisely, evaluating situations to discover the most appropriate way to speak the clearest truth. Wisdom and innocence best serve the cause of the gospel.

HNewsWire Logo top Menu

Wise and Innocent

Paul borrows the words of Jesus and applies them to a different context. If Jesus calls for a pure witness, Paul’s call leans toward a pure mind. Paul leaves us no simile to unpack and interpret. Knowing that false teachers and their deadly doctrine are close at hand, Christians are “to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil” (Romans 16:19b). J.B. Phillips paraphrases it this way: “I want to see you experts in good, and not even beginners in evil.”

Becoming an expert in truth by studying error is dangerous and wasteful, a backward, perilous approach.

Paul was aware of the temptation to grow so concerned about evil that we develop an obsession with it. We may assume that the best way to guard our faith is to become experts in false doctrine, to study the fine details of error so that truth may stand out. But there are at least two grave problems with this approach. First, we are too weak and evil is too strong for us to immerse ourselves in evil and remain untouched. Our acquaintance with evil can soon become an attraction to evil. Second, defending the truth by studying error is a fool’s errand. God’s truth is profitable, but evil is a useless counterfeit, a perversion of the truth. God’s truth is fixed and unchanging, but evil is always morphing, always adapting to the trends of the age. Becoming an expert in truth by studying error is dangerous and wasteful, a backward, perilous approach.

Paul offers a far safer and far more effective solution. We must focus the best of our attention on what is good and pure and lovely (Philippians 4:8). We must make truth, rather than error, the focus of our studies and the delight of our hearts. We must trust that the foolproof way to identify false doctrine is to become experts in true doctrine. As John MacArthur says, “Don’t study false doctrine, don’t study sin, don’t study error. Stick with the truth and godly obedience.”

Our priority must always be the truth. We defend the Christian faith best when our grasp of sound doctrine is both deep and wide. The believer with great knowledge of truth is equipped to defend against every error.

The Posture of the Christian

When it comes to false teaching, the appropriate posture is acquaintance without obsession. We do well to know of the existence of error and its strategy for infiltrating the church. The shrewd Christian will be familiar with the primary challenges of his day, the most prominent errors, the foremost peddlers of heresy. Yet he will remain innocent by equipping himself with truth, rather than obsessing about the error. As heresies arise, he will respond by increasing his familiarity with God’s Word, trusting that the light of God’s Word will expose the darkness of every error.

We must never allow the study of the error to hinder our pursuit of the truth.

I will grant, of course, that there will be times when it is wise to gain greater familiarity with prominent and pernicious errors—the kind of errors that threaten to “deceive the hearts of the naive” (Romans 16:18). Some believers are specially equipped to study false doctrine so they can refute it with the Word of God. Many of us have benefited from the labor of such men and women. Yet, as Robert Mounce says so well, “God never intended his children to become intimate with evil in order to communicate the gospel to those in its grasp.” We must never allow the study of the error to hinder our pursuit of the truth. Source

Destruction of the World Church

According to prophecy, the apostate World Church (the ecclesiastical Babylon of Rev 17) will suffer sudden and catastrophic destruction. How? Destruction comes from the other end-time Babylon – the commercial and economic Babylon of Rev 18. This final world system, controlled by a humanistic World Government and the powerful ten-horned beast of Rev 13.1 conspires to destroy ecclesiastical Babylon:”And the ten horns … and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her desolate and naked, … and will burn her up with fire” (Rev 17.16)

Why does this happen? A plausible explanation is that the political beast of Rev 13.1-10 is godless and its leader, the end-time world dictator, demands that the world worship him alone (2 Thes 2.4)(Rev 13.8). The end time World Church, although corrupt and ‘Babylonish’, will probably still acknowledge God as supreme above all creation, and so stands in the way of the aspirations of the end-time world ruler.

Dear reader: if you are seeking the true and faithful church, beware of deception. Bible prophecy foresees a powerful but apostate world church and many see this as headed by the Roman Catholic Church. The Protestant Reformers recognized this and came out from Papal control. Today, Jesus calls to the faithful who find themselves in an apostate church: “COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE” (2 Cor 6.17)

John Wesley who said that what we tolerate in our generation, will be embraced by the next. Wesley is 100% correct! We are living in sick times.

HNewsWire- “All political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable.” Just look at some of our modern-day examples: torture is “enhanced interrogation techniques”; murder is “collateral damage”; the aggression initiation of war is a “pre-emptive strike”; the theft of taxpayers’ money is a “bailout”, and the theft of depositors’ money in a bank is a “haircut” or “bail-in”.In a blatant example of Newspeak, the New World Order controllers (through the psychiatric DSM V) have tried to rename pedophiles as “minor-attracted persons” and redefine pedophilia as “sexual orientation”. This makes no sense since sexual orientation has to do with gender, not age, with whether you are attracted to males or females, not how old they are. There are even organizations (like B4UAct.org) which are claiming that pedophiles are being unfairly stigmatized for their feelings!

Justice is a word that stands alone, adding anything to it demeans it….

It is impossible to find anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies and was not hated.

“It is better to be divided by truth than to be united in error. It is better to speak the truth that hurts and then heals, than falsehood that comforts and then kills. Let me tell you something, friend, it is not loved and it is not friendship if we fail to declare the whole counsel of God. It is better to be hated for telling the truth than to be loved for telling a lie. It is impossible to find anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies and was not hated. It’s better to stand alone with the truth, then to be wrong with a multitude. It is better to ultimately succeed with the truth than to temporarily succeed with a lie. There is only one Gospel and Paul said, ‘If any man preaches any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

Proverbs 31:8 (NIV)
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute

People’s hearts are troubled, their minds are in a state of confusion, the Bible tells us a time of great delusion that will come upon the people, that time has arrived, the politicians must come up with more significant and more believable lies in order to bring on the antichrist, we have entered the doorstep Tribulation.

My name is Steve Meyers and I need to share a vision and warning that the Lord showed me back in April 2007….

Many of you will ask why I waited so long to share the warning. I didn’t. I shared the story with everyone that would listen from pastors to friends to family to colleagues. Immediately following the initial vision, I called a close friend. I told him to sit down that I had something to tell him. I needed it documented as I knew this was supernatural and from God. As I witness events unfolding today, I need to share the vision again.

The silencing of the American people before 2020?

“The human heart is an idol factory.”

The Un-Godly — Those That Suppress the Truth, the social media giants built multi-billion dollar empires by giving everyone a voice, but now that they have such a dominant position on the Internet they have decided that many prominent conservative voices should be completely silenced.

Our government has been overthrown. As evidenced by Trump’s capitulation on the border, his recent servitude to the GMO industry and his acquiescence to the warmongers, our President has been compromised. Our liberties are being eliminated one by one. Gun confiscation is next. The Constitution is gasping its last breaths. Our borders are destroyed and our culture has been turned upside down by every perversion known to man.

The prophet does not confuse truth with consensus. The prophet does not confuse God’s word with the word of those who happen to hold power at present, or with the opinion of the majority. This is because powerholders and the majority can fall victim to a lying spirit-and this means a power that actually seizes the majority of experts, the political leadership, and the public.

Everything done in dark will be brought to light, being biblically bankrupt will not exclude the elitist.

Let Me Make This Abundantly Clear. (I Am Apolitical) While I Have a General Distaste for Politicians No Matter the Party They Belong To, I Am Unashamedly Politically a Bible Believing Conservative Christian. I Have a Severe Distrust of Government. I Believe It Is the Most Inefficient and Ineffective Way to Accomplish Most Things. While I Strongly Disagree with Liberals/Progressives and Conservative on Most Political Issues, and While I Believe Liberals/Progressives and Most Politicians Are Terribly Misguided and Naive About What Big Government Will Eventually Result In, I Strive to Not Question Their Motives. at the Same Time, While I Find Myself in Agreement with Conservative Politicians on Some Issues, I Do Not Believe Electing Republicans Is the Answer to Everything. for Me, Very Sadly, the Main Difference Between Republicans and Democrats Is How Quickly They Want to Drive the Car Towards the Cliff. Simply Put, I Do Not Believe the Government Is the Solution for Everything. I Do Not Place Any Faith, Trust, or Hope in Any Politicians to Fix What Is Wrong with the World. “Come Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20) The prophet does not confuse truth with consensus. The prophet does not confuse God’s word with the word of those who happen to hold power at present, or with the opinion of the majority. This is because powerholders and the majority can fall victim to a lying spirit-and this means a power that actually seizes the majority of experts, the political leadership, and the public. HYPER-REPROBATES…
Thanks to people like Pastor Steven Anderson and the choir of preachers he has assembled within the New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist movement there has been a resurgence in what is called the Reprobate Doctrine. A Biblical doctrine that demonstrates in scripture, that God will turn people over to their vile lifestyles as a curse, blinding them to salvation in Jesus, giving them over to a devil’s hell for eternity. A doctrine that I believe is completely Biblical and defined by the Apostle Paul in Romans 1 is unmistakably visceral language.

Great post Stevie Ray! I love your quote from John Wesley. And although I do not agree with his belief in “moral gov’t” theology because it tends toward a belief in salvation by works, he did see some things that have overtaken the church, whether Roman Catholic or evangelical protestant, making her mostly apostate. Here is a quote from him expressing how this apostate church came to be.

Regarding the doctrine of a sinful nature, Charles Finney said, “This doctrine is a stumbling block both to the church and the world, infinitely dishonorable to God, and an abomination alike to God and the human intellect, and should be banished from every pulpit, and from every formula of doctrine, and from the world. It is a relic of heathen philosophy, and was foisted in among the doctrines of Christianity by Augustine, as everyone may know who will take the trouble to examine for himself.”
    And
“The dogma of constitutional moral depravity, is a part and parcel of the doctrine of a necessitated will. It is a branch of a grossly false and heathenish philosophy. How infinitely absurd, dangerous, and unjust, then, to embody it in a standard of Christian doctrine, to give it the place of an indispensable article of faith, and denounce all who will not swallow its absurdities, as heretics. O, shame!”
    And
“We deny that the human constitution is morally depraved, because it is impossible that sin should be a quality of the substance of the soul or body. It is, and must be, a quality of choice or intention, and not of substance. To represent the constitution as sinful, is to represent God, Who is the author of the constitution, as the author of sin. What ground is there for the assertion that Adam’s nature became in itself sinful by the fall? This is groundless, not to say ridiculous, assumption, and an absurdity… The doctrine of original sin, as held by its advocates, must essentially modify the whole system of practical theology. This will be seen as we proceed in our investigations… The taste, relish, or craving, of which this philosophy speaks, is not a taste, relish, or craving for sin, but for certain things and objects, the enjoyment of which is, to a certain extent, and upon certain conditions, lawful. But when the will prefers the gratification of taste or appetite to higher interests, this choice or act of will is sin. The sin never lies in the appetite, but in the will’s consent to unlawful indulgence.”

His wise instruction regarding the Roman Catholic and evangelical protestant belief in moral depravity/original sin/sin nature shows that these groups are really still one and the same. Even though a pretense is made at their being separate. Because this foundational doctrine is at the core of everything they believe about God, Jesus, and the atonement. Which is why Wesley said “The doctrine of original sin, as held by its advocates, must essentially modify the whole system of practical theology.” So they who believe this foundation remain of the same root even though men have been led to believe that the reformation changed that. Which is why Billy Graham once said of his own beliefs that “I’ve found that my beliefs are essentially the same as those of orthodox Roman Catholics. We only differ on some matters of later church tradition”

So there yet remains for the true believer in the Biblical Jesus a need for coming out of her that they be not partaker in her sins and plagues.

    Even so… Maranatha!!

I’m sorry. That was Charles Finney who said these things about sin nature doctrine. Not Wesley. But they still remain true. In agreement with Finney, Wesley said about Augustine from whom these false teachings are derived; “Augustine himself. A wonderful saint! As full of pride, passion, bitterness, censoriousness, and as foul-mouthed to all that contradicted him… When Augustine’s passions were heated, his word is not worth a rush. And here is the secret: St. Augustine was angry at Pelagius: Hence he slandered and abused him, (as his manner was,) without either fear or shame. And St. Augustine was then in the Christian world, what Aristotle was afterwards: There needed no other proof of any assertion, than Ipse dixit: “St. Augustine said it.”

    Even so… Maranatha!!
